17:18 I feel like the advantage of OLED is not the colour, but when you're in complete darkness. When I tried switching from my Vive Pro 1 (AMOLED) to the Vive Pro 2 (LCD), I instantly noticed how everything looked like a grey mist instead of actually being dark. The bump in resolution was nice, but I couldn't stand constantly having a lit monitor on my face. For many people, it doesn't seem so important though, seeing that a majority of headsets are LCD nowadays. But for me, it was important enough that I kept using the Vive Pro 1 for a very long time, until I made the switch to the Beyond (because of the bumped resolution, and also because I knew for a thing that as I grow up, I won't be capable from wearing the Vive Pro 1 weight on my head anymore).

You nailed it with this. I did some night flying and some super dark scene things and it’s really black. Like really really black. So black that there was a “wow” moment. But this is such a small amount of the VR I play I think it still matters less to me than the form factor.

@@SpookeyClown It'll be nice if it becomes a standard for VR lenses. It's not a deal breaker or maker by any means, because it only seems to pay off in dark scenes, but it just seems like a technology that is super readily available and should be included in tech at this price point.

So...I've had pretty much every VR headset since the Oculus DK1 in 2013 and what I can honestly say is: if you play a lot in VR, get a Bigscreen Beyond. It's really that simple because it looks great, is super comfortable, and just works. I haven't hardly touched my Pimax Crystal since, though I will say that it's still worth having a Quest 3 for travel or showing off VR to friends. Ther's nothing to be on the fence with here, it really is that good.

I actually started watching the video. 2:55 There's a 3D printed soft strap mode you could get which improves the fit of the top strap. You could wear it in halo mode so the top strap is what holds your headset on your forehead, which I read reduce pressure from the gasket on your face.

when i first got my bsb a few months ago i hated it because the stock strap wasn't working for me. luckily i decided to buy the new headstrap as it just released so i just had to wait a month and that fixed the comfort issue i had because i was going to do anything to make it work. i also feel like i might have to redo my face scan at some point. but i dont have an iphone so i've been delaying it. at least it doesnt bother me compared to the stock strap personally.

12:38 I've set the fan speed at 60%. Since I'm wearing wired IEMs, I'm hearing a low hum which was somewhat annoying at higher speed. The headset gets slightly warm, but it's nowhere near as close as the Vive Pro 2's temperature (which I also found tolerable). My eyes may get dry because of how isolated it is and the warmness, but I just have to blink more and drink water (which I can without a straw do because the headset is so small).

I'd love to hear your impression of night-time flying in DCS for an example since it can get very dark at times and maybe that could play into the OLEDs strength.
@cerberus0351

Honestly it’d probably be terrible. But I can explore it. The darkness is where the glare starts to become noticeable. Maybe I’ll do a night race in ACC tonight to see what’s up as well as a quick flight
@replacesoundboard
@replacesoundboard Ай бұрын
The major takeaway for people who are hesitating is: this is not a headset for everyone. If you're fine with a wired experience with base stations, an extremely small field of view (smaller than on the OG Vive; only 30% of the lenses is the sweet spot; beyond that, it gets blurry, and if you turn your eyes too much, you get out of the field of view entirely), want 4K micro OLED without screen-door effect or as little weight as possible, and can deal with the other negatives of the headset (some glare which I find very minimal and nearly non-existent but some cannot tolerate any form of glare at all for example), go ahead. But you won't be able to share it with anyone because the gasket will be custom fitted for your face only. People who have the same IPD as you may be able to hold the headset just to see what it looks like by removing the gasket, but that's it. If however you're more of a Quest 3 user who likes the freedom from wireless, standalone, inside out tracking, big field of view, glare free lenses, ultra affordable, this may not be a headset for you.
@SargonDragon
@SargonDragon Ай бұрын
If you're getting an extremely small FOV and only 30% of the lens is the sweet spot, that's a fitment problem. Your cushion is too thick. I had that with mine. I got a thinner cushion and now the FOV is similar to my Quest 3 (like is noted in this video).

@replacesoundboard

@@SargonDragon Despite that, I'm still very satisfied with it. As long as my eyes remain focused mostly around the centre, the field of view is good enough for me. I just have to avoid turning my eyes too far.

@@SargonDragon Ah, I just tried something crazy: I removed my face gasket and adjusted the "halo mode" from my 3D printed soft strap mode and that allowed me to use the headset without the face gasket. In doing so, I was able to approach to headset relatively close to my eyes. And when the lenses were sitting against my eyelids... Oh, wow, what a gigantic field of view. Although in doing so, my eyes were getting dry super fast because of the heat. Plus I could get hurt if I accidentally hit a wall or something. I think I'm going to try asking for a thinner face gasket. But the "halo mode" means I could potentially share the headset by just removing the gasket

I'm looking for this as an upgrade to a vive so being locked in steam vr is not a issue for me.

@cerberus0351 Ай бұрын
I prefer it to the alternatives I’ve used in the past. I have good enough hardware that steam VR isn’t an issue and I like not having to run any middleware. This is still my go-to headset at the moment for what it’s worth. I did absolutely hate the glare last night though playing metro awakening. It was terrible. But I don’t play dark games all that often so it’s still mostly moot for me

@cerberus0351 to be honest even with the glare, I'm sure it's no where near as bad as the vive lenses. I never modified my vive so I still have the original lenses, so yeah lol. Edit: I'm just saying it's an upgrade for me, not discounting a problem with the headset

@@justfeeldbyrne2791 I guess it should be a clear upgrade then. The binocular effect seems similar in my opinion. The only downside comes from the lenses, because of their small size (fitted to the 1-inch panels). As long as you remain in the sweet spot and move the eyes just a bit around, it's perfectly fine. Once you start moving the eyes beyond that, you may notice colour shift (red hue when going up/down; green hue when going left right) if you are looking at the very edges, which are also too blurry to see anything. I usually avoid turning the eyes too far, because then I'm out of the lenses boundary/field of view entirely. I moved from the Vive Pro 1 into it, and even though I clearly lost some field of view (I liked the Fresnel lenses; even if it was blurry, I could still see the edges to some extent), I'm happy about my purchase.

@@replacesoundboard I don't believe that's true. Neither of Shiftall's two previous headsets actually shipped. And neither was a wireless standalone headset. i got one a while back, and i ended up returning it. waiting for months to receive my order, only to notice the disappointing FOV, a face gasket that didn't fit properly, PLUS an incorrect IPD, i figured it wasn't worth the hassle to get it fixed. a big waste of my time and money.

That’s such a common story. They seem to be doing a lot better now. I got mine in under 5 days and things are pretty solid. The FOV is about on par with my quest after I added a thicker facial interface. I’m sure getting all those issues fixed wouldn’t have been worth it. Dear God!!!😢 this headset is plagued with problems concerning IPD adjustments the crazy glare and the fact that you only have a limited time to have all these things fixed before big screen charges you extra outside of their warranty. I use my quest 3 more than my big screen beyond to be honest. Big Screen told me they discord that their IPD measuring algorithm was quite off for a percentage of their buyers, so the scanning app is not at all reliable.
