I learned a lot at the university, but I'm not sure it was a good choice. You know, I graduated from the university with honors and I had the top grades and results. I got a Master's degree and then a PhD degree in liberal arts. I graduated in 2018. No one ever wanted to hire me since. It was crazy. I did everything I could and still every company and institution rejected me. Never told me why. No feedback. Nothing. The government doesn't care if PhD graduates end up homeless either. It was a worthless degree in terms of getting a job. Only favoritism and nepotism everywhere (including academia). So, I can guarantee you that people with much worse grades (or even without a college degree) will get way better jobs than you due favoritism and nepotism. That's how it works. I'm not from the US btw. I'm from the EU. Good luck to all!

What’s your degree and which country ?
@lettuce13052 жыл бұрын
look mate sorry to break it to you, if you wanted to go all the way from Bachelors degree to PhD without any work experience, it better be a PhD in a STEM field or at the very least something like say Economics or Finance. My suggestion to most people is after you graduate from Bachelors degree, work in a professional environment for 2-3 years before you continue your studies. That way you can build your resume first before studying for a Masters degree.
@notthere832 жыл бұрын
@@lettuce1305 That's not necessarily THE way to go either. I did my master's in animation and post production right after the bachelor's and those 2 additional years allowed me to both understand things better and create a portfolio that landed me my first jobs. That set me up for a career trajectory much steeper than colleagues who either didn't do the master's or didn't make good use of that time.
@harryjamessmithmusic77622 жыл бұрын
@@lettuce1305 Well, I actually DID work in my field during my studies part-time for 3 years. But I can't work there anymore. There are no open job positions. But my PhD supervisor, who is the head of this department, backstabbed me purposefully. He knew I had the best qualification for the job and he behind my back hired people with much lower qualification. Never told me a word about it. But I found out eventually. I can't talk to him anymore. I cut him off my live completely. Thanks for the advice about STEM. But I actually graduated. I can't study STEM now , there is no time and money for that.

The college is VERY necessary! I am a 36 year old and in the last 10 years I’ve worked in Logistics field as a Manager. I had managed goods of about $200 million. In the last year I’ve moved from my country to Germany. I can’t have a decent job because I do not have a college education! They don’t call me for an interview! So, for the youngest people…GO TO SCHOOL! Even if your parents cannot pay your school, do whatever it takes to do it on your own! I had a lot of money during my working experience and I didn’t get to college (LATER), not because I am a fool, but because it is hard to do it at 30 years (you have a family, a way of life, a job, hobbies etc.) Not each one can be a millionaire without education!
@scratchpenny Жыл бұрын
His point is there are different ways to become educated and make a living. Formal education only sometimes teaches one what one needs to know to strike out on their own. But, yes, if you want to work for large corporations, having a bachelor's degree is a requirement. However, in the US, many millionaires have very little formal education beyond 10th grade. Think tradespeople, landscapers, handymen, etc. You can make a lot of money in those fields, and the barrier to entry is cheap. You just have to have the skills.

You can make a lot of money without having a college education, however, given the actual educative paths humanity has, college education is a required step for overall life success. College education (private or public) will expand your mind, which will help you resolve problems in a much effective, and faster way than if you did not had it. I believe college is a must, until a new and better mind expanding education growth method replaces it.
@thanos8792 жыл бұрын
"college education is a required step for overall life success". That's objectively false. Even ONE person having success in their life without college would make that statement false. You can't just make statements like that. And one of the most experienced people (Ray) on the topic just said otherwise in the video.
@AlejandroTorresMarco2 жыл бұрын
@@thanos879 Yes, I must recognize that the statement as it is, is objectively false. Thanks for calling this to my attention. The statement must be rounded up indicating that college education will get you there faster, in a much more effective way, and is highly probable that will enable people to be in a better position in which they are now without college education (learning = mind expansion).

Other than food, water and air, nothing is necessary in life. But college degree is now a normal thing to have. In today's world, if you can succeed without college, you will likely already know that by the end of high school. Otherwise just go to college like everyone else and figure out what you want in life.

There are clearly occupations that require education such as teaching or medicine. But I remember school very well and there were many kids who were already successful in life long before they entered College. Which is probably why some people succeed without a college education while others spend a lot of time studying and learning but never amount to much.

I absolutely agree with him. College is a good place for meeting new people, finding friends, relationships. If one has not decided what occupation they need for life, college may help to find it, but not always. There are things that are not taught in college, this can only be studied by experience. Of course, there are some professions, for example, doctor or lawyer, for which college is essential. If a teenager is sure that they want this career, then they should definitely go to college. However, sometimes an 18-year old is not sure what they want, and they choose the most “prestigious” degree to study for. Some change their mind after graduating, others live hating their jobs for years. And in my opinion, this is a huge issue of the society.

If you can get to top college and your parents able to pay for it, go for it. If you are really smart, got to ivy leage college but your parents can't afford, try to get scholarship. If you can get it, go for it. Otherwise, consider to explore your own path.

I think the best investment at this moment is before college. Invest in better education to the childrens. My opinion is, we need to bring to the public education clases like Moral, values, ethics, finances, Economy, equal opportunities or diversity, and all science like Robotics, AI ect. Best investments for our future as a nation or personal goal. Think 🤔 As a parent or investors…Are we investing in things that make us productive and or competitive for our kids or as a country for a better future?

College is great, but free or cheap online college courses are better to save money. Edx and others have accredited courses, even kids are getting degrees in top colleges now. But anyone can start their business without a degree if they have had someone teach them that skill. So no, college is not needed.

You’re a little disconnected from the reality of what’s going on in colleges and universities these days. I see students are severely in debt and five years of their lives they have fun and get super politicized and many of them suffer mental illness after the college.

It is well worth the time and effort if you can go someplace and get a real education with real connections (like Harvard, Standford, other ivies, Umich, Cal, USC, Northwestern, etc.). Those who attend those types of schools and take advantage of their peer networks are set for life. But if you are going to college to say you are going to college, then yes, it's not the best choice. There is a vast difference in quality between those top schools with advanced academic programs and everyone else. Many colleges are nothing more than degree mills with substandard programs that will not prepare you for the real world. However, there are still programs and colleges that are very much worth attending and graduating from.

#1 Don’t forget the things you learned in kindergarten and first grade #2 try to find your passion (mine was mechanical systems).#3 try to associate with people that hold your same interest (fortunately for me I had an uncle who was a tool and die maker, cousins and brothers who all held the same mechanical interest .We all spent a lot of time in that uncle’s garage,who would have us convert fractions into decimals before we could walk through the door). #4 after High School try to follow a path that will enhance your passion and give you the knowledge to pursue it (for me that was a small technical college in mid Missouri for my brothers and cousins it was the University of Missouri where three of them became mechanical engineers and one a business major . Mine was a two year associates degree in air conditioning,refrigeration and heating).#5 find that job where you can prove your knowledge, enthusiasm to learn, work ethic and all those things you learned in kindergarten. (For me that was the gas utility in St. Louis, Missouri where I spent 35 years in the Service department , doing work I truly enjoyed , sometimes 60 hours a week)#6 start saving and investing as soon as possible, Learning from people like Ray Dalio, Peter Lynch, Warren Buffett and quality people like this. It’s your money , you absolutely have to take an interest and hopefully a passion on how it’s invested.#7 help others pursue their passions, set positive examples ,share your knowledge with others and become a quality citizen. #8 in retirement, hopefully you have the money you need and the Health to pursue passions and hobbies. And again don’t forget those things we learned in kindergarten. Stay safe out there,Regards from the Saint Louis Metropolitan area and go Cardinals.
