One of the writers happened to be at the showing I attended and he said it was a $200 million drug movie, so that's pretty much confirmed. Also the scene where he fight outside of his body was actually from their original spec script (except for fighting a different baddie), and it's what got them selected to write the movie

I agree with most of your sentiments. Though really it's said in the film they only teach it to people who they are confident won't go evil and pull from the dark dimension. It's like how Jedi teach these awesome powers to people, but only if they are certain they won't use the dark side of the force. That's why the Grand Master was against taking in Strange for so long. My only complaint is I felt like the whole thing was kinda squished. Strange's first fight was against the second biggest bad guy who had trained for many many years and could take on the Grand Master herself, almost as an equal. And he wins, against both him and all of his cronies. We never saw his progression, it felt like just an odd sequence of events. Each event was pretty nice to watch, but some felt out of order and some felt like there should've been a couple more sequences. This would've been great as a miniseries, I think. Maybe a six episode Netflix show. Or a 12-13 episode one with another plotarc.

I think it works in the sense that it would keep people from stumbling upon the ability to throw fireballs and shit. iirc astral projection was the only spell that Strange could even use without a magical item by the end of the movie.

Of COURSE he was overpowered. Good God, he was able to control time after reading ONE PAGE out of a forbidden book AND he beat the frikkin' biggest, baddest thing in the universe in all of one minute in in-movie time. After dying countless times and then being revived in an infinite time loop which he created because he can fucking CONTROL TIME. There's no conflict anymore. If his love interest dies then he can just rewind time so that she never dies. Shit, if a threat like the forgettable cult leader ever shows up again then Strange can identify the guy, go back in time, go to his house, and kill him before he has the chance to fuck shit up. What affect does all this time travel have on the Marvel space-time continuum? When he was "fighting" Dormammu did he just stop time in the Shadow Dimension and all the other dimensions kept on goin' or did time stop in ALL of them? ????

Er. Did you and I not watch the same movie or something? The Ancient One CLEARLY stated that through every future possible she's seen, she always came to the exact same conclusion - her death. Them seeing possible futures includes ones in which they fuck with time, so no matter what he did, she'd have still died the same way. Plus time in the Marvel universe unlike most others IS something that's difficult to mess with. You have to do it slowly, precisely, and carefully. To jump to the comics, there have been times they basically BROKE it. It's one of the more careful laws that's never to be used without major purpose - saving one life isn't worth it if they're going to die regardless.

In Texas, there’s two gigantic kaleidoscopes outside of this Mellow Mushrooms restaurant near my house. They’re about as big around as a tire, and the hole you look through is really big, so you can look at a kaleidoscope without having to jam a tiny tube into your eye. I mean, it’s not anything worth traveling to see, but as a man who shares this love for kaleidoscopes, I thought I’d just speak up.
