Wouldn't it be nice if we could turn back time? Well today we're doing just that with the pinnacle movie of the 80s. It's Back To The Future's 1985 classic! Praised by most to be untouchable to the likes of reboots since it's just too good as it is... But is it the PERFECT film? How did it success as well as it did, how did it shape our pop culture and set forth the trope of nostalgia decades beforehand?

...Of course, time continues onward. And though the deep-fake is likely to be long forgotten, the legacy of Back To The Future remains. And it's a great binge watch considering these dire times!

People here are acting like the sequels are bad lol. Back to the Future is one of the most solid trilogies around. The worst it gets is good. A movie doesn't have to be the same caliber of cinematic Masterpiece to be a good sequel.

But Marty does have a flaw in the first film. A lack of confidence in his musical abilities as shown in the film when he was rejected by Huey Lewis and was afraid to turn his tape into the record company. Plus Marty is almost never on time because his mind isn’t in the right place. Marty is able to overcome this flaw throughout the film by installing the confidence in George to ask Lorraine to the dance. After seeing George overcome his doubts Marty is able to perform Johnny B. Good in front of everyone on stage without the fear of being rejected

I think the reason why the third film was so out of place is because I'm pretty sure it was based on Michael J. Fox. In the making of bonus features on the DVD they show clips from an interview that happened around the time the first film came out asking the actors when they would go if they had a time machine. He said that he would love to go to the old west because when he was a kid he dreamed about being a cowboy or something similar. Either way, it is still a fun film and works well message wise with the rest of the trilogy and it expands the message well.

If someone tried to reboot it, I think we’d see some real pushback from fans..

Marty's flaw is somewhat similar to George's. He fears rejection. Remember the scene where he auditions his band? Remember the ensuing conversation with his girlfriend? George has a similar problem. It's mainly used as a way to draw a parallel between the two. But it's there.

In my opinion, Back To The Future is the most consistent movie trilogy (at least in terms of quality). Also, it breaks one of the key rules of trilogies by doing essentially the same plot in all three films, and yet it works.

I think Back To The Future is one of the greatest and most consistent movie trilogies ever, but Lord Of The Rings is simply the greatest movie trilogy of all time. 3 truly perfect movies in every single way
@Mr.Goodkat
@Mr.Goodkat 2 жыл бұрын
@@icemav5740 Lord of the rings lacks soul, heart and spirit, it's dull and boring, too many of the main cast are regulated to comic relief (Merry, Pippin, Gimli) or they're underdeveloped like Legolas that's too many in the fellowship already lacking a personality in a 10 hour + trilogy there should be little excuse for that, there's countless films which assemble teams with more personality than that in under 90 minutes. The battles are lifeless like Helms Deep isn't something the audience has been given sufficient reason to care about (only introduced to it recently in story and don't really know the people at risk) some Elf dies which nobody cares about and it's played like this big deal. Return of the King is much stronger than the other two so it is an inconsistent trilogy in quality and even that film itself is inconsistent as the frodo, sam, gollum storyline takes the thunder away from the other plotlines by being much better resulting in a deflating feeling when it cuts away from them and a feeling of wanting it to go back when it's with the other's. The trilogy has flaws all over it.

The supreme metric by which art should be judged is simply this: Does it achieve what it aspires to be? You can apply that to almost anything in life - a car, a meal, a person. Some stuff simply won't be *for you*, and that's ok. BTTF - All three of them - achieve what they aspire to be. You may not like where the mark was, but they hit bullseye every time. They are all fun, wacky, and over the top, and they manage it without beating you over the scrotum with some shoehorned message. They're just stories about a kid and a scientist travelling through time. That's it. They're clever and silly and just plain entertaining. No ulterior motive. Just pure cinema that knows what it is and owns it the entire time.

Back to the Future is something different, special, cute, witty, and a one-of-a-kind story. We don't see movies like this very often. I wouldn't say Marty is a perfect character in the film. His band isn't finding success in 1985 and can't even get a gig at his school, so he lacks confidence about his prospects for a musical future. But Marty later manages to fulfill his dream by playing the Enchantment Under the Sea dance and turning on the whole school to the sound of rock 'n roll. When Principal Strickland tells him "No McFly has ever amounted to anything in the history of Hill Valley," Marty took it personally. By helping his father become a successful writer, and by helping his family to truly love each other, Marty succeeds in beating what history had fated his family. The McFlys went from being losers to winners in life. 09:36 You said "the trope of falling in love with someone you nurse." Huh-huh.

