Nice review. I agree on almost everything, except scaling. I want to feel a sense of progression. If I am struggling to say clear the Den of Evil in Hell, I can come back to it after leveling up, and finding better gear, or equipping my merc to deal with say cold immunities. Then it becomes so rewarding that you can finally clear an area. With linear progression the feeling of reward is lost. And therefore itemisation will also always have to scale. Your problem of items getting to the billions of damage is partly because of this scaling. The same if I clear normal. If I come back and just fool around in Act 1 I can kill mobs so easily now, where before I struggled. It feels rewarding!

The struggle and come back mechanic as you refere to from diablo2 den of evil, is accomplished by paragon levels in d4. areas will scale to your base level, but your paragon levels will make you outscale early areas.

The price of a Diablo game is no concern to me. As long as it's a box price. Even D3 I played for 250 hours before they finally mede it fun to play. And many hundred hours after. I expect D4 to be the same.

Yeah i think people going crazy over the price have been living under a rock. AAA titles are expected to be around this cost.
@AG-ld6rv

I'm all for games increasing in price, because they take so many years these days to make. There has to be room in the price to pay for costs and then make a nontrivial profit. However, it's painfully obvious that every little step in many AAA titles is optimized effectively by corporate psychopaths (or people behaving that way, because they care about their bonuses/raises/promotions so much). Having three different purchasing options and selling the ability to use the game on launch (People who bought the right level get to play something like 2 days earlier than the bottom tier) is such horseshit. Just make a single, fair price and treat everyone equally. These concepts are lost on corporate psychopaths. They'll retort, "But I can extract an extra x million bucks! What do you mean treat everyone the same?" as if common sense morality is alien to them. Blizzard isn't a ragtag team of passionate, nerdy programmers anymore. It's a large, complex corporation likely with 1000s of people hired to deliver any one game, and the nerdy programmers, who often are more just, are ordered by corporate suits to program BS code to implement horseshit policies uncovered in marketing mumbo jumbo suit suck offs to earn more money. A corporation's #1 operating principle is to make as much money as possible without going so far that people boycott them. It's a terrible way to live, and I could see some people working for Blizzard losing hope and excitement as they program the next BS system of artificial classism, the next BS system to influence a person just to pick the top option, the next system to represent being cool in that universe at a price rather than being cool coming from in-game dominance over a fair playing field.

Scaling levels felt awful. It makes the entire world feel like a video game rather than a real world with certain areas you must overcome while others, you 1-shot everything having already overcame it. It's for ultra casuals so anyone can play with anyone else anywhere in the entire game and still get decent experience / loot. When I joined the party of my level 3 friend, and we were doing about the same damage to creatures despite me being level 25 with legendaries, it just felt like dog shit. I should be able to power level my friend and be wicked strong in the content he has to do. It's an unfixable problem as they made the entire game this bland MMOish do whatever style. And if you collected Lilith powerups, as you level up, the amount of stats added become more miniscule as a percent, so there especially, you literally become weaker as you level up on your second playthrough. You go from 1-2 shotting things to those exact same creatures needing 4-5 hits to kill as you leveled up. This problem was in Oblivion too, such a bad problem that people made mods to restore the scary world of Elder Scrolls to what it should be. You're level 3 and see a giant or hell demon? You better run, because you will NOT win that fight. Or you can play it in brainless mode and beat the main questline, massacring giant infernal beasts with a tiny sword you started with. This all links back to a feeling of beating the game as well. You want to get to a point where you can kill hell mode player 8 fairly easily and then think, "Well, I've beaten it. I can continue to farm if I want, but I am pretty much maxed out." With this fluid leveling junk and the infinite content zoomer games, you are always pitted against an exactly tuned creature (with the same exact look of creatures you were facing 40 levels ago), and it makes the entire world feel so fake and plastic. I'm a grown up with big muscles right now. IRL, if I got into a cage match with toddlers, I beat them all up easily. This is how real life works. Such a system makes the experience glaringly feel like a video game, one for zoomers no less. Just total equity in everything, always having a challenge so you can zoomer play the game for 5000 hours never getting a sensation of victory, just bland garbage. TBH, I am only going to play D4 because of friends. This system is a major dealbreaker for me. There's many other problems like every city feeling soulless / me not connecting with any characters. It felt like everyone I talked to had a possessed friend and I needed to go into a cellar to exorcise it. D2 and even D3 (complimenting D3, I know) had much more personality in each town. You got to uncover real characters and see them evolve as more information came to light. D4 it's like there might as well not be a world or towns or NPCs. You may as well just drop the MMO guise and just give everyone greater rifts to mow down exactly tuned creatures mindlessly for 8 hours a day, because that's what the world feels like anyway.

