Wick... Can you go into detail about multiband compression? Why do wee need it? What is it's practical use?

Absolutely correct, however Cubase always allows post-fader inserts. Previous to version 9 of Cubase, there are 8 inserts slots. the first 6 are pre, the last 2 are post. Since Cubase 9.5, there're 16 inserts slots and a line in between that can be changed between pre and post. For example, it is possible to have 15 pre and 1 post, or 2 pre and 14 post ;)

How does multiband compressor divide frequencies (for example 3-band bass, middle, high)? Like a filter? Or like an EQ? Do frequencies intersect?

a crossover algorithm sends the different bands through to different processing. Kind of like a crossover on a speaker sends different frequencies to the sub and the tweeter.

IM JUST GONNA PUT THIS HERE HOPING YOU READ IT. Hey thanks for this videos I've learn a lot. Something I haven't seen been explained very well is about compressors but not dynamic range or attack etc...I haven't found good info about the different types of compressors like opto, vary mu, fet, all types of comps. And how they could affect your mix. I would like to see a good video and I like the way you explain everything. So please! LOL

hmmm I normally put EQ before the compressor cause i figured I wanted to compress the EQ signal. Maybe I should try it this way.

+Harrysound I do both. However, I only put EQ cutting before the compressor as I don't want to send unwanted info into the compressor to have it kick in at the wrong time. Conversely, I put EQ boosting after the compressor as I don't want the compressor to squish those frequencies. Think of overheads for drums, most people use it only for cymbals and toms/snare, so you cut out the bass drum frequencies (and any other ugly ones) before the compressor so they don't affect the compression and boost the ones you want after the compressor. Give it a try :)

+Harrysound On many smaller mixers the EQ can be hard-wired after the insert point. However the way you patch those processors will have an influence on the way they behave, and the way it will sound.
