It is quite clear that such an extreme diet like carnivore is only popular among those with a lot of health problems. For medical science this should be interesting to study, ie how such an unnatural diet changes the physiology to the better. It is important though to emphasize that carnivore is not for the average healthy person.

I am not consistently carnivore, as on the weekends I will incorporate some vegetables for variety. However, on the weekdays I am carnivore. I noticed that regardless of how much meat I eat, even if I gorge myself well past the point of satiety, my belly never gets the ugly and uncomfortable distended look. Its only on the weekends, when I incorporate vegetables into my diet, that is when I get that bloated and abdominal distension. I really should cut out the vegetables entirely, but I admit I just like the mouth feel and flavor of charred cauliflower and broccoli.

Thanks for all your hard work for the cause of health, Mark. I'm listening to your last book now on Audible and am really enjoying it. I went carnivore on 2/2/22 after some fairly serious health issues the last few years, including intestinal blockages and diverticulitis, which led to a punctured colon that almost required surgery in 2018, and then Bell's Palsy in early Feb of this year, as well as being severely obese at 5'6", 275 lbs with a 44 inch waist. As of today (6/30/22) I am down to 197 lbs (-78 lbs) and my waist size is 32, which is 4 inches smaller than when I graduated high school in 1987! It also puts me in the healthy range of height to waist ration for the first time ever. I'm fairly large frame, so 150, where the outdated "BMI scale" says I should be is unrealistic and wrong. Carnivore may not be for everyone, but if you are having health issues and the future looks bleak from a health perspective, it can certainly be successful way of eating and feeling better. I literally (and not figuratively) feel like a different person today due to the dieting changeover to full carnivore. I tell people now that if they can just get rid of processed food and sugar their health will improve and they will start to feel better and better as they return to metabolic health for the first time in years.

He addressed fiber from the regularity perspective but what about as food for ur microbes? I did primarily meat for a long time and felt better than ever, as I was terribly autoimmune for a long time. My end results were muted bc I was consuming milk kefir at the same time w an unknown dairy allergy. But as time went along, I eliminated dairy and again..progress stalled. It wasnt till I added chia seeds and then especially potato starch powder that I noticed magic begin to happen. Prebiotic resistant starch. So I agree that eliminating inflammatory foods is part of it but if uve lost ur health, it is my experience that u need these fiber sources to replant and replenish it. That along w keto dominant paleo, onad, intermittent fasting and pure water fasting is where I'm at.

No bread or pasta or chips or fries. No cereal. No sugar from unnatural sources. So it's not one thing or the other but mainly meat. Dinner was a roast duck. It was delicious. How much fat are you consuming? One should eat fatty cuts (and definitely not chicken breasts) but a lot of people go overboard. Fat-Bombs can cause loose stools. Upping the protein generally turns them more solid. It can be a challenge to find the perfect balance between ingesting too much fat (loose stools, weight gain) and too little fat (low energy, bad mood, hunger).

Not to mention that eating nothing but meat and eggs is incredibly boring. I always go back to a lowish fat omnivore diet and end up feeling much better each time. Carnivore is clearly not for everyone.

We went the opposite direction years ago and tried a vegan diet which we've now been mostly practicing for 7 years. Reason was my wife's A1c, cholesterol and triglycerides were all getting high, cutting out meat drastically improved both of our lipid panels, in fact my total cholesterol has dropped to 117, A1c is 5.0 and blood pressure is lower than when I was in my 20's. For weight loss I'm sure any diet that helps burn fat will work but I really think for many of us putting all those animal fats into our bodies could lead to heart disease and other health issues. Sadly I've known too many people that looked fantastic on the outside, muscular, not overweight but inside was a different story. One thing I will TOTALLY agree on is sugar and processed foods/breads are absolutely horrible. Even after we went vegan our diets were quite high in sugar, only recently (past 7 months) have we totally eliminated any processed sugars have we started to feel way better. I never really felt any different on a vegan vs omni diet but like I said blood tests even 6 months after the change were mind blowing... but after cutting out sugar, wow, that was game changing and something I wish we'd done earlier. Sadly much of the information we read touted vegan diets but didn't really take into account replacing meat and dairy with sugar isn't a good path to health. I've also become a huge fan of eating less often, my day starts with a green smoothie and then I generally don't eat anything until 4 or 5 pm. I'm more productive not having to think about food and my digestion is better. I'm in my late 50's and 1600 calories a day is all I really need.

