This won't happen because offloading Luis Castillo saves roughly $24m; they currently have $16m to spend; $24m+16m = $40m - Alonso [$30m?] leaves $10m. Not much else to work with. The M's would be better off offloading Castillo and finding a cheaper 1B and then finding another piece needed.

Vlad Jr is comparable to Soto. Vlad has more power and both can't run and fielding wise, Vlad might have more value playing 1B and occasionally 3B... Soto has better OBP but that doesn't justify 200 to 300m gap between two players. Bet Vlad knows that and he is shooting for at least 500M plus extension and once he gets to FA, both NY teams might bid crazy yet again....
