Is Cuties that bad? This has been the question to answer since it's U.S release on Wednesday. Director Miamouna Doucoure has been receiving death threats since the trailer released, which has earned 1.8 million dislikes on KZbin. I decided I'd seek out the answer to this question and today I watched it, unfortunately.
I purposefully chose not to include any of the disturbing scenes.

Thanks for clearing this up! I’ve seen a lot of outrage over this film, but mostly from people who haven’t seen it, so I had my doubts that it was really that bad. I just assumed people were jumping to conclusions for the sake of having something to be mad about. So I’ve been really interested to find someone who has actually seen it. So thanks for taking one for the team 😂 Good to know the outrage (this time) is actually justified

Yeah pretty much.. The movie would be actually pretty good if they left out some of those over-the-top scenes, especially the ending scene.. If that wasnt there I think people would be a lot more tolerant for it and actually pretty good, not like really good but a good average especially because those young girl actors managed their acting really decently, and by that I dont mean the suggestive dances but the actual acting

@@NotEvenDeathCanSaveU nah. People would still find a reason to have some outrage. Also, the thing people seem to skip over is that the young Muslim girl wasn't being parented properly because her dad was in another country bringing a second wife home, and the mom was just a wreck from hearing that news AND needing to prepare a room for the second wife. Add to that, the kid was teased because she was called a little kid(which she was), so she sought validation and guidance through the internet videos of grown women dancing. The dance team she joined was doing regular nickelodeon show dances before she brought the stripper dance routine to them.

Thanks for making this. I have not engaged too much in conversation about this film for the exact reason, that I have not seen it personally. I can't bring myself to watch it. However, I was definitely going to to be completely blown away if you said it was not as bad as we expect. Unfortunately we now live in a world where kids are being sexualized and groomed for pedophilia, and adults are being groomed to believe it's ok, that it's a "sexual orientation" that should be accepted. I'm just speechless over the whole thing. You did a great job with this review, and your stuttering at times due to the same lack of being able to even verbalize what you were thinking, actually spoke volumes.

All the scenes all the acting and actors, idk how about you but this doesnt just look like an accident.. If so this was her point then well.. I think she got what she wanted after all, that being people all around the whole world talking about this, not even the most famous movies of all times got this much attention lol

I believe the #cancelnetflix push was to send a message. I believe it's done that. Personally, I advocated for awareness & removing the movie from Netflix. What will the outcome be? I don't know. The fact that Netflix lost money overnight and still defended it was ridiculous. I read something about the original story itself having a good message, but the Netflix portrayal ruining it. I want to look into that. I have a lot more to say about this movie being eye candy for pedophiles and grooming children for sex abuse & trafficking which is the biggest pandemic of our time, but I'll stop. Thanks for your review.

From what I understand this is the same movie that played at Sundance, so Netflix didn't have any part in the filmmaking. Like I say in the video, I believe the filmmakers had good intentions but the direction they took was misguided and ultimately ruining. But all Netflix did was purchase the rights to the film for distribution. Anyways, love you mom!

I think the film intended to make you feel disgusted, but I also think a documentary or an animation form would have been better for the sake of the kid actors. However the moral outrage when this movie was released to merica just exposes Americans hyspocrisy for being mad at cuties but allowing kids to wear makeup, twerk and do all the things cuties did on social media like insta and tiktok that they are normalising ?? I agree with 15-16 year old actors being more appropriate, but I see a problem with people saying adults should have played the roles like how adults usually playing younger than their age roles in coming of age and teen movies. The problem is that when you have adults acting teens then doesn't it encourage thinking of teens and under as adults? Like 'yeah they were underaged in this movie but in real life they're an adult so sexualising them is fine ?' Its a little dissonant imo

The cause of backlash on this movie is two fold. One is from conservatives who are just as emotional and misguided as SJWs, and two, the highly restrictive puritanism that North Americans inherited and has passed onto liberals and conservatives alike has totally warped their world view. This movie is about a real issue regarding preteen girls, how sexual repression is a real thing and no one talks about it. I went into it thinking it was gonna be a crazy pedo fest. Turns out there's the expected twerking that everyone is in uproar about, and a solid plot about a coming of age of a group of girls that come from broken homes. To me this just goes to show the fragility of first world people and how unprepared they are as a society to deal with a girl's sexuality. The worst part that most who do the bashing have not even seen the movie, and those who have are so fixated on the "erotic" scenes, to me it screams out proyecting insecurities. "Takes one to know one" comes to mind.

