Well the video and the comments make it pretty clear that the majority of people do not know to use this beautiful car. Sources for my opinion real life experiences as the owner of a similar beetle in similar conditions. The baja Bob styled beetles will handle conditions that most modern vehicles can't or perhaps it is not the vehicle that is incapable so much as the driver. That is my opinion

I have a 1999 beetle. I took it to the gambler 500 2021. I built in on a budget so instead of buying the stage 3 VW Highlife lift kit, I bought springs from a passat wagon and that gave it a couple inches front and rear. I then bought rims and tires from a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee with 2 inch spacers, for better turning. took it out in the snow this last winter in Portland did not get stuck once. we had about 8 inches in a day. perhaps some bigger wheels and some weight reduction, like removing the back seats and some body work would help.

I really wanted to see an episode of Baja Bob with snow chains on the drive wheels. Its been my experience that makes a HUGE difference in snow and mud and even helps out on dry dirt like the time the Land Rover was used to tow Baja Bob up the hill. Overall I thought the entire Baja Bob series was an interesting attempt a low budget off roading. I applaud your efforts.

I'm a truck driver -- I've used my snow chains too many times in the MUD. Its a nasty job but it sure as hell can save you a $1000 tow bill.

Boquete Condo Maybe. Probably did ok for what it was built to do. TFL just did things with it which were more than likely not what it was built to do. For example, a funny car does really well at drag racing, not so good at driving on the highway. Same thing here with the Beetle and what TFL did with it.

Personally I think starting from scratch with a Honda Civic and adding a lift from Honda Rescue Garage would have been a better project. All you really did was repairs to a cosmetic build.

You can baja a beetle, and make it run circles around most jeeps. Just not with that beetle. Should have done an aircooled one.

I have an air cooled beetle that make pretty legit off roaders. This version sadly is NOT a good platform! I know Nathan shed zero tears when Bob rolled out of the TFL garage for the last time!👍😀💩

Sadly the new owners will end up hating this thing too. None of his plans included making it more off-road worthy. The new owner plans on basically adding additional weight. Good luck with that 👍

a fun project that unsurprisingly didn’t work off-road, but looked cool. Needed the full suspension treatment to be a Baja Bug, but then also needed to be a stick, preferably with the 1.8 turbo. I personally love these series tho, great fun, way more enjoyable than watching a $75k rig doing what it was designed to do, which is boring and unrealistic for me to ever get into. Here’s hoping there’s room in the TFL budget for more of this stuff, (eg-maybe a Forester that can do forest trail running etc..) Btw, on my commute home yesterday, I met an Isuzu Vehicicross

If you want an off road beetle; cut the body off the frame and put it on a SxS, ditch EVERYTHING else (engine, trans, suspension) exception of the windshield washer stuff... Check out bustedknuckle on KZbin to see a real off road beetle!

I think that this video and it's production was and is completely irresponsible. I've been an avid off road four wheel drive enthusiast for a better part of 40 years. After seeing the abuse and outright danger that you put yourselves through is asinine to say the least. You never ever want to take a vehicle like this on a steep, snow filled high mountain trail without at minimum, a 4 wheel drive capability. My 2 cents worth.

Calling this a "project" is a joke. You guys bought a car that was purpose built for an event, did nothing to it, and then sold it. I'm sorry but paying a couple of mechanics to fix existing issues on the car doesn't make it a "project car". TFL Offroad is the joke here, even though you guys spent a lot of time making this car the joke, your channel is the joke. Non joke channel sticks a VW 4-motion in it with a turbo or something...now you have a project car. Side thoughts... I wonder what Tanner Foust drives in Rallycross?
