Is Animorphs Any Good? | Reading Books I Missed Out On #2

There were a lot of books I missed out on when I was a kid because my mom wouldn't let me read them. So now I'm going back and reading them to see if I was really missing out or if they should have stayed buried in my past.
Once again, thanks to @PageswithPaige for reminding me that I'd wanted to read this series way back when.

GODDDD Tobias. The most TRAGIC character ever to hit children's fiction, lol. I loved these books as a kid but I mostly read the Marco ones because he was funny, but as an adult I've been re-reading the books and dear GOD do they handle some heavy shit sometimes. Awesome video.

My library system didn't have all of them so it wasn't until I spent 3 years of my adult life painfully tracking down and buying every book in the series to finally read it start to finish. I cried hard when I finally finished the series. People can hate on the series but I will always love it (and the semi-okay TV show on OG Nickelodeon ah Shawn Ashmore but I digress. 😂).

I'm currently filming my reread of these! Those newer covers with the lenticular images on them were an attempt to modernize and rerelease the series, so some references were changed (Marco called Rachel Storm from X-men instead of Xena Warrior Princess kind of thing) and it flopped, just in case you come across inconsistencies and are confused. If you're familiar at all with Applegate's husband Michael Grant (he wrote the also very popular Gone series), he was also a part of writing Animorphs. I hope you decide to continue reading them!! I've had an unhealthy attachment to these books since i was 9 😂😂

I've heard some good things about the rest of the series, so I hope to continue eventually. Why is it that so often the newer covers for books are worse 😅 the OG covers were so iconic...

@@TheWordN3rd I love seeing people experience these for the first time and enjoy them. The new covers suuuck lmao, the UK covers from the original run are pretty gross too. The Vietnamese translations had the best covers I think. The series gets a little iffy around the middle where it's heavily ghost written but over all is really solid, and the standalone novels that go with the series are excellent.

I used to love visiting my grandma and wanting to sleep at her house because she had a Super Nintendo and I wanted to play Mario and Donkey Kong Country. Good 90’s memories haha ♥️ I don’t think I’ve ever read an animmorph book but I remember the covers vividly as a kid, iconic

The show is absolutely not for a more grown up audience than the books. The books take their audience seriously, and introduces a lot of adult themes and ideas (along with some really goofy ideas but you take the good with the bad) while the show hardly lets Rachel and Cassie be in the same room with each other...

Whoa, it's just an opinion based on my observations of the casting and character choices. Struck me as a very 90s CW teen show. Those tend to be aimed at older audiences and that doesn't negate the fact that the books take their audience much more seriously. I state as much a little later when I'm talking about the way Applegate introduces the concepts of the series and the way she explores the kids' motivations. The show is clearly trying to make a quick buck vs the books actually trying to make content for kids.
