I don’t off-road my 2010 bug. But I drive around rural areas/potholes and dirt roads enough that the rattling split cracks in my aluminum gas tank. Just managed to get a new tank after lots of searching and highly considering this in order to hopefully prevent the same problem again

So, what's stopping you from leaving the stock struts in place and just adding a spacer on top? You'd get the lift without the stiffer springs, thus a more smooth ride. The rear can be the same, but with adding the shock stem extension. Heck of a lot cheaper since this can and never really be an offroad vehicle.
@DadWagon Жыл бұрын
Sure, of course you could do that. My shocks needed replacing either way.

Great video! Love the look of the beefy Beetle! Any plans on doing any upgrades to the Momwagon? I think the Ford Flex is an awesome looking vehicle and you very rarely see any modded.
@DadWagon2 жыл бұрын
Not too much - it's nice to have one vehicle that hasn't been 'messed' with. Only mod is increased the size of sidewall on the tires, and went with some hybrid AT tires.

Putting bigger tires on , does it affect the power of the engine? Did you do any changes or adjustments to the engine or transmission?
@normvw4053 Жыл бұрын
I have a 2009 S series Beetle. From the factory they are a very stable vehicle. Did incorporating the lift kit affect this stability, in the turns? If so, how much? I really love how these cars corner and handle at speed. Was this affected much? Please advise.

It was very valuable all the information you give us sadly you dont measure it before and after to know how much you won its to hard to find the kit in the coutry I live but I like to know if the parts I can find it matching other brands or fit on other cars like regular parts thanks in advance

The link you have attached isn’t working , went on their website but was unable to send them an email as that link was broken as well. Do you know if they are still in business ?

I updated the link in the description and you can find it here as well geni.us/VWliftkitbug - I know there have been some supply chain issues - but I'm sure they're happy to help.

I loved the video edit of the race truck jumping while you described why you wanted to add lift to the beetle!!! Fun project!!! Question: do you know if you need to beef up your transmission to handle the larger tire/wheels??? Or did you need to recalibrate the speedometer?
@DadWagon2 жыл бұрын
Speedometer is definitely off. Not planning on reprogramming since it's not a daily driver. Not sure on the transmission, but I would have to believe it's going to stress it a bit more.

I enjoyed your video! It’s been a few months now. What’s your take on how it drives? I am considering this kit on my daughters 2001 beetle so it needs to drive well
@DadWagon Жыл бұрын
It drives great. the only issues i have is still making room for these big tires in certain spots - if you go with a moderate tire size increase, it will drive amazing.

Hey Dadwagon, what rear shocks are you using to achieve the lift? Also is the ride quality soft?
@DadWagon Жыл бұрын
Ride quality is medium to fairly soft with the large tires. Suspension is stiff than stock, but not nearly as stiff as many who choose to use SUV Shocks and springs.
@DadWagon Жыл бұрын
They're from the Bilstein HD line of shocks. Visit VWLIFTKITS for the proper shocks.

Too funny! Just ordered the Stage 3 kit for my 2010! Question… I noticed the front sits lower than the rear… do you know why? Or how to make it level? Thx!
@DadWagon Жыл бұрын
I was told that it's visually lower... but the lift is equal. This is true in all their promo photos too. I'm not sure why. I agree that I'd like to see it fully level.
@jkrebuilt Жыл бұрын
@@DadWagon just installed it yesterday and today installed the tires. Uploading video tonight… but yes it’s higher in the back too…. Wonder if the rear shock spacers at the top is what is making it look that much higher…. Wonder what happens if removed…
@jkrebuilt Жыл бұрын
@@DadWagon I got a reply from them! They said the kit is designed that way in front so there’s no issues with the axle at a different angle and that the 2.5 engine is a bit heavier so it weighs it down a bit… and in the rear is higher to allow more cargo load, so it won’t sag I guess

What size tires are those? I am going with 225 75 r16 and want to see where they will rub.
@DadWagon Жыл бұрын
215/75/R15 - rears have no rubbing. Fronts i had to remove a bit of liner and hammer some of the metal on the driver side. I plan to get some wheels with more offset - or back spacing and this shouldn't be an issue.
@ToyodaDon1 Жыл бұрын
@@DadWagon ok awesome I appreciate your response. I figured getting new rims with 0+- offset were the best option. Since I already got the tires I'm kind of stuck with them.

No not really, but haven't put a ton of miles on it. There was some fender trimming I had to take care of, but that could be minimized with slightly smaller rubber.
