I read an article that Marshawn Lynch decided to play Mr G in this film to atone for initially reacting badly when his sister came out as a lesbian when they were teenagers. Fortunately, they patched things up, with him giving her away at her wedding.

@@SophiaPhannn I liked bottoms bc most of the jokes were satirical and had funny social commentary. The r*** line isn't making fun of sa victims, its laughing at how sad it is that its so common (when they put their hands up for "grey" area stuff, really drives the point they are making). the movie is less of a lesbian comedy and more of satire of patriarchy. Kinda like the barbie movie but way less restrained. and it makes sense that PJ says the line since her character has no tact, or true care for feminism. She just wants sex

I feel the same as you about Bottoms, I didn't think it was bad on first watch but I didn't think it lived up to the hype. It grew on me though, and I like having a queer movie that isn't sad or drama ridden...or about coming out(there's SO MANY of those). Them being gay is part of the plot but it's kind of just a trait of the characters rather than the driving force behind it.

seeing this film in theaters was great bc mostly people who i assume were queer, showed up. I think we need goofy gross coming of age stories that depict young women, especially sapphic young women. Often queer coming of age stories have been sad and tragic, but i believe a bit of levity would go a long way. If “super bad, “Napoleon Dynamite” “Pineapple express”, and “Booksmart” can exist, so can bottoms.

I'm surprised at how many people dislike PJ. Yes, she's a liar, manipulative and arrogant, but she's also lonely, horny and unloved. Her behaviour may be more of a coping mechanism than her true personality. I think she and Hazel would make a very cute couple, and the way they act after their kiss, I think they really will be. Yeah, this movie has a lot of kind of surreal absurdists humor in it... It's not based in our reality... And so you have to go into it kind of knowing that and accepting that as a fact of the reality of the movie... Like literally NO school would be like "can the untalented ugly gays come to the office"... A real school would say the students names... So yeah it's absolutely ridiculous in some of the dialogue and situations that happen... But I'm positive that it's purposefully done this way. The movies reality and our reality are not meant to match up. But yeah it's a type of humor that isn't everybody's cup of tea... And so I kind of understand why your straight friends didn't really jive with it, i guess. They have kind of more hurdles to get over in a way. They have all of the overtly queer material in the movie and then additionally they have all this weird humor and dialogue that they have to get over to find the humour... Whereas a lot of gay people who have watched this movie JUST have to get over the surrealist humor. 🤷♀️ Idk.

I thought the first half was hilarious and the second half was a let down. I thought it was gonna be The Wolf of Wall Street in a high school and it wasn’t that at all. Also the ending on the football field came out of nowhere. If you have a movie that’s somewhat grounded and then out of nowhere people casually die and no one bats an eye, it’s really weird
