Season 8 Preview The Playin’ Guts formula, through the ruthless oversight of Sam/Mo (and sometimes Zo), has been well refined with an 8-episode season and two resets at Episode 4 and Episode 8. Each Team gets one draft pick in each of the 1-2-3 slots for Episodes 1-3 and Episodes 5-7. The previous-season champion chooses draft order. Each team can be blinded once per season if agreed upon by other two teams prior to an event. Episode scoring remains: 4 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, and 0 points for 3rd place. There is 1 bonus point opportunity for episode finish: 1st place - flawless victory (FEV); 2nd place - never last; 3rd place - 1000+ points. There is 1 bonus point opportunity for correct Call Your Shot (see below for new weighted Call Your Shot). Accepted new rules Each team gets one first-event weighted Call Your Shot pick per season (2 bonus point possibility) and disqualification of your competitor in an event eliminates bonus points earned or opportunities for that episode. Rejected Chicken bones in Joez’s throat, each team has to earn a reset, decimal scoring, Super Seducer bonus, Zach’s competence at keeping track of Call Your Shot’s Tune in next time for Power Ups… Playin’ Guts Seasons Overview Team Joezack - 4 championships Team Jake - 2 championships Team Jimmy - 1 championship Crag Brag winners - No one cares Note: Team Jimmy has never been solo last place in a season. He is very proud. Prediction Team Joezack will win another Championship after repeating the same draft order as last season. Team Joezack will draft well from behind-as always-and will make aggressive (some say reckless) decisions that work out splendidly. Team Jake will rebuild from Season 7 after he learns to stop choosing tiny boys over already grown girls for a close 2nd place season finish. Which leaves, Team Jimmy…it finally happens. After attempting to over-orchestrate the choices of the other teams, he makes numerous unforced errors with his Call Your Shot picks, trades away draft picks for nothing again, and loses confidence in his ability to draft by over-thinking colors and events to finally finish in solo last place. One Joezack fan’s thoughts on last season's (Season 7) Watchin’ Playin’ Guts: Season 7 Recap Team Joezack with a dominate wire-to-wire win! That’s 4 championships in 7 seasons-might we say a Golden State Warriors-esque dynasty. They draft well from behind; they draft well (enough) from ahead; they set up the draft the way they want it. Joezack takes calculated risks that work out beautifully like putting their foot on the throat of Team Jimmy by also choosing 1st place in the season finale Call Your Shot (CYS). As a Joezack fan, I am over the moon. I’ve been a fan of this team from the old days when there was no Joe and they were just a ‘zack’. At that time, they were relegated to the 3rd pick each episode. But look at them now, the underdog has become the powerhouse. They are the Gonzaga of Playin’ Guts (except they win championships). The camaraderie between the co-GMs; the trust they have in one another-they are in lock and step. It’s really not fair to have a team made up of two fellows who both draft so well from behind. They are dominant and there’s no end in sight. Team Jimmy continues his never solo last place streak for the 7th straight season. He is in esteemed company-the Toronto Blue Jays went 10 seasons (from 2014-2023) without getting solo last place in the AL East before ending that streak in the 2024 campaign. There’s just three more seasons and then Team Jimmy to be in such esteemed company as this very well-respected Jays streak (and at least he’s well-surpassed the current Mariners streak of 5 never solo last place finishes). His strategy to never finish solo-last is working to perfection. Thinking like a 54-percenter, he drafted Mike in the season finale (an equal participant in the much-discussed high-five) rather than take the high-risk, high-reward pick of Christy. For Team Jake, this was a clear tank season. No one could purposely have played as bad as he did this season while actually trying. Even the 2024 White Sox won their last two series of the season, but Team Jake said no-we’re placing all our chips on Tiny Purple Boy and a high-five that can’t slap an actuator-and we are losing in dramatic fashion. And for that, I applaud his decisiveness. Although there is no benefit for tanking or rebuilding, Team Jake clearly thought this was the best strategy. We all know he’s a first or last type of guy. “If you ain’t first, you’re…Team Jimmy.”