Yes, I had exactly the same experience. Level scaling basically undoes the level system. Then I ask myself, why have a level system in place after all? New skill points are already unlocked by other means than leveling (renown system in d4). Then why? Because of bigger numbers? But even that might not be the case because as they explained in one of their videos about the armor scaling, monsters at higher level will have more armor which results in a decline of growing damage numbers. Hence, their way of dealing with gigantic damage numbers as they happened in D3. So basically everything always just scales to the exact same level, no matter how far you progress.

I think there is a massive overemphasism on how impactful this really is. I illustrate in the video multiple times that scaling excists in all games like this, but its hidden. Every new area you go into will be slightly higher level than the previous one, meaning you will run into stronger and stronger enemies as you level up, and the way to deal with it is with new skills and abilities. You do bring up one point though, as youre saying it feels wierd to group up with your friend, and you not feeling the "im boosting my friend" part, however, you were lvl 25. You were not lvl 50 with a ton of paragon levels. The feeling you are describing will be achieved once you have max level, and from there you will gain additional power and gear vastly outpreforming the initial scaling areas. As i also mentiuoned in the video, i think scaling areas has way more positive sides than negative. Dont forget that you were lvl 25. You are far far away from what power you are supposed to have.

I think the point about casual players buying gear cause they simply don't have time is spot on. Like everytime I see people offering gear for like high runes, I go.... man I played the game since it came out and I never seen this to drop. I do remember that Blizzard increased the drops for limited time before the ladder came out I believe, so I would welcome that more than random sites being pushed via google ads telling me to pull out my credit card....

"What do you expect a game from 2023 to look like? It is not going to look like Diablo 2." Well, it can look and sound more like Diablo 2 Resurrected. You are the Project Diablo 2 guy. You give builds season after season on a Diablo game running on Diablo 2 graphics. You know what a Dark Hunter getting hurt sound like. The developers made Diablo 4 look more like Path of Exile and Diablo 3 not Diablo II Resurrected, a game released in 2021, that showed you modern graphics on an art style with harder lighting, sharper definitions, while everything in Diablo 4 looks and sounds warmer, rounder, safer, and that is the keyword: safer.

I mean D2R graphics with todays standards are still kinda outdated, if you look at what UE5 is capable of D2R is anywhere close to that. If they would go with art style which would be similar to D2R people would complain the game looks outdated, you simply can't please everybody.
@Futureal81
@Futureal81 Жыл бұрын
I think the d2r graphic is outdated. Its made in this old style on purpose to be a step inbetween the old and gold way of playing d2, and the modern arpg games. The whole point of d2r is not to make d2 look prettier, or for Blizzard to be nostalgic and award their old school players with new graphics and mechanics in d2. Its all about preparing your eyes and game mechanic receptors for diablo 4. Thats why you see every new mechanic in d2, being a "light" version of "moderation" of actual diablo 4 mechanics. Graphics, faster leveling, more emphasism on group play, scaling levels (terrorised zones). Its all d4 preparation, make no mistake.
@Araturion

With lvl scaling every mob can drop gear that's good for your lvl. The first dungeon can still drop good gear even if your lvl 40. Selling boost becomes harder because the higher lvl player can't kill mobs faster than the low lvl. You can play with friends that are lower lvl. In diablo 2 you have limited options for farming gear at high lvl and it gets boring to run pits, ancient tunnels, arcane sanctuary and baal runs over and over again. 99% of diablo 2 is irrelevant att lvl 85. There's more positive thing than negative with the lvl scaling.

serious question: with level scaling, why have a level system in place after all? skill points? can unlock by other means, which is already done in d4 (renown system).

Hey I just watched entire 1 hour KZbin video and it was worth it. I myself have not played D4 or watched any content yet but according to your saying it seems like an interesting Diablo game. I got some questions regarding your D4 playthrough. 1) during your first playthrough leveling from lvl 1 to lvl25 , What were your thoughts on how itemization scaled and how impactful it was till you reached lvl25.For example in diablo 2 if u find lvl 3 socketed hat and used chipped sapphires on it for extra mana, for how long u you would use that hat. 2) do you think Diablo 4 endgame gear would purely be focused on “uniques ,legendaries “ etc as best in slot gear. Or it’s gonna be Like magic rings or rare rings best in slot. Like in diablo 2 most builds some magic ,rare items were part of BIS for some builds. This would make some1 make an goldfarming character and do gambling or go to normal / medium difficulty and hunt for it specifically. 3) how was the affix /suffix rolls on magic / rare items in Diablo 4? Was finding something like 3% to maximum health with 4 sockets on shield common or extremely rare to find. 4) also was there any poppables/clickable mechanic in diablo 4 just like it did in Diablo 2? If so, how was the drops? Was it bad as compared to killing monsters for loot. 5) how did it feel like finding your first legendary / first unique? Did it feel like it was something special u felt like we d2 players did back in the day . That’s all I gotta say. I will wait for Diablo 4 endgame and see how holy grail would look like.
