Great video, Syifa. This video is way bigger than just about "safety in China" in a good way. Thank you for sharing your honest opinion and thoughts on Chinese political system. Democracy or communism, we all should respect each other instead of against each other. And you are absolutely right about what it takes to live in a different culture in comparison with traveling to a country. To live in a different culture, firstly you have to accept all the differences, maximize the positives and minimize the negatives opinions. It all goes down to one simple word "respect".

I have traveled to many parts of China and I loved all my trips, I was treated very well and I never felt that I was in danger but it is important to treat people with respect, I am from the USA and when I went to China for the first time I realised that the msm in the USA are lying to the American people about china. you can't judge the people in china with the USA stand point to start you are not in the USA you are in another country, learn about it and show respect and you will enjoy your trip in many parts of this beautiful world.

Sis Syifa, what u have said is exactly 100% similar within my head! The more I learn n understand China, the more I love Chinese culture. Last winter 2018, I solo backpacked Beijing - Harbin - Changbaishan, from big cities to countryside. I would tell my journey was not so smooth as I expected. On the first day in Beijing, my shoe sole came off. To think that I still have 2 weeks trip, it's totally disaster n unlucky from the start. I lack of Chinese language skill and it worst than kindergarten, but I tried to ask the youngs subway staff. We talked via translator app slowly about I need strong glue to attach the sole. 1 boy staff asked me to follow him, he also used his card access for us to get in n get out the gate. He brought me to small store and he bought me glue with his money. I couldn't say thanks enough n I bought him n friends a snack for exchange. That's just 1 story and I got more help from Chinese people during my 2 weeks travel. . There're so many security cameras in every corner of Chinese cities, even in small towns. It's actually government policy to install CCTV in everywhere. Foreigners who are first time here might be feel unsafe or terrified which make them think there are no such private life in China. "Big Bro" is always watching you anywhere n anytime. But truthfully, when I experienced it by myself n from watch vlog about foreigners who lives in China, it's totally safe n not bind their daily life. Since there are CCTV everywhere, now Chinese cannot just do illegal stuff as they please. People now aware about what they do and they feel restrain to do illegal stuff. Because once they caught in camera doing such things, police will easily find his/her identity n surely decrease their social points. I don't say China doesn't have bad people, something bad are relative and we still need to cautious while traveling. But the criminal rate in China has become lower since those CCTV installed. . But unfortunately, some of western media I have watched here in KZbin depict it in such negative ways n too hypocrite. Most of their reports are not entirely true from the facts. Because their news target is for foreigners out there who never set their own foot or have zero life experience about China. They just sit tight with their gadgets watching anti-Chinese propaganda by western media, and they swallow it without think twice. . About Chinese politics, I do agree with your statement! We cannot say democracy is always better than communist or vice versa. It's just suitable or not to one country. For such massive land with dozens/hundreds different ethnics (which have different mindsets, too), there need to have a supervision above all. It's surely not an easy task to make one to understand other, so there needs power of control to make them in one nationalist. I think Indonesia should be applied the same method like China does... "soft-dictatorship". It's not bad at all, as long as the leader is good and works for his/her people's sake. Just like Lee Kuan Yew had done back then. . Recently I watch Nathan Rich's videos in KZbin. He can give clearly logic n debunk what western has distorted about China. . Man.... sorry I'm rambling so much because this is the first time I know someone who shares the same idea about China with mine. There are a lot of misunderstand out there and we think we fully enough to comprehend about China. Anyway, saya juga orang Indo tinggal di Bekasi. Terima kasih banyak kak Syifa.

Salaam Syfia! thanks for sharing your journey & perspectives into life. I discovered your videos for the first time today after performing my Fajar/ morning salaat. I am so happy to discover you...i really admire your open-mindedness and your respect for the chinese culture, which i think is actually the inherent wisdom & generosity of one's heart to accept and appreciate things which are not consistent with one's own culture or upbringing. Another thing that i very much like about you is your modest outfits, especially your head scarves/hijabs. I like their fabrics, colors, patterns and the way you wrap them. As for the ideas, topics for future videos, i think you should definitely devote at least one of your future videos towards a tutorial about how to wrap hijab. if you are thinking that it may not be appealing to a huge population, true, but it would be very useful, helpful & meaningful to those who are striving to be firm and steadfast on the journey of dressing-up like a muslim, with the sole purpose of pleasing their lord, Allah-Almighty! Since i wear hijab for almost a decade now, i am always looking for different ways of wrapping them, especially since some methods of wrapping hijabs are not practical depending on the fabric, material of the hijabs; and yes, i can totally relate to your feelings of abandoning my hijab sometimes so i can just blend in the general population around me...( i live in Miami, Florida, United States) or sometimes just to avoid all the hostile & curious stares of all sorts... . Also, i'd like to know where do you buy your hijabs from? is it a website, a store, a bazar, etc. --- also, i'd like to know what is the original shape of your hijabs, that is, are they rectangle pieces of clothes, or triangles or squares. etc.

