Oh my gosh, you have no idea what you started...you inspired me to pick up 2 peices of furniture a few weeks ago and started cleaning and sanding today after work. While I was in my garage my neighbor came over and said he had some furniture in his garage and asked if I wanted it. I mow have 7 peices of nice furniture that I am going to try to meet the 4 Ps on.

Couple points. 1. The cabinet and furniture paint is latex based. As are most of their paints at Lowes, except Rustoleum. 2. Most of the primers are also latex as well. 3. You can use latex paint on furniture. Just make sure you add a topcoat. The spray one made by Krylon is quite excellent. 4. Most people are not going to want to clean their brushes with chemicals because they use oil based. Use latex and wash with soap and water. Side note: most people aren't going to dispose of the paint properly so probably only buy what you need. 5. Buy the mistint samples and use those for small pieces of furniture. Also pick up some plain white or black and you can make your own custom neutral paint for a fraction of the cost. 6. If you prime, there's no need to sand. It's an unnecessary step if you're not refinishing actual wood. 7. Chalk paint will stick beautifully you any piece. No sanding or priming required. For anyone in the comments reading this, I just to work for Lowes and am a paint expert so it's good information. Hope this helps.

I appreciate the pointers you've given. I myself am a carpenter, one thing I have learned in my many years in the trade is when painting over glossy finishes like faux wood pieces (think the old wall paneling), the newer fancy paints that don't require primer or limited surface prep are expensive. One option to lower cost is to hit the piece with a rough grit sand paper, wipe with tack cloth, coat with an OIL BASED primer using foam roller, two coats if needed (sand between coats), wipe with tack cloth again, paint with latex paint of your choice, apply several light coats of polycrilic to complete. Although the new chalky finish type paints are convenient they are certainly a profit eater and may be a barrier of entry to some new flippers. I have used the above process to refinish everything from kitchen and bathroom cabinets, countertops, paneling walls, furniture pieces, and more. Use the inexpensive brushes and foam rollers for the primer coats and dispose of properly after each project and get the quality brushes and rollers for the latex and polycrilic applications and wash after each use. The oil based primer forms a hard shell over the glossy finish of the faux wood which allows your latex to adhere to the piece just like it was meant to be used.

🤯👏Lauren... This has to be one of the BEST videos on painting/flipping furniture on KZbin. Straightforward, simple, thorough, reassuring, informative. I have watched approximately 10k hours (an exaggeration, but not by much) of painting and furniture flip videos over the span of a few YEARS. YEARS. I’ve yet to pull the trigger and actually paint something. Anything... other than my toenails. I freeze at the last minute. Was planning, for the umpteenth thousandth time, a trip to Lowe’s today. Started second guessing myself AGAIN. Overwhelmed with my product list, the steps, the paint, and everything else. What if’s. There are just so many do’s and don’t, products, conflicting reviews, etc etc etc. Just when I think I’ve mustered up the courage, I panic and run to the computer to do “more research”. THIS IS HOW I STUMBLED UPON your channel today. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I am going for it! THANK YOU!!!! (The hilarious (hmm... maybe concerning) part? This is for my OWN furniture! 😂 I have so many pieces I have wanted to do for several years.)

You’re a great teacher. I’ve been playing with furniture for last 7 years, and I have a blast with it. One suggestion: A weeny roller with a high density foam for smooth look, is great time saver, and you’ll avoid brush strokes. Otherwise, I would have suggested a high quality brush, and then linked something on how to properly clean it, as they can last you years when taken care of. I’ve used the Valspar furniture paint, I believe it is an Enamel. So like latex, it’s totally fine to use on furniture, and actually holds up better than chalk or milk paints. In the long run. IMO, but we all have our preferences. I wish I had the teacher mentality, you possess. You explain things well. Keep up the great work!!

