A lot of people have been asking why the octane rating in the US is so low compared to Europe. In the US we use a different rating system called "Anti Knock Index" while in Europe you have "Research Octane Number." 91 octane US is the equivalent of 95 octane EU. In the US, most gas stations offer 93 octane which would be about 97.4 in Europe.
@muhammadnizamie87405 жыл бұрын
In south Africa it's only 95
@desertpair25 жыл бұрын
I liked your video, but I certainly disagree with you about 93 octane in the U.S. MOST gas stations do NOT offer 93 octane. Here in California, "premium" is 91 octane AKI and you have to search diligently for 93 octane. Few stations sell it. I travel to Colorado fairly often, and the octane levels are even lower, because of high altitude. "Premium" is 89 octane. I don't know where you'd get 93. In almost every metro area you will find 100 octane at a few specialty stations (I think Sunoco is most common), but you have to do your research to find out where they are. They're not going to sell higher than 91 at Arco or Chevron!
@Musevendyi5 жыл бұрын
In the eastern half of the country 93 is the standard high test octane available most states except Maine.
@justinbuice5 жыл бұрын
@@desertpair2 It's been a while since I've been to CA. Here in the midwest, almost all gas stations sell 93. It would be unusual to find a station that doesn't have it.

Best thing about this video is seeing the price of GAS, back in 2017, also in USA. Compared to me locally where I run my car on 95 (we have 91, 95 and 98 options or E85 for ethanol cars in NZ). 95 where I live is currently as of 26/04/2019 $ 2.30/L NZD which translates to approx $1.52/L USD at current prices! People complain about the price of the cheap sludge (AKA 91) petrol since its over $2/L ^_^ Even if your "USA 91" is the same as 95 here $2.90usd is $4.38 NZD/L People would shit a brick if the pumps charged that!!! You could run your car on 98 here at just under $3.00 NZD/L or on ethanol $3.05/L , and it would be close to 2/3 price of the USA's petrol !!! How does $1.98USD/L for USA "93" Petrol or ethanol sound Justin? ^_^ Ethanol is super hard to find though, most race tracks may have it but on the roads most car lovers can only buy 98.

I bought a 2008 5 series as my first car at 17. 75k miles, no accidents or big issues at all. Right now I'm at 80k, I've had the car for about 4 months with no issues. My advice if anyone is trying to buy a used BMW- be sure the previous owner(s) have detailed record of scheduled services, oil change etc. it's not worth the risk to buy one and realize there are issues later down the road. That being said, I would absolutely recommend a bmw as a first car if you can afford it.

I'm 19 now but I got my 2005 BMW X3 when I was 17 with 118k miles for $4,000 at the auction. Insurance through my parents is about $165 a month, gas can get expensive last time I filled up gas was $3.36 for 93 in MA and cost a bit of change over $50 to fill up. Maintenance wise besides oil changes and tires I've had to replace 4-5 coil packs which are about $30 each. Currently at about 134k miles running strong. Also a 6 speed manual which is pretty rare people are always surprised.

This was a great video for people interested in BMWs. I personally recommend looking into a CPO. It costs a bit more than the asking price but you get 2+ years added on to the original warranty. And the car has been thoroughly inspected by Bmw. I added an extra 2 year service plan to my car. So I could save on oil changes, and other service repairs. A CPO also lets you receive really low interest rates on car loans. Mine was 1.59%.

It cost me more for my BMW than for my previous vehicle which was a Lexus. Everyone watching this video he is 100% correct. I have paid $200 for an oil change at the dealer. And $1000 for repair cost.

The first car that I really used was actually a 335d, only time I have used it properly was testing it after the EGR recall thing, great car except for that one problem that causes oil to explode out of the intake manifold and pour smoke into the air vents, but at least BMW are doing it for free

Im 14 rn, and in almost 2 years from now, i'll be cleared to drive. My dad's first car was a Mustang he bought after getting his degree from LSU. 2001 mustang, black with a convertible roof. I still wish we had it because ohh man would I have loved it, but unfortunately he donated it to Kars for Kids in an attempt to help raise money for the Childrens Hospital. Im happy we helped out some kids, but i'll have to save up for my own car. Ive got almost 500$, after saving 4 a bit, and i'm trying to go german, most likely Audi or BMW. If not, maybe a Lexus or an Infinity. Here in CA, gas is soo expensive, and car prices are super high. Ugh, and taxes and etc, idk how i'm gonna afford one of those cars, but it's the goal.

