If she was a big 6'5" post player that scored all her points on layups and putbacks, she would not be exciting. Instead, she is an extremely gifted shooter. I think her closest male comp is Steph Curry. She has the chance to bring a ton of eyeballs to a sport that nobody really watches. For that reason, she is a star. And her popularity is organic. She isn't being overhyped like so many supposed stars. In fact, I think she is given less fanfare than what she deserves.

That’s why she will be loved by most fans but the liberal media and progressives are going to hate her and try to smear her reputation and accuse America being racist for sporting a straight white Catholic woman. Go woke go broke is the epitome of the WNBA and Kaitlyn Clark is the opposite of that. Kaitlyn has the personality and the talent to be an international star but not in the WNBA. Good for you. But realize you are in the vast vast minority. Need proof? Ohtani makes so much money aside from his baseball salary that he could afford to defer 68M per season. No woman’s basketball player or woman’s athlete in general can do that. Nor will they likely ever be able to do that. Because the same level of interest isn’t there. Baseball players make a lot more money because a lot more people like to follow and watch it than any women’s sport. Proof is in the money these sports leagues generate (or don’t generate). Again, more power to you, but you don’t represent the vast majority.

I don't think people realize that we've seen a couple of women's collegiate basketball superstars that brought some level of fame that it led to the creation of the WNBA in the '90's. The main star at that time was Sheryl Swoops where she was dubbed "The Female Jordan" after she led Texas Tech to the NCAA title and then backed all of the hype up by winning 4 rings, 4 MVPs, 3 DPOYs, after missing her first season due to pregnancy. Clark is legit, but we've seen this before with Sheryl Swoops, except the media coverage for women's basketball was just growing. Clark has to do it at the next level and we'll see how she does. Right now, she is killing it and is the ONE. She has all the hype and coverage, and she is delivering on the court.

Except... she doesn't have to do anything in the future to be the biggest story/star in women's basketball. Future success in professional sports would be great too...and add to the her story. But she's already there. She doesn't have to prove anything. Even if she's not the greatest ever pro... that won't change what's going on right now. You can't go back in time and take away the fact that she's the biggest star in basketball this year... some say the biggest star in sports period right now. People DO realize there have been other great players in the past.... Miller, Swoops, Lobo etc. The fact is, none of them were as big a story as CC. None of them brought the same attention to the game... none of them were as addictive to watch....they were superstars within the women's game, but not superstars at the same level as CC. I remember all those players... maybe see them on sportscenter, etc but we didn't actually tune in to watch their games. That's never happened before. Now people not only know who CC is... they are actually watching the games. That's what Jordan did... made people watch even if they never did before. Maybe Juju can keep it going and be a superstar too in the next couple of years. She has the cool name too...

@@teamfusionracing - It's not about "proving" anything. It's about VALIDATING the hype and doing it at the next level where she maintains or is near the run she is having now. You need to recognize what is at play here and not think that all of this hype by the media is for the NCAA. Oh no, this is all about the WNBA and you can bet your last dollar that the league will tell whatever coach she plays for after being drafted that she better have the green light to light it up. Normally, a rookie would have a leash on them, but Clark won't because the WNBA ain't trying to fumble the bag with her. She has the eyes and interest and they want to keep it, so they gonna ride her as much as possible. Also, I don't know your age, but Sheryl Swoops definitely had the same level of hype back in the mid-90's. The difference is that we now have social media, streaming, and more sports coverage on TV. Back then it wasn't that big, but Swoops helped usher in the WNBA when it never existed. You can't look at women's sports like it is today because the money and media came in years later. They were the ones that put women basketball on the map. Clark and others are benefitting off of what they started.

@@parawill7074 I get what you say. But it's too late... to think that she needs to be validated. If this was a one-and-done like in the men's game... like maybe Zion a couple years ago, that makes sense. The NBA is vastly higher level and popularity than the college game... and college is just like training camp for the really good players. But it's a different deal I think... for women's basketball. College is more popular, more exposure, now more $$$$... than any women's professional league. CC and the other current stars coming out of college...might change that for the WNBA. I remember Reggie's sister.... I lived the 80's as a fan of basketball... but like I said, myself and all the other guys I know... never watched women's basketball, even though we did know who the "stars" were and maybe even knew that somebody won the title that year... but only because we saw the news or sportscenter. We didn't watch the games. People now are watching more of the games... and CC and that tournament run last year is a huge reason. I think the ratings prove that.... I don't know what the WNBA ratings have been, but it can't be even close to what some of the Iowa and LSU-SC type games are doing. WNBA is on life support... it's unwatchable and unpopular... so I've heard :)

@@teamfusionracing - People have short attention spans, dude. The women's game only got one shot with her and she has to deliver beyond Iowa and the NCAA. She is not the first and won't be last, but she can be the NOW. However, if she isn't electrifying in the WNBA, no one will care. She has the scoring record and the tournament is next. If Iowa gets bounced, the train starts to slow a bit until she decides what she is going to do. I can't see her coming back to Iowa, but with the NIL, she is making more money, so she has the option to stay. We'll see.

Like the other virtue signaler to whom I responded - good, great, grand, wonderful for you. But just realize that you represent a VAST minority opinion. Proof is in the vast difference in money and viewership generated by MLB versus the WNBA and Women’s College Basketball. They aren’t even comparable. Ohtani just signed a 70M per contract and makes as much or more off the diamond. Meanwhile the WNBA has never made a dime since its inception in 1997 and is still subsidized by the NBA otherwise it would have folded a long while ago. Women’s college ball draws more interest than the WNBA but nowhere near the level of their male counterparts or men’s pro leagues, namely MLB. If more people were like you, this talk of women not making enough money to avoid working a 2nd job wouldn’t exist. Because they’d have a lot more support and generate more money. But they don’t. Because you and the others in this comments section saying the same are a vast minority. The WNBA and college basketball need about 10-15 more Caitlin Clark’s to really have a shot at moving that sport forward. Even then, there’s only so much interest a secondary league will get. It’s like expecting minor league baseball or the NBA’s G-League to draw similar interest and money as the league above it. It ain’t gonna happen. It will always be a niche sport appealing to a small monority. Lastly, these women always get upset about the lack of support, but the ironic thing is - the #1 fan demographic that supports women’s basketball is OLDER men. Many, including these athletes themselves, don’t seem to be aware of that. Most women also choose to follow and watch men’s sports too. For obvious reasons.

it's because of media making her the golden child as they tend to do. Not because she's so much better than every other female player. She's not the best player. She is just another volume shooter a la Kelsey Mitchell Kelsey Plum. These people that think she is so great don't know anything about actual women's basketball. They only know who she is because she's cracked the mainstream media.

I watched basketball in the 80's and i saw an interview with Larry Bird and they asked him who he thought was the best basketball player in the NBA, and he said Magic Johnson was the best player and he criticized Michael Jordan for taking too many shots. This was early in Jordans career, so his opinion i am sure changed. So i dont know where Steve Kim said Larry Bird said Michael is going to be the best of all time after playing one game.

I will put the game on and she never disappoints because she does not shoot like a woman she shoots like a man. The speed of the ball goes from the three-point line is ridiculous. You are not wrong. You are right on with what you were saying about her. When is there ever been a time that there has been a female college basketball fan?
