Thank you for sharing this nice video about the city I live in and try to promote to visitors 😊Indeed Fishermans bastion is one of the most popular spots and certainly the most crowded, but the tip about coming here late evening is nice as most of the organized tour groups are gone by that time and its easier to enjoy it, although I would say you don't need to climb up to the first floor of the Fishermans bastion (for which you need to pay during the day, but in late evening and very early morning the gates are open and no tickets are needed), the views are actually really good at the ground floor too and the arches and "Windows" make an excellent frame for the city of Pest :) Other scenic spots not mentioned in the video that I really like include the Danube view from Gellert hill lookout spots, On Buda side of the river right in front of Parliament building at Batthanyi ter Station or the View of the St Stephens Basilica in the Zrinyi street in front of it 😊

At 4.20, under the right sleeve of Bea's jacket, you can notice a minuscule statue of the famous Franz Josef, whose name the Liberty Bridge was wearing earlier. ;-) He is sitting in a hammock, but I think he was placed there only by the playful mind of the artist, Mihály Kolodko. (Feel free to correct me if there is a reason for the hammock!)

OMG. I am shocked that DW was able to show (and say) not only negative things about Hungary. I was prepared for that they would show homeless people lying on the ground, graffiti, weedy suburban housing estates, etc., since there are plenty of those as well. Surely the DW Travel editors won't have a problem from this? Does the political DW not punish them for this ideological deviation?

Huge reconstruction after the world wars and 1956 and big renovations and upgrades in the last 20 years. I'd been visiting for 11 years and living here for the last 10 years now. There was a complete overhaul of the city park and an ongoing reconstruction/renovation of the castle district with original buildings being put back to their former glory and usage. I can say that Budapest has improved in so many ways, aesthetically, the events as well as becoming quite a foodie town which I'm very grateful for. I just hope it doesn't become one of those cities with overtourism.

I always like to read comments from ordinary people about whether a place is nice or not, so this time I will be the one to write one. Maybe I expected a little bit more from the city, but only a little more, it is actually very beautiful and worth a visit. I haven't been to the spa, I really don't want to take a bath with a thousand people inside :) I was a little disappointed with the food, maybe I wasn't lucky when it comes to the restaurant. I ate a famous Hungarian dish, it was just boiled hot water with potatoes :/

You unfortunately asked for Goulash soup. In Hungary, the dish which is called goulash internationally, is called Pörkölt. That is the thick stew most turists are looking for. It is a shame, and a big confusion unfortunately. I do not understand why restaurants dont adress this issue.
@Hungarian_subtext
@Hungarian_subtext 3 ай бұрын
You should try fisherman's soup (halászlé). It's considered one of the spicier European foods. But a good goulash shouldn't feel like some hot water. It's actually quite a hearty soup. We have our fair share of tourist traps, so you should look the restaurants up in advance.

You should not to worry about the cleanliness of the water in the spas as all of them has the latest pool cleaning equipments. The ph level is constantly being monitored by sensors so if it’s getting higher a computer is automatically adding the right amount of neutralizers. Although these things are being written out on boards where the management is asking the guests kindly to taking a shower before they going into the pools and using the bathrooms in order to keep the thermal water’s quality on a good level. All this because the thermal water has a healing effect and the neutralizers what they using in order to maintain the optimal ph level is weakening the thermal water. The problem is rather that foreign visitors are looking at these spas as an amusement park and they are often being loud and obnoxious. Not caring about the facts that these facilities are for health purposes and not for fun. As i naitive i really don’t like thoes party events what the Széchenyi spa holding on weekends.

So now they are lying?

I am from Budapest, and I fully rejecting this "Paris of the East" title, this is humiliating. I think Budapest have his own glamour and brand, don't need to compare with anyone. Budapest is just Budapest of Central Europe. I dont know much about Bucharest, but as I know this title they got in the interwar period, when the city really looked like a small-Paris. I think after the destruction of the communism (as I know Causescu destroyed a complete classical city district, to build up his megaloman Parliament), and the consequence of a devastating earthquake in the late 70s, the city now not really look like anything close to Paris, except they have few really beautiful buildings scattered, and a very small area of "old town" (Centru Vech), which containing few streets only...
