I don't yet believe that there is a good Canon replacement for the M6mk2. Actually, maybe the RP. I have the original M50, and I think I'm going to stick with that till it breaks. The small size is something that I love about the M cameras. These new RF offerings just cannot compete with the M for a daily carry camera… and I carry mine every single day.

If size is the important thing for you the M6 mark II beats the other cameras ☺️ The EM-M lenses is also small and compact, so for a run and gun camera the M6 mark II is great 😊

I would like to see a photography focused comparison… every video that I see comparing the new R7 and R10 to the M6 are focused on video creation. I really love the results that I get with the M6 Mark II, and I use it only for photography. Am I losing something by not upgrading?

I recently bought the m6 ii for 650€ including a 18-150 canon lens which is worth about 300€. So I paid about 350€ for the body which is an incredible value. I thought about flipping it to get a r10 but honestly I didnt figure it worth the hassle. And the r7 would be twice as expensive. So im gonna stick with the m6 and maybe get a cage with a grip since thats my biggest complaint with the camera.

I have a cage with grip on mine and it makes it a great camera now, I can add anything with a hotshoe as well, like lights, mic, that sort of thing, and with the sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens added to the body it makes for a perfect vlogging camera with eye detect.

m6 mk2 is a much better option than either of these for me. I have an eos R and that is good as its full frame. I dont see the point of a crop sensor eos R at this stage.,

What lens would you recommend as a starter kit for R7? I think I’ve finally made my mind to buy an R7 but I will go body only. I am not convinced that the 18-150 kit lens is worth it unless it is significantly better than the EF-M variant that I happen to own. And as far as I can hear from YT reviews it isn’t. I am looking for an universal zoom like the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 Contemporary that does not seem to be available for Canon (hopefully yet).

All due respect, the EF-M system has much more lenses than the RF system in terms of APC lenses. Especially if you consider the holly trinity from Sigma which are amazing lenses. I can tell you because I have Canon M6 MK II and also the R7 that there are very few options in terms of APC lenses for the R7. I am using it mostly with full frame lenses in the RF systems but I still keep my two M6 MKII because they are soo portable. With an L braket from smallrig they are perfect even for recording video (I know they are 3.5K in reality but it's not noticeable), the quality is still extremely good and the pictures are amazing and on-par with the R7. In my own opinion it's not worth to upgrade until Canon allow third party manufacturers in the RF system. Until then, the M6 MKII is still a king in my book. And it's also especially good because it can be different things. It can be a small point-n-shoot with the EF-M 22mm F2 from Canon or it can be a vlogger with the L braket and the sigma 16mm F1.4 which is an absolute beast even today. The 55-200mm EF-M from Canon is also impossible to detect if you shoot it next to an 70-200 EF F4L (had that on my M6 long time).

The main problem with the m6 mk2 for me is that the video output is on the left and all my monitors have the input on the right so the cable is in the way all the time.

R7 - IBIS Checked , 4K 60 No Crop Checked, New AutoFocus Checked, Supersampled 4K Checked - This is the Only main advantages that matter to upgrade from my M6 Mark II

I have the canon r5, m100, 6D, but for some reason I am in love with the design and ergonomics of the canon m6 mark II. I would like to have it, but for the same price I could have an R10, which is clearly better.

Pretty impressive output of videos lately! Nice to have all three for comparison like that, and I would agree that the R7 is a true upgrade from the M6 Mark II. In my view, the R10 replaces the Canon M6 Mark II for new buyers in that price range with its improvements in autofocus and processor and a modern lens mount with a future, despite the slight decrease in megapixels. But for those who already own an M6 mark II it’s too lateral a move to be worthwhile. The R7 on the other hand is a significant upgrade in both features and price, for someone wanting to move up to weather sealed hybrid camera with IBIS, excellent for wildlife and sports (and who has the funds to do so).

I agree, there is to few upgrades in the R10 for it to be a good upgrade for the M6 mark II. Even if the price is higher with the R7 it’s more features for the price than with the R10.

Great review! Another comparison would be the Canon R (original) vs the Canon R7 for photo quality. These cameras are priced close and I think some people might be considering either one. I know for video and 4K, the fine video model of R7 is better than the crop 4K video of Canon R. However, photo quality in low light is a different story. Full frame should be better for low noise in low light. I can see though, many advantages of an R10 and R7 over a M6ii, except maybe compact M lenses for travel purposes for personal family photos. Lightweight camera on a small gimbal also may make M6ii attractive with small lenses. However R vs. R7 is like apples to oranges. FF vs Aps-C, however not far apart on price on body. Would be interesting to compare the R with the R7, but I don’t own the R anymore unfortunately. I had transitioned fully from Canon to Sony but I missed the feel of my old R so I bought the R7. I agree, the size and compactness of the M6 mark II makes it a good travel camera, but with the release of the R7 and all the new features in that camera, and the fact that the M-mount is going to be faded out (no official Canon statement about that yet, but we can all see what direction it’s going) I can’t recommend the M6 mark II if people have the budget for the R10 or the R7.

Nice review roger, one point though, the r10 also shoots over sampled 4k as it is down sampled from its 6k sensor. I heard you mention the r7 did this but not the r10.

R7 would be great upgrade for my m6ii, but! But if canon wouldnt be so unfriendly to their own customers. My native efm lenses are useless for new crops. Rf-s lenses not exist because of canon politics in terms of third party companies. So i feel absolute disrespect from canon to me. Old system is dead. Old lenses are useless. New lenses dont exist. Meh...

You’re not alone in feeling abandoned by canon when it comes to the EF-M system. But as someone that started out with the EF-M system myself and really enjoyed using the M6 mark II, from a business perspective I do understand why Canon has made the focus shift to the RF system. And as technology develops I think having the RF mount on both full frame and APS-C cameras can be useful for the consumer. Off course it’s a bummer for people that has invested in the EF-M system, but the gear they already have will still be useful for many years down the road fortunately. It’s just sad that they won’t see any new development.. The decision Canon made on third party lenses for the RF mount is probably not the best one in my opinion, but I am hopeful that they will turn around on that one. And hopefully will see good and fast quality RF-S lenses down the road.

The Canon Mark 6 II is extremely well with a small rig cage. It eliminates all issues with he grip and also the microphone which you place on the side. This is a terrible review when it comes to ergonomics. The reviewer besides speaking English poorly has not taken time to analyze the capabilities of both camera. I wish he knew the difference between his has. Jeez. He obviously is just comparing specs but has clearly has not spent much time using them in the real world. Please do not take this review seriously. He does not talk about the huge price differences of over a $1000.00. Between the R7 which he loves and the Mark 6 II with the small rig cage and removable viewfinder. He mistakenly believes that there are more native lenses for the APC R mount than for the M mount of the mark VI II. Once again there are the Canon 22MM and 32mm both excellent, the three Sigma M mount lenses at 16mm, 30mm and 56mm. These are all excellent lenses. There are only two RF lenses made for the APC mount at this time.

the M6ii was lagging on unlimited time recording... (30min) for con.. but for pro wise... the 4k and 24p... was lovely... also Timelapse on M6ii which don't have on R7.. u got it for R10 for Timelapse... but not better resolution and performances.. Lens Mount is one issue... but battery is great for R10 with M6ii shares the same E17... but not for R7 i have M6ii RP and R7... but the upgrade is worth it unless Timelapse is a must for ur videography... if not... R7.. go for it.. Headphone.. recording limits... 4K uncrop... USB speed... weather seal if not.. not worth it to move to R10.. M6ii (14 FPS) for R10(15FPS) R7(15FPS)
