"Theres no insentive to go down a level and restart at 1" This is somewhat false since the reason for it is that there are certine moves that can only be learned at lower levels This actually allows for highly customized attacks

That's definitely a mistake on my part. Just before Hacker's Memory came out, I returned to this game to tackle the post-game bosses with some of the recommended Digimon (like UlForceVeedramon) and realized the value behind dedigivolving. I still miss the great stat gains you could get like in World DS, but it's still something. My bad. lol
@Hynotama4 жыл бұрын
That's not all. Degenerating and digivolving increase ABI which is a requirement for some evolution trees. Beelzemon for example has some obnoxious ABI requirements. And Beelzemon Blast Mode has a ridiculous requirement of 100 ABI if I remember correctly. I even had to play around with degeneration and re-digivolution a couple of times to get the ABI requirements for my Cherubimon(s). Fortunately, PlatinumSukamon-> Etemon-> PlatinumNumemon and Tactician USBs are a great way to grind heavy amounts of exp in short periods of time.
@scottishboy1123 жыл бұрын
@@MykonosFan Forget the great stat gains, in World DS Leomon kinda drew the short stick. There you could degenerate from Monzaemon into Leomon but you could also immediately digivolve back if you already met the friendship requirement I think it was. So you digivolve again and degenerate... only to find Leomon has LESS stats than he started with. Rinse and repeat and you can actually have a Leomon with 1 in every single stat. I actually did this and I don’t recall there being any other Digimon in that game with such a fatal loop. XD

how does it "take away from the game" when you expected something thats development heavy and adding a multiplayer isn't? if it wasn't there you still wouldn't get your pipe dream we are talking about new voice recordings and tons of additional text for a game franchise that required a petition to even come to the west, some of us actually have friends and want to play with them

mykonos saying "its weird hearing digimon characters say hell or damn" and implying dark themes being abnormal in digimon really confused me at first, as the digimon anime was filled with all sorts of dark themes and cussing, but then I remembered that most people grew up with the dub. Its so weird knowing my first experience with digimon is so radically different then other people's purely because I watched the sub instead.
@MykonosFan3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m used to my Digimon characters throwing out a bunch of dumb jokes haha. Not that it being darker is a bad thing of course! It was a bit of a shock for me at first but was weirdly normal soon after.

@@MykonosFan I guess I get that. The digimon anime (atleast the sub) can get suprisingly mature and complex and dark. Even in adventure and 02, darker and more personal themes were explored in the sub, especially regarding ken. I agree with what you say about the game, it's fun, it has the same mechanics as the Story series, it shows that, it was made with love, and the story is one of the best of the franchise in general, and while the story takes a long time to get to the interesting point, i think that this decision was made on purpose, to get us more engage with the characters of the story... The problem is that, it makes you want to make the main Protagonist have his own personality because of how the story is manage. I also miss the reward for de-digivolving your Digimon, of having bonus stats, it got to the point in which i asked "Why im bothering other then getting new moves? When in the others i got as a reward more then just new moves to basically begin from zero". Before going allow me to give you a fun fact, this is the first Digimon material to use words like hell, outside of Japan... In Japan, they begun to use this words since Digimon Tamers, heck at the beginning Yamaki(the man in charge of goverment agency hypnos in Tamers), he was a machine of saying hell... You can thanks subtitles for this little fun fact.

What interesting timing; I was considering adding this to my JRPG collection (my primary genre). Although... looking at mechanics, I may pass until a good sale happens. doesn't look like it mechanically does anything new or interesting, and hey, i've already played the best monster-catching JRPG out there, also known as Final Fantasy 13-2 (I kid, but its mechanics are wonderful despite the baggage from the first game). I may play this, but it'll probably be far down the backlog, sometime after Megaman X Command Mission. That said, thanks for your review. Bad as it is to say, I had almost forgotten about Digimon. I started playing this and was dissappointed. It's really text heavy, a messy story, no digital world and a lot of back tracking the feel I get is that this was a detective game that was turned into a digimon game. Also, if you drift of in the story, you can get lost. You will miss where to go to and nowhere can you find it again. In chapter 5 there were a couple of choices, in which there were 3 options, but it was just one full one sentance. The good thing: THe digimon. I love finding out new digi-volutions and trying to get them. But I miss a reall world to walk in. I game is just a bunch of quests that make you go from A to B. And sometimes even teleport you there. WHy do we get teleported there in some and need to find the person in others. And when it started of with the key-word thing, I had high hopes: O maybe I can get something later with a key-word. Yeah no, just find the correct person of the 3-6 people with a lock and it's done.

My opinion: The game is not worth it. Source: I've been a digimon fan since I was a kid. Played every game (including Hacker's memory). This one was the best of them all. Loved the animations, the roster and some of the mechanics. But even then, Cyber Sleuth was just a plain anime with an awful ending. Can you enjoy them? Totally, indulge yourself. It's just that Digimon games can't compete with other games from the same generation. Graphically or mechanically.

That's the biggest issue I have when trying to talk about Digimon with people who really enjoy games. I grew up with the PS1 games, enjoyed Cyber Sleuth and eventually enjoyed Next Order, etc. As a fan I like aspects of a lot of these games, but stepping back and removing that...a lot of them aren't very good. Or at least are obtuse or grindy enough to have too much friction to recommend to non-fans. I still need to finish Survive but even so far I'd have trouble recommending it to non-fans.
