I was shocked when you covered up the leafy details. Those were one of the best things about it. I understand the modernization but I wish you kept the ornate touches and then modernized it with paint colors. But we all have our own style! The darker pieces you have painted have been my favorites. Especially anything French Provincial. ❤😊

@@amber_Forever16 Hi Amber, just wanted to reach out to let you know that the furniture is not an antique. An antique is over 100 years old and that style is from the mid-1980s. The design would work for someone who loved the cottage look. The wood is knotty pine.

@@ginenelafontaine8343 You're right. I looked at the set and said, that's the same PINE set that I have at my mountain house. It's not "antique" but certainly an 80's set and the condition is great because it's quality. I wished that someone could have reached out to Lauren and let her know more about the set before she started with all of the sanding and staining. You need to know your woods and how to "restore" them.

What trials? what tribulations? she sands off the old finish , then slaps on a primer and paint and sells it. there's nothing hard about what is being done here. there's no major repair work needed, she buying furniture that doesn't require any repair work. and if it does she bondo's or uses woodputty to fix the issue which is not a long term fix. infact it's no fix at all.

I have been doing a lot of pieces in a paint wash with Algonquin and then going over them with a light coat of aged oak gel stain. It has really made a difference in how fast my natural wood pieces sell. It adds the perfect amount of warmth to the wood instead of the more stark look of just a paint wash. I also use matte black hardware with my wood pieces and that makes a difference too with the contrast.
@jillosiecki3049

My mother had furniture from the 50’s that had a light paint wash that were then stained over that. This was called “blonde” finish, even when it was used with dark stains like walnut. The grain was filled with the paint, and then the stain went over the surface, and you would see those little flecks of paint through the stain. So the “blonde” finish from the 50’s could actually be dark colors. My mother had a bedroom set with a “blonde” finish on walnut wood, with walnut stain.

Well it didn't sell and I think she shouldn't have covered them, I wonder if she can pull the boards off, and some black matte knobs would be better but imo I would've put pull handles instead of knobs, imagine the drawers heavy, full of jeans and then having to pull on the little knobs to open it, it doesn't seem right, it's solid wood so they're already heavy. That might be why they aren't selling

We were able to visit their showroom in High Point, North Carolina and chose a oak bedroom set from this brand name, it’s probably at least 30 old by now. It still looks brand new. It has a four poster bed, night stand, chest of drawers and and armoire. It’s so much cheaper than actual wood bleach sets. I use it mostly on red oak furniture. It works wonders. I like white oak furniture look instead of red/orange undertones. Just try it. Yes that wood is pine because of the knots in it. When I stripped paint off of trim in a house I owned I had to condition the pine wood with something (I can’t remember what it is right now) so the wood would accept the stain. If I didn’t do that, the stain would blotch like your wash did. The bleach and vinegar neutralizer accomplished the same thing it looks like. Anyway I agree with the others about the black hardware.

I'm not a fan of beige furniture. It reminds me too much of the 80's. I remember beige laminate furniture with tropical upholstered sofas...Miami Vice! lol But everyone has different likes. I'm sure it will sell, you are very good at refinishing!

You’ve never heard of Kincaid furniture co? It’s pretty well known at least in the East.

What king of bleach did you use. I've bleached some pieces in the past and just used regular old bleach. Look nice but I agree darker knobs would make the blonde wood stand out a lot more.