The major reason this classic trilogy has and never will be rebooted is that much like Calvin and Hobbes not getting merchandise because it's creator Bill Watterson has fought 🦷 and nail for it over his dead body, BTTF won't get a reboot over Robert Zimekmecas' and Bob Gale's dead bodies. They're totally open to the idea of another sequel to BTTF The Game though as that story still needs to be continued and completed. "I like Part 3 BTW it's a great film on its own right and a great way to end the trilogy. It only gets hated on because the previous 2 films are just that good; It just makes 3 look bad in comparison."

Yknow, the way this story is set up with simple characters and a relatively simple plot despite the details, it almost works like a parable in movie form. Also, this story fully understands and embraces the consequences of its plot. Going back in time could cause you to accidentally prevent your birth in the future - a pretty scary concept, but this movie doesn’t back down at all from it. Your actions could also greatly change the future, including the people you know and are related to - it doesn’t shy away from that either. In later movies it doesn’t even shy away from the BAD futures this can cause. It’s pretty blunt about everything while still being fun, and that’s pretty refreshing.

I was 9 and BTTF replace my favorite movie when I saw it in the theater with my family on a summer vacation. My previous favorite was Karate Kid which came out a year before. I don’t know if Marty’s flaw is so much of a flaw but something we all relate to. He sees his dad has a very weak and insecure person and there are subtle ways the film shows his own fear that he will follow his dad‘s destiny. I guess that makes Marty a vulnerable and relatable character.

I totally agree with this video, buut there's 1 thing that stops it from being 'timeless' that you failed to mention. The fact that George is a peeping tom who stalks the girl he eventually marries was played off as a light-hearted joke back in the 80s, but it's pretty creepy for today's standards.

That's not a mistake on the movie's part, that is the fault of how culture is changing. It's the same as critizing Toy Story's animation by today's standards, that's not fair.

That shouldn't stop it from being timeless, though. Comedy changes over time. Unless they have a delorean time machine, it's impossible to see how comedy and the public's view on something may change over the next couple decades. I wouldn't really call it a flaw in the movie.

Back to the Future holds a special place in my heart among popular classic big-screen movies, because it does not base its casting process on looking for the most popular movie actors of its time, and probably makes for a much more relatable movie by casting people who were more known for TV acting and they could bring their talents from a comedy series to a comedy movie. Back to the Future definitely sold a lot of tickets to 1980s viewers who liked watching Frances Lee McCain in Apple's Way, Christopher Lloyd in Taxi, George DiCenzo in McClain's Law, Wendie Jo Sperber in Bosom Buddies and Michael J. Fox in Family Ties. It also started a pattern that broke barriers between movie acting and television acting in 1985, because Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, James Tolkan, Elijah Wood (Part 2) and Mary Steenburgen (Part 3) all started out as movie actors before this, who were open to long-term television roles later in their acting careers, just like Michael, Christopher, Wendie, Frances Lee and George before them. This is how Back to the Future taught me there is no difference between movie acting and television acting as long as you can make a longer time commitment for television. November 24, 2022, 11:48pm

My answer to that question would be yes. Back to the Future has been one of my favorite films since I was a teenager in 1997. Edit: Just realized I'm closer to your mom's age than yours. I was five when the first one came out. The romance is my least favorite part. I liked the third one when it came out. Think I was ten then. I saw the film with my dad in the theater.

Back to the Future 2 is the Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy. It got unapologetically dark and you really felt the stakes were raised. It really warns us that time travel may be cool, but meddling with time can have horrible consequences. The third movie was all done in good fun and it wrapped everything up perfectly. I say Back to the Future is one of the best film trilogies ever.