I'm open to diets and believe people who say these are helping them greatly. Prediabetic in 2019, A1C 5.9%. Initially did keto and 2 meals a day and got it down to 5.5% and lost a lot of weight. Down to my ideal weight of 170. After I was able to up the carbs slightly to a general lower carb diet and keep the same weight. But decided to try keto again because my A1C stayed too close to 5.7. Figured long term keto would fix this. 18 months of strict keto my A1C did not budge. My fasting blood glucose was around 100 and almost always above that during the day. And worse, all the saturated fat skyrocketed my LDL from a lifetime level around 80-90 to 180. I had to just have faith that keto long term and further increase in LDL was not a long term threat. Or change my diet. I opted for veganish Pescatarian because I love fishing and catch enough to supply my family year-round. And I have a garden. So for the last two months I actually got a CGM to track this new low saturate fat and low fat in general diet. 1) I've leaned up so much I look like a body builder with veins I've never seen before popping out. 2) My glucose was spiking up to 180 initially after even a cup of blueberries or other fruit. Or bowl of oatmeal. Systematically this has improved with a rare spike above 140. In the last two weeks I'm seeing numbers that have shocked me. Today my breakfast with vegan protein shake with cup of blueberries, three pieces of guac toast with egg white (not strict vegan) brought my glucose up to 108 and then it quickly went back to 86. 3) My overnight glucose is going in the 70s and 80s. I only saw these levels on keto after a 3 day fast. My morning levels after waking do increase in the 90's, but they were 105-110 before. It seems that keto completely lost my ability to process carbs. High fat/protein diet did nothing to improve my prior insulin resistance. It only masked it. Might be fine if I never planned on changing back to carbs in the diet, but again, you have to weigh long-term high LDL. Seems the low fat veganish eating has improved my insulin resistance. The last week I've had days where average blood glucose is coming in around 97. That equates to a A1c around 5.0.

@@RobCGilliam Wow, that's a great story and VERY similar to ours. Changes don't always happen immediately but my wife and I haven't seen high A1C in years and my blood pressure which was creeping up is almost never over 110/70... and I take NO pills. Like yourself fishing is something I've loved, especially mangrove snapper in the FL keys. For the first years of our vegan diet we didn't touch anything but now a few times a month we enjoy fish. Kidney function improve from the GFR number. Liver enzymes AST and ALT both improved. My AST went up to 47 on high fat keto meaning some fat in the liver. That reduced to 30. Blood Pressure sits at 110/75. Resting heart rate drops to 40-45 BPM. These concepts work it seems. Not to say others do not. But I have to cringe a bit when some high saturated fat eaters are wearing LDL's of 300-500 as a badge of honor. Have feeling in 5-10 years some are going to start seeing plaque buildup. I was just not willing to hand-wave the high LDL numbers as meaningless or even healthy.

I'm also struggling with eating so many animals. I love meat and I'm coming from keto. I suffer from lupus, hence the reason I'm attempting this "experiment", "lifestyle", what have you. I've also been an insomniac my entire life. Before anybody tells me to eat a steak, I assure you, I have. In the past 3 days I have consumed a brick of Kerrygold butter, countless eggs, three grass fed ribeyes, high quality wild caught salmon, bacon wrapped chicken thighs, two slabs of crispy pork belly, three grass-fed burgers. I cook all of my food and butter, duck fat, and bacon fat. What gives? Should I return to keto?
@fatrick9001

maybe relax. odd thing to start panicking three days into a diet change over STILL being bloated. what you were doing before wasn't helping by your own admission, maybe the cause isn't dietary. I don't think a large quantity of food is some kind of requirement for doing carnivore right, as it sounds like you are assuming? eat until you are satiated and no more. You may be struggling to finish meals from drowning every piece of meat in additional fat. I've done carnivore for a year and I never really added that much additional fat to stuff, I only add fat occasionally. Maybe that clarification is needed because keto people can be weird about "fat bombing" their meals and coffees. I mean a brick of butter? Just why? It's no commandment of carnivore to eat that much butter and fat.

If by a variety of food you mean plant fiber, then no. Humans have no cecum to speak of, no rumen, and a very short hind gut (compared to other primates. That means we suck at fermenting fibers into SCFAs. We do have bacteria that creates some, but they use about half of that for themselves. The ketone, betahydroxybutyrate nourishes our colon in much the same way as SCFAs. In "general" I think, might be the operative word. Are there exceptions? I would say yes. Keto is more rightly a lifestyle or Way Of Eating rather than a "diet" (diet=>where one stops at a certain point only to go back to a Standard Crappy Diet). Carnivore, a subcategory of Keto, can be both. When used as an elimination diet, it's very useful to track down which plant foods are problematic as you add them back one at a time. Once you know which plants to stay away from, you could potentially go back to being more omnivorous. I'm dealing with skin autoimmune issues. I'm enjoying Carnivore a lot. I can totally see turning this elimination "diet" into a Way Of Eating, especially if it keeps my symptoms from flaring up.
@johnsnow5264

As he says, this is mainly/only for certain diseases, such as severe situations like autoimmune disorders. Healthy people can get severely sick from this as they would if they would submit themselves to another extreme treatment like chemotherapy. So dont go and destroy your health just because a new crazy diet is hyped at the moment.

Add Jesus first. Tastes like chicken...but I’m not ready to do cannibalism seven days a week, just yet. Besides, grass fed sources are not always available at my local tribal grocer’s meat counter and as we learned from Mark on this web video, it’s good to mix it up. I use my 3.5 HP Blendtec’s top speed to rip apart the cell walls to get all the phytonutrients.

You don't have to do all grass fed. Walmart beef-in-a-tube is miles better for you than eating plants.

Eat the meats you can afford. Do nose-to-tail. A lot of organ meats are actually cheaper and you only need little amounts to help round out your nutrition.
