I think a lot of British food is like sushi. Sure, the side dish for Sunday roast is 'just some potatoes and gravy' but that's like saying a nice fatty piece of bluefin Tuna sashimi that just came off the boat an hour ago is 'just some fish and some rice.' It's not complicated, it's just really tasty.
