Cloning fruit, on the other hand, is perfectly ethical. That's where seedless fruit comes from. As someone who has texture sensitivity problems that make eating certain things difficult, seedless fruit is a Godsend. Now if only there were seedless kiwifruit... Also plants are absurdly easy to clone, since plant biology is, well, pretty darn weird. Also I wonder about if it is ethical to just grow organs in isolation, since stem cells (the things needed for cloning) can be gotten from, say, the heart, liver, etc. This makes cloning human embryos for "therapeutic cloning" especially cruel, since it's completely unnecessary and only causes suffering.

@@MargaritaMagdalena I feel the same. I'm also not sure I know enough about the subject to really have a completely informed opinion. Especially on the biological side of things. I think how people view the ethical side is largely dependent on what moment one believes a lump of cells becomes a person. Someone who believes this happens at the first cell division, will find it completely unethical to use cells of a clone at any stage. While someone who regards a foetus a person from the moment it's viable, might be okay with using cells of a nonviable foetus. Personally I am most worried about a slippery slope. Because it can lead to a point where you really don't want to go, it's better not to allow it at all. Even though you might find some uses acceptable. Because when you start with cloning, the line of what is deemed acceptable will shift. I think about how that went with euthanasia in my country. If someone is terminally ill and really suffering, I can understand euthanasia. But in my country the group of people who can request euthanasia has expanded since it became law 18 years ago. First it was only adults of sound mind, who were terminally ill and suffering. Over the years it has come available to teenagers, people who suffer from untreatable mental problems (for example very severe, chronic ptss) and to people with dementia (if they signed a euthanasia statement when they were sound of mind) and now they are discussing making it available to young children, who are too young to understand death or to make this decision for themselves. And I sometimes wonder what our society will deem acceptable circumstances for euthanasia in ten years time.

Is cloning wrong if you love the clone child and raise it as your own? As a scientist I can tell you that there are very little reasons for cloning animals. Large scale cloning leads to a reduction in intra species generic variability, making it very fragile. A species with low variability can be wiped out by a single disease. We have actually observed this with a bird species in the 20th century. To be strong and survival through hardship, as a species, we must actually maximize our variations and genetic différences. This means: Love thy neighbour. Reject racism.

At what point are we “made in the image of god?” It seems like after fertilization, the image is captured by the DNA. Shouldn’t this “image of God” be considered a stamp of approval for future replication via cloning? How does the stamp of approval change if a “chosen” baby dies and the parents decide to clone it and try again? If it’s God’s will that the baby died at birth, the baby will die soon after cloning. If it doesn’t, what does that say about your interpretation of “God’s will?”

Yes, of course, it is ethical - ethics are what we make them, a changeable code of acceptable behaviours; we must, therefore, rejoice in its modernity - and accompany our brethren on the path of non-judgemental exploration. If that is, humankind and indeed all material creatures with it are - truly - nothing more than some passing forms located in the ever-unfolding evolutionary products of biochemistry at work; and, moreover, it would seem from some advanced treatments of the recent developments in updating our church's teachings, that advancing this kind of fateful notion is a perfectly reasonable expression of the Catholic Faith, one that is best suited for these our times. So, let us say, that since we all now generally accept that 'Adam' is merely an imaginative mythical retro-projection of our current state in this process of evolution .. in becoming human (whatever that may mean - today) .. it follows that our specific active-manipulating agency must also now be fitted into the still-emerging glory of 'life' (gifted to us by mother earth). And if such accidentals do indeed eventually alter the substance of the whole, as science leads us to perceive it - in eliminating the weak or faulty, so that the strong and fit may thrive, well, we must also change our way of witnessing to the spirit of genius at work in our singularly odd kind of self-understanding aka ethically e.g. via the ineluctable modality of the visible, etc. One can almost see some such twaddle being advanced in the future - the quite close future, btw - as something like the magisterium of this or that ideological theologian's voice = merrily speaking through national bishops conferences, and such like. No doubt a few souls, here or there, might point out that it is totally contrary to the Catholic Faith, as understood across the centuries .. but who is going to listen to such cranky, disruptive, anti-revolutionary, reactionary, hyper-conservative traditionalists ... Keep the Faith; tell the truth, shame the devil, and let the demons shriek. God bless. ;o)
@TheLeonhamm4 жыл бұрын
@@rafaelcalvay1230 I do not, RC .. It is, however, how far too many 'Catholic' theologians - filled to the gills with their favourite Modernist ideologies - do tend to label the once received Christian moral code - as they busy themselves in trying to re-formulate it. Moreover, that sort of twaddle is what is often presented today, officially, as an adequate witness to the Faith .. and Catholics who do dare to hold to Sacred Tradition are deemed to be a combination of Pelagianists and worrisome reactionaries. I am a little surprised you did not recognise it. God bless. ;o)

