Well done in your explanation. I am one of those who loves to work alone. I am not out to make millions but to make ends meet. I love to work hard for myself and being outdoors is wonderful. You go from corporate air conditioning and knowing your paycheck is waiting on you to hands dirty, sweating and hoping you make enough to pay your bills. Only some can manage to make such a change. God bless

Gave up a successful corporate role last year and started a very small home business. I will never match the money I made but I have had more joy, pride and satisfaction in my achievements in the last year than I did in my whole corporate career.

Great advice Georgie, I’m self employed (unrelated to flowers) and completely agree. People often forget about all the other important tasks that take time (or you need to pay someone to do) and need to be done such as accounts, marketing inc social media, IT etc

they do forget - and while I wouldn't work any other way, there is more to think about than whether you can create a thing and sell it at a profit.

Thank you for the input. I’m starting a garlic seed farm and I am taking all your advice to heart. I’ve never had a normal job, and I’ve been self employed for over 20 years.

I think it’s so important to think about how much each task is worth, when considering employing anyone else. When you take someone on, even at minimum wage you have much more than minimum wage to pay; tax, NI is only the start. You may have to put H&S in place, all sorts of notices, admin and paperwork. You may need to think about payroll company and contracts and holiday/sick pay. I’ve been in that position and have never been able to make a role worth the cost. Contractors or having self employed folk can be a way around it, but there’s still legislation involved. Keeping it small is the name of the game as far as I can see, if your plans include expansion let alone world domination you have to (at some point) work out how to push through that pain barrier of your first employee. I’d be interested to know what the initial set up costs were. Or what it could be done for on a small plot. What’s the smallest scale it could be done on, is a back garden or one field enough? Thanks for all the content, I hope the weather clears for you there. We had rain this afternoon that has gone a long way to clear the snow, but it will be an ice rink tomorrow!

all true - I have had employees before and enjoyed the chat but you do have to scale your business much more in order to pay for the help and I found I was dragged further and further from the fun stuff and into admin which I'm no big fan of. The challenge is to work out how to make enough without losing sight of why you started the business in the first place. x

Well the man who wants to grow flowers should put tarps on his potential beds Now. NHS was started as an off shoot from Swindon railways in 1848ish? Hospitals were started by Christians in C13 and child birth care was only introduced late 40s. Medicine is a Vocation not a job. You do work hard, but fed up w. rain and my seedlings have bolted, and I now understand you take small shoots from dahlia tubers and planting them separately and dipping in rooting pdr. Yes Patience etc. I noted how contented rose growers were at Chelsea. Yes floristry keeps you sane! International women. (A lot of men yielded their lives to hold the territory!!!....and it was Purim, Esther had divine wisdom. ) I realised you had done loads of research. It's on going...BUT you need good weather.

There is no such thing as an easy job all jobs have there ups and downs And as a business lecturer once said there is no such thing as working for yourself the customer employees everyone no customers no money no jobs Working for someone else at least you know what's in your account every week Self employed your the very last line on the payment line to be paid They are 3 types of employment Self employed A person who like to develop a business but not own it A person who likes to work in a business with out any of the challenges or headaches And what's more you can work and own a business at the same time The worst I see for the self employed is the lack or respect for what they do and there produce self employment can also be a lonely place It not how easy or how much it's do you like it or love ❤️ it are you good at it It's the old story of town mouse country mouse

I have only started your video but frankly, if you can, working for yourself has to be better than being a 'wage slave' particularly if you are trapped in one of the current 'politically correct' work places. NB Even though it wasn't the best financial thing I ever did, I retired a year early due to the horrid HR environment. If someone offered me a million to go back in to today's workplace my answer would be a resounding No!!!!!
@theflowerfarmer

I totally agree - but it was the word 'easier' in the question that got me. Working for oneself is never easy, or even easier, but it's certainly more interesting, challenging, creative... and to do a thing because ONE thinks it's a good idea... well that's got to make all the long hours worth it don't you think?