Salaam Syifa, I read an article online in which you said you're reconsidering hijab as people treat you differently and it's just a piece of clothing. It's truly impressive that you've been travelling with hijab and hijab isn't just a piece of clothing. It's more than that. It's a way of life. It's part of your identity as a Muslim. If people treat you differently then that's their issue and I'm sure you're positively influencing them and making them reconsider their thoughts and preconceptions of Muslim women. You shouldn't need to change to make them feel comfortable. These are my thoughts and I hope you appreciate them. I've also travelled abroad with hijab and loved the interactions with non-Muslims during this time. I considered removing hijab whilst travelling too but felt this would be a downward spiral for me in terms of my deen and imaan. Hold tight onto your deen x

Salam Syifa! Great video as always. I agree with you about there is no good way or bad way in societies. but hygene is not about procpective and believes. it is about health. so if a society have habits like spitting or not washing hands after using toilet it is something bad and others should try to rectify it...Unless this society can not afford to have healthy habits. like when I was in Ghana. many places like beaches and road side were treated like public toilets. which is something I didn't like. but I found out that many houses do not have running water not to mention toilets in their houses....so who can blame them for such behaviour? If I wanna fix this problem I should provide running water to their houses. telling them not to take leave outside wont change their attitude. about next topic. could you consider making a video about local food and popular dishes where you live??

Syifa, Thanks for sharing your experiences about china. According to you, I've known that china is a safe & peaceful country to visit at any time even mid-night even a single lady. It's out from my imagination when I think about my country, Nepal. If you've a plan to visit in Nepal in coming days, you've to be precaution wherever you travel & never try to go out from your apartment after evening if you're single(not with friends) because anything can happen in the street. you can feel safe only at Thamel area the city where you can find foreigners from different countries & up to 1 or 2 AM the city will be opened. Except Thamel other cities are not safe to visit after evening. I'm a man even I have to be precaution in every steps. if someone(pocket picker) knows I've 3-4 thousand rupees they'll start to follow me & looking for a good chance to attack. Although general Nepalese people are very much helpful, peaceful, honest & heartily respect the guests(foreigners) & Nepal is a beautiful place to visit in.

Terima kasih (Thank you) Syifa for your great videos. Being a Malaysian, I m eager to know how the Chinese public in general treat you as a Muslim, especially after reading so many one-sided reports, mostly from the Westerners who might not have even stepped their feet into China before, about religious bans towards Islam and the Tibetan Buddhism.
@xuliu80625 жыл бұрын
As a Chinese, I tell you that Chinese elderly and middle-aged people know nothing about Muslims. They have never touched the lives of Muslims, nor do they care about news and politics. Most of the Chinese in the younger generation are basically atheists. They believe that religion is a stupid opium. Negative views, religions fool people to gain benefits, but China has few negative views on Buddhism. Buddhism may have some superstitious beliefs, but Buddhists are very peaceful, they are not violent, they do not threaten others, but Muslims' views are very negative, because Islam is a rather intolerant religion. You see the same Muslims, because the Shiites and Sunnis can kill each other and cannot tolerate the infidels. A Muslim may be a good person, but a group of Muslims is not a good thing.

I read some comments. It is a pity that no one really understand what the culture difference means. Someone may say our safety is from the camera. Someone say the spit is because of our poor before. The real difference is our diversity culture. When you grow up in such a diversity culture, your inclusiveness will be very very high. This means almost no discrimination. The camera may increase the society safety. But even no camera, the main criminal in our society are robbery or blackmail, or something like this. But the murder is very few. Because in our society, the gun is banned. You can not even take a big knife with yourself on the street. For spitting, it is our real culture for thousand years, e.g. 唾骂,唾面自干. It is not because we are poor before. So don't use your culture to guess it.
