Yeah, this is another classic Genesis game, that has been ignored by the bias bullshit Snes-empire here on the internet. Along with the Shining Force games (and many others), they are gems like this one that apparently no one knows about, and receive very little attention. Luckily Snesdrunk is no fanboy, he clearly loves the Super Nintendo, but he still gives its rival its deserved due. Virtually none of the big gaming channels give the Genesis any of the love it rightfully deserves. And are pitifully ignorant when it comes to its hardware prowess. In other words, if it's not Sonic, then assume no one's heard of it.
@markdavies81107 жыл бұрын
Totally agree the Nintendo and SNES bias that still exists even today is ridiculous. The Genesis had one of the greatest back catalogues of any console but gaming sites don't acknowledge it. Ther's a lot of overlooked/underrated gems on the Genesis; If you like arcade adventures like this then Crusader of the Centy (also known as Soleil) is another you should look up.
@retrosoul87707 жыл бұрын
Downright genre bias, Nintendo bias from the influence and success of the NES and Sega's 90's failures and eventual fallout are huge reasons why^^. American's have a pre-condition to embrace anything that resembles "freedom and exploration", because of our history (fighting to become an independent nation and venturing westward exploring territory etc). Hence why the tedious (imho) open world genre is so widely acclaimed and overdone today, while shmups have always been pretty much dead in the west no matter their quality level (TFIV) but flourish in the east, and why the word "linear" has become an evil word for video games. This kind of game is exactly what the Snes did with Super M, LTTP, SMW, Earthbound, FFVI etc, slow-paced non-arcade style adventures. Nothing is wrong with this or these classic games, just stating facts. The Gen however, generally does the opposite, delivering a more hardcore, challenging, faster paced and sometimes a more technical arcade oriented experience (Alien Soldier, Shinobi 3 examples). The bias exists because Americans regard open world/rpg games as "superior" to arcade classics. So LTTP is "better" by default than a beat em up classic like SOR2 just because it's an open world game...and that logic is utter garbage. Both games are masterpieces in their respective genres but the "linear" arcade game will never be considered as good to mainstream eyes. We just can't accept the subjective gap between rpg-type gamers and arcade gamers, we're different breeds, I could never play through LTTP/SM again without experiencing significant boredom (beat them 3 times each) but I've beaten SOR2 40+ times with or without friends and counting...its fighting system is timelessly enjoyable and fantastic. It can't be denied though, that Sega no longer existing as a respected console manufacturer has alot to do with the ignored reception of the Genesis; as the decisions they made during the 90's damaged the brand and reputation forever, and today the Genesis is suffering the most from it. It's really unfortunate (sry for long post)

@@miamimagicians Absolutely some Genesis games have an advantage of later release dates or bigger rom sizes compared to their SNES counterparts, but that generally is a SNES advantage being released later and supported another 1-2 years after Genesis. Bloodlines and Hardcorps fall into that category aswell released 2-3 years after their SNES counterparts (Castlevania IV and Contra III) and to me are better games. Bloodlines despite being released about 3 years after Castlevania IV was still only allocated the same 8-Mb rom as it's counterpart. So it didn't have any memory advantage.

This game is fantastic. Another "ignored" game on the Genesis. When I was digging through the Genesis library (since 3/2016), I hoped that the Genesis had at least *one* great top down adventure style game to compete on some level against the Snes. Very happy to see that desire met in this great game. I demoed it via emulation and buying an authentic cart whenever I can to finish the game, I stopped half way because I want the satisfaction of finishing it on my Model 1. Great review Snesdrunk!