There is a very common misconception that claims that through most of Church's history, Catholics have been a combination of Bible literalists and followers of a figure with absolute authority (the Pope), and only recent scientists and activists have forced the Church to change that perspective. However that's far from truth, Aquinas, in Middle Ages already claimed that the Bible contained metaphors, that God was incorporeal, immutable, infinite, and omnipresent(instead of the caricature of a bearded man). He even claimed that some parts of the Genesis should be understood in a symbolic way (when he address the topic of how is possible that the Genesis says that God made the man to his like and image if God doesn't have a body). Another example: the Apocalypse book was never understood in a literal way before the XIX century. ... so people doesn't have a good idea of how the Church changes and in which direction is able to change. I'm pretty sure the Church will always keep advocating for the human rights, including the human rights of the potential clones or even the cloned embryos.
I strongly disagree, cloning is a process of replicating life, not much different to the old fashion. If we believe in the concept of God and the soul, independent of the method of creation a human is a human, on the other hand the catholic defends the concept that we are all (except Jesus) born from sin; we could argue that cloning might be less sinful, thus ethically a better choice. There are commandments about fornication, but not about invivo human replication.

Whenever a patient requires organs to be donated which are hard to find He could have some of his stem cells Removed . remember that stem cells have the ability to differentiate into any kind of human cell thus form all tissues . we can genetically engineered a pig embryo so that it does not a produces let say a liver . As the Embryo develops the stem cells from human being could be injected in the pig embryo . The stem cells would develop inside the pig into a human organ . Cause the entire organ is made up of the person's own cell there is no chance of rejection of the organ by body . Also pig organs are similar to humans geometrically . Obviously there is a lot of more complication in it . But we are not creating a human pig hybrid . Only a portion of the pigs body is acting as a grow bag for the organs . After reaching sustainable age they could be slaughtered and the organ could be transplanted.

Father I have a question. What is the Church position on prostitution? I know is wrong but I think Saint Agustine didn't want to criminalize it
@IONATVS4 жыл бұрын
Neither did St. Thomas Aquinas. Their logic at the time was based on the virtue of Prudence: the wisdom to know what ills are within your power to address and the serenity to accept those those you can’t, leaving the issue to a future generations in a better position to defeat that institution. At the time, while Aquinas and Augustine clearly knew it was morally wrong, they also knew just how firmly rooted it was in the societies of Europe at the time, and that when the Church tried to ban them, the institution simply went underground the pimps would continue to prosper, and the prostitutes, who were often the victims of the institution, not truly culpable in its crimes, would suffer even further, either at the hands of an unmerciful “justice” system or in the secret brothels now unchained from any public scrutiny. Essentially, where it has been successfully eliminated it should remain that way, where it can be without causing further harm it should be, but where it is firmly entrenched, the Church must move more cautiously, starving it of its power over generations of changing hearts and minds before decisive action can be taken-this is true of many social sins: they are always evil, but if the devil has convinced enough folks that it is normal, it can be impossible to eliminate in the short term, and the best decision for the faithful is to simply mitigate its worst effects and eliminate the many other sins that feed into it first.