I think you need to up your calculations. Your work time must be factored in, which will definitely bring you to charge more for your end product. A business person explained this to me when I was undercharging for my end game sale price. You need to “Pay Yourself”. Your time multiplied by pay per hour must be added. Then you add the profit margin you want, though most double the number of all costs and pay. This is still an awesome deal, given it becomes a wholesale price that you are selling outright. You can get your loans payed off much faster by paying yourself too. Yes, you enjoy your projects, but please ensure you sell your worth. I was so grateful when someone shared this tip with me, as it helped me when I too had college related bills. Soooo hooked on your projects. Thanks for sharing.

New flipper here and wanted to say I really appreciate how informative and comprehensive your videos are. I know they will be super helpful for my venture into the world of flipping furniture being a success. If I may make a video request??😊 Could you possibly make one on how to best identify a piece as a good potential flip? For example, certain styles that sell best, how much is too much to spend on a piece and whether to paint or refinish certain pieces, along with any other important criteria I have yet to consider. And if that video already exists. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction to finding it. Thanks so much for your consideration!!

Another great video ♡ something I do after opening the paint,I hammer the tip of a nail to make holes so after pouring paint it won't pool in the rim. It'll drip back into the can through the nail holes. It helps paint not splattering when you hit the lid back down when you're don't too. You did an awesome job on these!♡

I'm binging your videos! I'm so inspired to pick this side hustle up to help find some home improvements in our single income household. Our three kids have been hard on our house, and it's time for some improvements. When I look around I get so overwhelmed at all the projects we need to pay for. But I think if I can start flipping furniture, and teaching my kids about being business owners, as I homeschool them, it will be a huge win win for my family! Thank you so much for your free content. Hopefully I can work my way up to joining a masterclass, or your patreon 🎉🎉. Thanks again for inspiring me!

Thank you so much for talking about primers and how important they are. So many people just jump in with the paint and I feel so bad for the people who are following along and run into major problems down the road.

I realize this is an older video, however, I did want to comment on your use of the miss tint paint. I have brought paint from the lowes in my area, Hampton Virginia. I always have to have the price checked at the check out line. The paint is also sometimes brought back by the customer. This is always my go to for paint. I am seriously thinking about starting to flip furniture. I've been painting and resurfacing counter tops, cabinets and furniture for a long time. Thank you for your inspiration. Also, I am inspired by this video to start with a small car. Small peices. I love what you said about having a small car is not an excuse to not give it all. Thanks. Suzanne Evans Virginia

Thank you so much for this video. Wish I saw it 1st a few days ago to save money lol but those materials I bought definitely won't go to waste...I just bought a quart of satin primer paint that costs about $30 for $2 and a gal for $9! 🎉❤ Going to play your video on repeat until I master the 4ps. Thanks again!

I don't know if anyone said anything about this specifically, but the cabinet/furniture paint is latex. It is just an oil enriched enamel. Which is why you can clean it up with water and soap, rather than needing mineral spirits. It can be deceiving for people seeing the enamel part at times, just like it can be deceiving seeing a "paint & primer" and thinking it actually replaces where we need primers. Cool vid 🤘

If you have stains on the top from the water stains, you can paint with bleach after you sanded it. Then rinse with warm water .. then you can wax it or stain it. So the top can have a stain.. the bleach makes it brand new..

I haven't seen much information about cleaning and sealing the inside of the furniture. I would be the most concerned about that when flipping as it is where everyone's stuff has lived and would love to see content about it!

Very nice. I have 2 pieces of French Provincial laminate. I have a coat of primer on one but stopped. I bought a quart of JoAnna Gaines latex paint and have just heard such varying comments- yes you can use latex and no you can’t. I did the skuff , 1 coat primer and plan to do another then 2 coats latex paint then a polyurethane topcoat. I want to keep the first 2 pieces, unless they turn out perfect and then start some flipping. I’m glad that the trend has swung to neutral colors as I think the wild colors are just too style specific. Imitating high end store pieces offers the opportunity to buy inexpensive pieces that look more high end. Thank you for this great tutorial.
