The Dumpster boys are back for season 7, and this week we are talking about what could possibly be John Candy's last great movie, Cool Runnings! Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up it's Dumpster time!
Cool Runnings is a 1993 American sports comedy film directed by Jon Turteltaub from a screenplay by Lynn Siefert, Tommy Swerdlow, and Michael Goldberg, and a story by Siefert and Michael Ritchie. It is loosely based on the debut of the Jamaican national bobsleigh team at the 1988 Winter Olympics, and stars John Candy, Leon Robinson, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, and Malik Yoba. In the film, former Olympian Irving Blitzer (Candy) coaches a novice four-man bobsleigh team from Jamaica, led by sprinter Derice Bannock (Robinson).

Canada was also the first country ro do it for the summer olympics in 76. Thankfully history didn't repeat itself in the 2010 Vancouver winter olympics eh

It’s literally one of his head shots from the 80s 😂 There are NO good press photos or otherwise of John from Cool Runnings. Like, they only did the promo shots with the other guys. Even the original poster has an obvious paste in of John Candy. -Joe

Another early 90’s movie where Disney took a lot of the liberties with the “based on a true story” concept was ‘Operation Dumbo Drop.’ Recommend a review of that if you want to see Disney taking a Vietnam War story and making it consumable for a family audience. Plus it’s cast features Danny Glover, (the late) Ray Liotta and Dennis Leary

Joe, Hans Zimmer has been working on music in films/tv since the early ‘80’s. He’s most known for the Miami Vice Theme among many many other songs/soundtracks he has worked on/oversaw over the years. Guess it just didn’t click when recording. With thousands of soundtracks, I can see how it would slip. EDIT: Acknowledged my very incorrect info in the comments section after not only Joe pointed it out to me (Thank You by the way) but also after I reread the info myself after coming down a little from my medical cannabis high.

That’s interesting, never really took a deep dive on Zimmer. I guess it’s still “early” though no? He started really popping off in the late 80s/early 90s, so I think that’s fair. Cool Runnings is kind of sandwiched in among some bigger classics. Sort of cementing his catapult into becoming “the guy” in the late 90s/2000s Also, Jan Hammer did the Miami Vice theme. Hans Zimmer appears to have never worked on Miami Vice at all. Interesting to see he worked on the Buggles Video Killed the Radio Star, though! -Joe

@@MovieDumpster I stand corrected & was wrong about Han Zimmer working on Miami Vice. I got him confused in my brain with Jan Hammer. 😂 (To much weed over the decades I guess.) However Zimmer did work on The Buggles “Video Killed The Radio Star” as an Actor of all things. So he’s definitely been known for longer than I have been alive (Born in late ‘81). Very interesting IMDB career by what is documented there.

@@MovieDumpsterHe did this AFTER “Only The Lonely” (a very underrated John Candy Film, much more serious role), which I feel was him trying to spread his wings again after being typecast as “The Big Bumbling Nice Guy” for so long in movies. (Just a personal hypothesis that I came to recently after rewatching the previously mentioned film after 30 years after having a KZbin video remind me about the movie then it airing on cable a few days afterwards). Definitely worth tracking down if a fan of John’s work & want to see him tackle something a little bit more serious/romantic. Would make a great Valentines Day Episode.