Speaking from a 17 yr old who did buy a BMW for their first car it's expensive. I bought the exact same car Justin had but no the AWD version and mine had the M sport package. 140K mileage paid less than 6K and the car so far had been really unreliable. Had A bad DTML pump and a charcoal canister go bad in the first week spent $1000 on repairs and spent $110 on a breakfluid change now at the Indy shop I took it too discover I was leaking Power steering fluid, valve cover gasket leaking and oil pan gasket. I'm looking at about $1500 to fix it fully. So keep in mind they are expensive. My family has helped me so far cover the repairs since I'm still in school. I wish now I would have just bought a dealer BMW with low mileage

Thanks for the video! Absolutely true everything you said! I have my 2010 e90. Its been super reliable up until i hit 120k then electric water pump went. Few month after the head cover seal went, after that my coils needed to be replaced. But again I owned the car for 7 years until i had these problems. So if i may put my advice out there for ppl that are looking to get into a BMW, definitely consider milage that would be my number 1 advice just like you said! And being financial prepared to cover unexpected costs. I mean that goes for any brand of car but keep in mind that BMW is always going to be a bit more privacy when it comes to repairs. However in my opinion it pays off, you'll get the smoothness, performance and elegance of driving a BMW.

Taught me a lot about what i like in cars, and what i dont. My first car was a 2000 VW Jetta GLS and I loved it. Although I would like to add that a 2006 BMW 325i is an AMAZINGLY fuel efficient car. Once I learned how to drive it here in Houston when I average 45-60 mph I can get between 40-50 mpg, so I’d say once you learn the most efficient range a SMALLER ENGINE BMW can be as efficient as any car, and if you become an expert at it you can get Prius V efficiency.

Well as far as oil changes go, it may sound more expensive, but it's only 1 oil change/yr. or every 10,000 miles for the newer models. Oil changes in NY generally go for about $45-$70 every 3 months or 3,000 miles for synthetic oil. So it can avg. from 120-210, whereas BMW's 1 oil change/yr. is about $150-$175. So it almost balances out.

Finding a good Indie will save your wallet. I brought my 08 328i to an indie, got both brake pad replaced, oil change, spark plugs, brake fluid flush, steering fluid flush for around $500-$600. I did the engine air filter and and cabin air filter my self

Lower miles on these cars aren’t always better. I bought mine with 105k, so the previous owner took the hit on the 100k mile servicing. Thinking about what services and repairs have to be done and when and comparing it with what the previous owners have already replaced is something to think about

A Mercedes or BMW will be my first car. I live in California with the high gas prices.. & Insurance will be a lot because I’m 18 but I’ll probably join my parents insurance until I buy my own car.. anything to save money rn haha.

Hello Justin! I am a big fan of yours! I have a question regarding a purchase that I’ve been wanting to make. I want to buy a 2011 BMW 328i Xdrive for $9.5k with 98.400 miles. Would you consider this a car to have a high mileage, or in your opinion, how many miles is high?
@justinbuice5 жыл бұрын
Thats not too bad. See if it has any service history because that is around the milage that the water pump, thermostat, and valve cover gasket usually need to be replaced. It would be nice to know if the previous owner has done those recently

How long you plan on keeping this car I'm curious because you seem like you keep it up well and I want to do the same
@justinbuice6 жыл бұрын
I plan on keeping it until it dies. it only has 78k miles on it now so it should have many years of life in it. I've seen E90's reach 200k easily

5:21 i cried when I saw the depreciation on my car, I would have been better to put a bit more more and get a 2 series vert, but I still love my 128i. BUT I couldn't justify paying 50k for a car
