If the job is in sales or requires cold calling it's probably one of the best things you can do to stand out... if you are actually good at cold calling.

This... people are afraid to cold call so they say it "doesn't work" so they can justify why they don't do it

I had an experience cold-calling which kind of worked. My brother lost his job, and he cold-called different places where they sold lottery tickets. Now, a few weeks later, they tried to call him, but got me instead. It turned out that they lost his resume, but had one that I submitted to them three years earlier, which, while they didn't have a job for me, they kept my resume on file. They then used my resume to call me, so I could give them my brother's number. They called him and he got the job. So cold-calling by both him and me resulted in him getting a job a while later, when they did need someone.

Wow, glad it worked out! I wonder how they lost his resume 🤔

I work in a very niche area with few competitors. I recently jumped ship and all the competitors tripped over themselves trying to hire me. I reached out to one of the competitors to see if theyd be willing to hire me (there was no official opening) and it worked.

I got my best two jobs in my career through cold calling, basically introducing myself to a company I knew I could sell for and it went from there. Im a sales professional though, I imagine it being much different in other industries.

Of course the recruiter youtuber would say cool calling wouldn’t work. No commission for the industry he is working in.😂

Cold calling works really well actually. As a corporate recruiter you wouldn’t know as your not involved in the process.

It depends. Are you blue collar or white collar?

Agreed, every job I’ve had both blue and white collar, has been through cold calls and e-mails. My most recent job, I literally sent an email and said that I will not stop applying until I get the position. They didn’t respond so I called them up, told them I had sent an email with my resume and that I’m very interested in the company. I think it just depends on how well you adapt yourself to whoever is doing the hiring and whoever answers calls and e-mails. Having an understanding of social engineering, how HR works, and the ability to be the perfect candidate is obviously the most important. But, if you’re unsure of your ability and experience, just keep calling and emailing. Even show up. Keep it cool and don’t call every day but try and get to know the people you’re trying to work with.

Cold calling always worked for me. One thing about it, filling that applications online. You are competing against hundreds and thousands of other applications. Cold calling or just showing up filling out an application at a place where they only take paper applications, your competition is a lot fewer which means you're likely to stand out

I wouldn't say it doesn't work. I've cold-emailed and cold-called companies without applying before and gotten responses from companies about where to send my info to check into me since I gave the effort. Even if you're not in sales, doing the activity of job searching is a sales-like activity, and when you are really trying to find a job as money is running out or you really want to work at that specific company, there's nothing stopping you from showing how passionate you are to work there and would even be willing to go on a free trial without pay to get in there. The same works with cold emailing. You use all the tools that are available to you even if it's not the most effective way because you just never know what the other person may say and you have as many times at bat as there are companies available in the world who could say yes to you.

i remember watching someone call and get in contact with the hiring manager through some verbal fenagling, but i don't know how effective this would be most of the time.

Truth is if you can’t be bothered to search for openings and can’t follow the simple “please apply online” instructions, why would a company hire you? On the flip side why would you work for a company that hires sporadically without formal recruitment? Anyone can walk in off the street and replace you.