Diversión HNC LTDA at first I disagreed with you because of my own opinion and personally I didn't have sexual repression at 11 (same age as the character and actor(?)) but then I remembered that not all experiences are the same as mine. And tbh you're right. Sexual repression in preteen is a thing but is not thought about because of the connotations that children are innocent. When they're not especially when we all have social media, the Internet, friends and family to tell us things. And at an age to be curious, kids are gonna find out then be interested. It's a curtain society doesn't want to open. Especially when it's trendy and admirable to some when they see others like that. It's not like dressing a certain way or doing certain dance moves will harm the kid. It's more society's fear of the kids attracting actual predators. The kids are gonna grow up and not everyone suddenly becomes mature once they turn 16. These kids who do these sexual dance moves are still going to like stuff 11 year olds will enjoy. They just have more freedom of the Internet. (Tbh I'm like 16 and I still watch kid shows and I have no self confidence but I still desire the confidence to dress and dance like that cos it looks awesome). So yeah. I agree with you. Personally I haven't watched this movie (watched the trailer) and from all the things I've heard. It just sounds like things that's been happening already. Bruh even I've seen like early 2000 movies where boys were stealing their older brother's porno/lingerie whatev mags and showing them off to their friends. Remember how people believed that showing off your ankles was fashionable. This is just evolution of the mindset. Let's be honest here. ADULTS are more scared of the attraction of pedophiles than kids growing up cos that's the inevitable. This movie is just spreading awareness for many different meanings. Maybe sexualising kids is wrong. Like yeah if they were 6. But at 11 years old. I was at secondary school and were being taught sex ed. you can't tell me that no 11 year old had friends or researched stuff. And even if the actors should be older, even if the producer's reason to make this film was because she was uncomfortable at the idea of children's innocence being taken too early (more on that later), what difference would it make when the movie focuses on young people. Making the actors older is just to please the older people who are uncomfortable. Because you know what it is the harsh truth. Is social media taking away a child's innocence? That's very vague. And society only likes to focus on the sexual side. Like what about death? Our innocence is taken at the fact that nothing lives forever, when our grandparents die. Bullying? Pain? Being told that we aren't allowed to have a boyfriend, or being shipped with someone. Social media is just speeding up the inevitable and tbh it's letting us be more aware of the true dangers. You're not allowed to talk to strangers? Why? Because they can hurt you? Why? How? Don't tell me a child's innocence won't be taken once you answer that second why and that how. Maybe some will stop once they heart "hurt you" but still their innocence is taken once fear is registered in their mind. I mean it is human to fear so we can stay alive. And the idea of innocence is so vague. Can never stop the inevitable. But being aware of the fears that keeps us alive will help especially knowing why and what to look out for. In this case it's the idea of predators that instils fear into us that we shouldn't gain attraction. Thank goodness now for the phrase "dress is not a yes" and the push for those predators (both male and female) that the victim shouldn't be blamed.

Diversión HNC LTDA 2) young kids see all these sexual dances like twerking as a fun and popular dance. They don't see it as a dance that originates from a sex or as a way to show off certain body parts. Like idk is the shimmy considered sexual? Like I made the link when I was watching this ancient China drama and the consort was trying (failing) to seduce her Emperor and one of the moves was the shimmy to ya know flaunt her stuff. And ya see. Children aren't being corrupted until they know the reason cos it's naivety what they have and ignorance. And we all know those two things = innocent. And having knowledge is not innocence Concerned parents shouldn't be forcing them not to do those dances but rather explain why it makes THEM uncomfortable because it reminds them of sex and should teach them about protection and storks does not deliver babies. Tbh there should be less social stigma for teenage sex but there is a law for a reason. It's more like curious legal kids should have the ability to get protection with no shame or fear. And if they're scared they obvs won't ask for help. And those who are rebellious will obviously do something they're told not to do And lastly it's a psychological thing if they're a pedo. People always think of their deaths but they should be arrested (if they committed a crime) and go through therapy and support. Because there are minor-attracted-people that can't help what they're feeling (some are even disgusted st their thoughts) but don't act on them. These type of people need therapy and obviously people will judge them and even stay away for them which makes them not what to get treated because they don't want to come to terms with it sometimes or to expose themselves. Not saying that pedophiles are good. Just that some are misunderstood and we can't have one statement as we have to be aware that not everything is the same. But we're still allowed to be scared. Like I heard this story of this prisoner who cut of his d*ck twice because he knew he will abuse again. Sorry to diversion cos you're the one most likely to see this rant. And thanks for making me think about this. Cos at the start I disagreed with you and tried to find counter arguments or even a question that will make sense and will let you explain to me hoping it will come to a block where your argument didn't make sense. But at every thought I had, it was too easy for me to disagree with myself as I thought harder about reality. To overcome my internalised bias and to hopefully think more objectively. #ilovesherlock

@@beardoll6945 Sexual repression in the modern age shouldn't exist. As a matter of fact I've had some scandinavian friends comment about how weird it is for Americans to get all upitty about sex, they think it's weird to have parents overly involved in their kids' sexual lives. And I agree. Sex is treated as something inpure and forbidden... a byproduct of old religious stigma from colonial times! All this repression ends up in a society full of perversion and frustration, so it would be wise to have people come forth and start debating about this and not sweep it under the rug. If you're 16 then you have a lot to look forward to and a lot of thinking to be done... but one good piece of wisdom I can share is to treat men, women and children as people who deserve empathy, and not as things to use and discard when no longer useful.

i think it's just a whole new culture permeating thru the world now, in most parts of the world, you have to be 18 to have sex, but in america 16, the definition of minor by age is starting to get lower and lower, i call it a negative evolution of society. if you question the sexualization of children in other cultures, first question your own regulation for legal age to have sex. it's all perspective and cultures
