He is, and he is in basically every way except counting stats, one of the best 2nd basemen of all time. Yell all you want when he makes the HoF one day.
@scoutisabelle Жыл бұрын
But those counting stats are usually what the voters use. They don't vote on players who have a 5-10 year peak, otherwise Mattingly, Murphy and other former stars would get in. Utley may get in eventually, but it won't be until much later on the veterans ballot.
@lucasborja3797 Жыл бұрын
@@scoutisabelle the truth is, the hall of fame makes up criteria as they go, you see one and done’s on the ballot like Kenny Lofton and you think how does anyone make the Hall anyway, if they want counting stats then elect Nick Markakis.

Jeff Kent was far better than Chase Utley.... Not in sorry no way Chase
@Flyers487 ай бұрын
@@douglasruckle5007 Not remotely true. The actual stats show Chase was the clear better player in each of their primes. Utley has 2nd best career OPS in 2B history while being elite defensively. Kent just played a lot longer.

I'm a Mets fan who despises Utley to the point where if he cured any incurable disease i would still Boo that piece of garbage on the street. He's a Hall of Famer, the 5 Peak years and the fact that he was a complete 2nd baseman should get him in considering the position he played.
@lukechalmers71 Жыл бұрын
If you take into account city impact, then yes. The thing is Utley ranks with HoF 2nd basemen. Is he a first ballot guy? No and I say that as a diehard Phillies fan with PLENTY of bias. But maybe down the line.
@the-phanatic-99 Жыл бұрын
but he should be a first ballot guy, great defense, such a consistent and smart player, team impact and total career war of 64.5.

If you need to look at a players WAR to tell you if they are a Hall of Fame player then you don’t watch baseball.

@@KryMoore valid but compare Utley to Ryne Sandberg. Very very similar numbers with about 1500 less ABs

@@KryMoore also valid. Ultimately, I think Utley has a shot down the road, 3-4 years. He is far from a first-ballot guy but is in the conversation. I think injuries held him back and cut his peak short. He did win a ring and is a team staple, even to this day. While that’s not a deciding factor, it’s something to consider as a tiebreaker

Kent was a slightly better Hitter than Utley who played longer and was a terrible defender and average baserunner, while Utley was one of the best Fielders at 2B ever and one of the most efficient baserunners ever.

Utley isn't a hall of famer...if he's a HOfEr, then so is someone like Johan Santana...You're giving him too much credit for 5 years bookended by mediocrity. I can't wait for the Longoria talk...the bar for HOF talk has dropped immensely.
