My favorite musical moment of 2023 was hearing that I had won a symphony audition on bassoon after having to play with the flu. It was so relieving to know that my hard work and preparation had paid off and my audition wasn't completely ruined by being sick and I love getting to play with my orchestra!

My main gig is composing for TV and film, however, I have been a pianist, session singer (voice was my instrument in college) and now started on flute! My sight readers, breathe! The best advice I can give is read as much in as many different styles as you can. Spend sometime each practice session and read in different styles, (Think of rhythm as your most important friend, then pitch, then dynamics.) Sight reading is really about recognizing patterns, and intervals. So thats why its so good to do it while you practice scales, arpeggios and ear training! Best advice for the audition is do not stop. Mistakes, who cares, just keep swimming. You will impress the room more if you play confidently with the right rhythms and a beautiful tone! Good luck ❤

My favourite musical moment of '23 was a concert that I went to in June. I hadn't been to any concerts since '18, and I was starved for live classical music. My first violin teacher, a woman named Lynn who's now a dear friend, was the concertmaster, and we hadn't seen each other since '15. That concert filled me up in the way that only a concert can. I cried so much, just from the joy of hearing and seeing music being played live--even some of Lynn's solos made me cry, the first time her playing has moved me to tears at an in-person concert. We've known each other for twenty-seven years: it was worth the wait. Seeing her play always gives me joy. After the concert, we had a wonderful visit, and oh, that first hug! Lynn gives amazing hugs, it felt so good to have no distance between us (she lives about two hours from my place) and neither of us was in any rush to let go: it was one of the longest hugs of my life.

I had very different musical moments in the past year. One was performing Anatevka in a very little geoup as the only flute. It was the first time, I have gotten money for a performance. This was fun. Another very intense moment was playing on a funeral, we were more than 35 musicians and all of us mourned, playing in this condition war really difficult but very emotional and we felt very connected during playing.

Loved these videos - please keep em coming, it doesn't haven to just be about xmas, does it? :D Also, would love, love, love to see a video on sight reading - I have a mediocre level of sight reading I've achieved and I can't seem to get better at it, I especially struggle with the third octave (I'm a beginner). Any help in that are would be very welcome! Also, I've always felt the same way about Beethoven. Possibly not quite as obsessed as you were but bordering on that :)