The answer to the question is, resoundingly, "YES!" It's about as tight as a script can get, and the only other films to match it are those that have gone through many, many, MANY script versions and re-writes to arrive there. Even though "Back to the Future" was, is and always will be my favorite film, I'd still argue that it is A perfect film but that there are many others that one can call A perfect film as well. Just too many dang good movies have been made that are written, produced, shot and edited to perfection. And I think that that's why movies are often incredible and offer the power for a person / people to immortally change the world, existing well beyond the lives of the creator(s) him / her / themselves! :-)

My idea for a Backtothefuture sequel trilogy is as follows: It is fourty years since the events in the three movies. DocBrown's house have been abadonned for fourty years and is in a shabby state.Three youths who live nearby goes there to clean up the place and make it ready for a sale. While they are cleaning the house they find the scematics for the delorean and how the fluxcapasator makes timetravels possible. They also find a video which shows one of the youths mother(possible Jennifer Parker)and she looks totally different than she looks today. the youths also sees DocBrown holding a newspaper where Biff has the Grey's sport allmanac in his pocket from 1955. They decide to build a new Delorean from DocBrown's scematics. When they are finnished they decide to bring the Grey's sport allmanac(which is in common sale in 2022) with them. They goes back to 1955 and knows allready that MartyMcFly detained JenniferParkers father when he took the caseboard apart in the first movie to use it as a regular board.The youths prevent this from happening by giving MartyMcFly another board to stand on while flying away from Biff. They also gives their fathers the Grey's sport allmanac. When they comes home they all live in wealth and luxury and JenniferParker looks like she looked in the first movie(played by ClaudiaWells or a lookalike)and it gives a happy ending to the first movie xD In the second movie three neighbours to the first movies aganoists who are envious discover videos that show everything was different just a few days ago.They start stalking the three youths and finds out about the Delorean timemachine.They also finds out about the Grey's sport allmanac.They decide to steal both the delorean and bring with them the Grey's sport allmanac.In 1955 they gives the Grey's sport allmanac to their grandparents.They then goes home to a life in wealth and luxury. In the third and last movie,our three antagonists suddenly wakes up and see everything has changed around them.They see the three neighbour youth now living in wealth and luxury and suspect that they has stolen the delorean and gone back to 1955. They decide to go back themselves and change the events that the three neighbours have caused. But there they meet a young DocBrown that warns them about making any more changes.He tells them he was contacted by his future selves and that he told him to warn eventual other timetravellers.

First off, we all know what happened in the original timeline; George falls from the tree and gets hit by the car, Lorraine falls in love with him and they go to the dance together so I don't understand what you mean by "wonder what happened when Marty wasn't around" 🤔 Secondly, if you asked me about the theme music for this movie I would think/say Alan Silvestri's instrumental score, not the 2 Huey Lewis songs because we hear them both exactly once whereas Silvestri's score supports the storyline all through the movie. Even if they were made for this movie, Power of Love for me is just a pop song that IS tied to this film, but is still a pop song that you'll hear on nostalgic radio stations.

I was around when the first BTTF film was released, but not old enough to appreciate it yet (I was 3). Fortunately, my parents were also great fans of the films, and I discovered them shortly after Part 3 was released. They remain one of my favorite film trilogies of all time, along with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the original version of the original Star Wars trilogy. I saw them out of order, though, first 3, then 1, and finally 2. Also, I wouldn't describe Marty in Part 1 as having no flaws. He was insecure and afraid of rejection during the first act of the film. His flaws just weren't cheesy and over-the-top like his vulnerability to being called "chicken" (or, in Part 3, its 1885 equivalent, "yellow") in the sequels.

You are totally wrong. He has the same flaws as his father. He is afraid of failure. It's crazy how many people miss his character arc. He tells his g/f her couldn't handle the rejection of the battle of the bands or whatever. He sees that is what has held his father back in the past and has a moment where he is rocking out to the 50s kids at the end overcoming that fear.

The best timetravel movie of all time and a timeless classic. The direction, casting, score, script and acting are all super-b. What I like particular is that the timeline is played out very accurate and subtle changes in the future are shown because of marty's trip to the past. There are however some bootatrap paradoxes in the movie. I love it.

Marty does have a flaw. It's something reflected in George and Him, When in 1985 he says "I cant take that kinda rejection." And in 1955 George says that too "I cant take that kinda rejection." And in the end he plays his rock music in 1955 Inventing rock and roll, It was a small arc but it is noticable.
