I don't think so, dude. Fans are fickle. Remember when people hated Leon for sitting out and waiting for his shot? I've been a fan of Colby, sometimes his trash talk was pretty finny, sometimes a little cringe, sometimes both. I know he hasn't always had the smoothest delivery, but that final pre-fight presser was difficult to listen to, capped off by the comments on Leon's dad. It didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. But at the end of the day, Colby had respect because he was always a warrior in the cage. Unfortunately, that performance against Leon was pitiful, bordering on cowardly. You can't talk that talk if you're gonna fight like a scared bitch. If I was Trump, I would've been embarrassed to be there publicly supporting him

Not fighting for 21 months can have a bigger impact than you might think. As good as his training may have been, it doesn't fully replicate a real fight, because in training you wear headgears, shin pads, you go light to medium contact sparring, you lack the crowd, things that can get to you mentally. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he definitely was nervous, which messed up his whole gameplan. He still has that hunger within him, he just needs to fight more often to get himself back fully in to the game.

Chael missing the point. For the 1st time in his career Colby fought scared. U could see it in his eyes. His game had always been about movimg forward and applying relentless pressure (similiar to Khabib). Not against Leon. He played it safe. He fought like a guy who was afraid to get hit. The crowd saw it and that's why they turned on him. No way he's fighting Chimaev or Rakhmanov. He knows that he can't outwrestle them. Colby Covington's recent fight frequency is a cause for concern as he has only fought once in 2023, once in 2022, once in 2021, once in 2020, and twice in 2019. This is a far cry from the expected frequency of three fights per year for professional fighters. The question arises if he is even interested in fighting anymore, let alone being an active fighter. If Covington aims to be a champion like Glover Teixeira, who won the title at the age of 42, he needs to increase his frequency and show his dedication to the sport. Winning fights alone is not enough; he needs to fight more frequently to prove his mettle as a champion.

Colby has had four title shots, one being an interim that he never unified or solidified. He has not fought anyone in the top five and those he has he has lost to. Colby's eye was in, it appeared as if it wasn't because Leon was faster, stronger, more technical and a superior striker. The frustrating thing about Colby, aside from the stuttering talk, messing up his lines, not accepting defeat with grace or respect and saying disgraceful things is he didn't call out a top contender like Belal or Shavkat. Instead, Colby called out a forty year old Wonderboy, outside the top five, coming off a loss who has already been beaten by Belal. No one respects that. He could derail someones title shot but instead he chooses the path of least resistance and reward and looks weak in the process.

Colby hasn't fought "chaos style" since the first fight with Usman. He seems scared to take damage, injuries, get knocked out now to me. I don't think he can fight with a poke tactic it kinda has to be only forward mentality or he may as well not be there. He took Usman to a round 5 where it was tied up for a final round. He never should have changed his style since he already had a winning style he just had to stick with it, and now he's starting to get old.
@sooperd00p
@sooperd00p 5 ай бұрын
But Usman and Leon are not the same person. Would be really stupid to apply the same "chaos" method to a sniper like Leon. I'm not defending Colby's performance. Even Colby said he was thrown off my Leons footwork switching stances so often. Usman doesn't do that. Colby probably needs to work on adding more effective feints to his arsenal. The other problem with Colby is that he doesn't really have any friends among the UFC fighters, which makes it hard for him to learn from someone like Izzy for the feints or Strickland for the defense.

This may sound simple minded but i feel like it's easier as a wrestler to enforce your gameplan. Strikers have to dance between letting their skills loose and preparing for a takedown or grappling. For colby all he has to do is control the ring and push forward. Way easier said than done but Leon isn't a champ for no reason and he's less dangerous moving backwards. Also a failed takedown can turn into a grapple contest. This is my long winded way of saying idk why colby would fight so timid when it's more dangerous to do so. His gas tank must finally be compromised.

You kinda have to applaud/appreciate Colby’s ability to get so many people to show absolute glee over him losing. That means they care and that also means they completely bought into his bad guy gimmick. The last thing you want is for people to feel indifferent to you as a fighter. My main knock is Colby has kinda talked more than he has delivered. I think Conor is overrated as a fighter, but he delivered in a huge moment against Aldo. Colby needs that moment and the clock is ticking on that as each day and each new contender ladders up the rankings.

Exactly, sometimes I feel bad seeing just how much hate Colby has been getting cause it’s been on overdrive ever since the press conference last week, but at the end of the day this is Colby’s shtick and he ultimately wants people to boo him and hate on him. Colby made a big mistake not taking a warm up fight with a lesser ranked opponent after such a long layoff. You never want your return fight after a long layoff to be against a top 5 opponent let alone the world champion lol. Ring rust is real and it took Colby 3.5 rounds to shake that rust off “after he shook it off he looked better than Leon but by that point it was to late points wise” so ironically his free title shot after such a long layoff is what ultimately cost him a championship. What’s frustrating was knowing that Colby had the tools and style to win and him proving that knowledge in the last 2 rounds lol. Colby should of faught somebody like Geoff Neal or Kelvin Gastlem just to shake off the rust before challenging for the belt. I just think that Colby was so confident in him being a bad matchup for Leon that he said fck it. edit: one thing I did notice was that Colby looked real small compared to Leon, and was small compared to Usman. Why doesn’t Colby fight at lightweight? It seems like that would be his natural weight class if you compare him to other welterweights and lightweights. It’s something that he should of done a while ago. Imagine Colby vs Connor? Porrier? Gaetje? He would get that belt pretty easily in my opinion too. Islam gassed vs Volk lol. Plus Colby is used to grappling much bigger dudes than Islam, Colby vs Connor would be an epic ppv.

According to Colby he’s the greatest welterweight and didn’t have a single scratch after the Leon fight.

If Ian Garry wins his next fight, Covington vs Garry would be a great interesting fight. The Battle of the villain vs the newly abandoned guy! 😆 Whoever wins will please a large number of the spectators...

What do you think of Colby’s new team at mma masters compared to American top team

Been following and enjoying you for years Chael and I’ve never commented but figured I’d share my thoughts. The Colby videos in particular come off as you always defending Colby. You haven’t made your relationship a secret but it would come off as more genuine if you offered no bias analysis when it pertains to Colby. As it comes off now it’s as if you are his PR guy or his ‘mouthpiece’. He’s a grown man. He can defend himself and his actions. I enjoy your takes and never miss an episode. But in my opinion- specifically when it comes to Colby - your takes and ‘lens’ is non objective so we the viewers know what’s coming whenever you discuss him. Enjoy your show and everything you bring to the mma community. Just my thoughts. Merry Christmas 🤜🏾🤛🏼

Maybe that's because Chael knows behind the scenes sh*t like CC's promotional guy John and knows CC MAY rise above this IF he FIRES John! It may have cost him the fight! Honestly believe the dynamics and energy shifted with the presser. He needs to fire John who comes up with these asinine sound bites for the pressers. Hope CC realizes how much damage John did and may have EVEN cost him the fight because the WHOLE energy changed after that presser. Before presser, everyone rooting for America. After presser, everyone rooting for Edwards. Everyone needs to tell him to #FireJohn!
