I experienced a similar feeling when watching scenes in a high tier theater. Immediately after getting home I played the same scenes because they were so much different and was blown away with how much my theater was missing. It may/may NOT have cause me to rebuild my entire theater to replicate the experience. You don’t know what you’re missing until you know. Once you know there’s no going back ;)

I couldn’t agree with you more, from my humble pioneer 5.1 setup to slowly building with a mashup of different speakers. I enjoyed every iteration of each setup, each new speaker and sub adding a bit of excitement to the journey. After finally owning my end game setup, I know it’s not perfection, but I surely love my 7.2.6 full SVS setup.

I love this Youthman. You are the absolute best. It’s so cool to see you open your home up to other enthusiasts to keep the love for our hobby alive. I love your message to enjoy the journey. I started out with a soundbar. Then went to a klipsch system. Then switched to Emotiva. I then built a brand new home with a dedicated room using focal in walls. The journey has been great. However I’m not done yet. Thanks for the content brother.

Atmos is a gimmick when used in a sound bar, headphones or "upfiring" speakers. In a real Atmos setup, it's amazing with the right movie.

It's still a gimmick to sell speakers and amps... just like having all the subwoofers. When you "see" an object going from speaker to speaker, that's not a good system... with a good system, you NEVER see the speakers because every thing blends into a bubble of sound where the viewer is immersed.

I have Atmos setup in my basement with Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 soundbar with an AWOL 3000 pro 120 inch self rising screen. I have heard Ready player One, Ambulance, Beekeeper, and Leon The professional streaming on Vudu on volume of 35. it completely blew away my lossless setup in my master bedroom with my Nakamichi shockwafe SSE Earc 9.2.4 with 1300 watts. I'd give the Nakaimichi dragon 99.5 out of 100..I haven't even setup my system correctly yet. I haven't pushed my system yet. The last thing I played was Taylor Swift Eras tour on Disney plus. It was next level and felt I was at the concert and I was only playing it at 35% of volume. The next soundbar that's Next level is the Sony Quad theatre that's supposed to be next level especially with the additional subwoofer.. It's supposed to be extremely immersive especially with Sony 360 software. it just came out and getting fantastic reviews.

~ 11:00 Combining my SPL120 and my newest addition, my RP-1200SW is insane! When I watched Interstellar for the first time a few weeks ago on Prime or Apple TV (forgot which one) small items on one speaker (RP-1200SW) fell on the floor and I almost dumped my LF, which was on a 3-legged stool on top of the SPL120, due to the vibrations. During the wormhole scene I was worried the subs would explode the drivers were experiencing such wild excursions!!! Of course I felt it, too :) Sometimes I move my chair a few feet closer to the TV so I try to get better Atmos, since the rear speakers (RP500SAs) are only about a foot behind my head and a bout 5 ft to each side.

Great video! I really appreciate the sentiment of enjoying the journey of a new hobby/passion because it can be incredibly intimidating to get into something new when you see others so much further in their journey who have the knowledge, experience, and budget beyond your current scope. Sometimes it can be discouraging and hard to enjoy the progress you have made when you feel you do not have the access you need to reach that level. This is true for home theater, but really any interest. I liked how many times throughout the video there were old photos of your room, the 19" screen and various level of speakers, the room being built out, etc. Very encouraging. The other part of this video I thought was important was in the end when you discuss the connection with people of similar interests. Tim really made a great point that it doesn't matter who you are or where you are at in your own home theater progress. As long as you are passionate about it, you will be part of the community. Encouraging beginners and offering tips on how to make things better for those on a budget or working with an odd space is so important. Lot of takeaways from this video that I think transcend far beyond home theater. Very cool.

"Done is better than perfect" Amen to that! I was overly stressed to get my room "right" the first time, in the "right" order. Once I got beyond that mindset I've very much been enjoying iterating on the room. 6 months in and I've just now added the screen...I'd been projecting on the grey wall so that I could play with size and position!

I would love to hear this scene at your theater. It may be the best recorded and accurate recording I've ever heard. It's the scene in Tom Cruise's awful "War Of The Worlds" when the residents are on the street corner before that machine comes out of the ground. The rumbling, the sound of glass from the church windows shattering on the pavement sounds like real glass. Then, that thing starts chasing people and vaporizing them, great surround effects but when Cruise is hiding behind a parked car and that thing steps on the car, OMG. It sounds like a real car accident in your house!!!

I want someone like you with a good base and knowledge of the sounds in atmos to try out impulcifer. It’s a free program that can use your setup and your individual ears/head shape to recreate the room onto headphones. It’s not the gimmicky 7.1 headphones either. You just need a decent pair of headphones in ear mics and an interface with pc.

Great videos, its not a gimmick Dolby Atmos or even DTS-X. Had dought on it. Just have a media room for my home cinema. A 5.2.2 with all the different upgrade I did would not go back if truly worth it. Your movies are brought to another level often better in my place than at movies theater.

Sooooo... I do not have a dedicated room. My setup is in my living room, that opens up into my kitchen off to the side. My current AVR is only a 7 channel AVR. As of right now I only have 2 speakers for Atmos/Height. They are not on the ceiling yet. I have them sitting on my towers facing up. My main listening area is further back closer to the back wall and I have two couches along each side wall. Where do you recommend I put my two height speakers for the time being? Front stage up high? Mid way on ceiling or high wall? Or One front, one back middle ceiling? Or any other suggestion. Room is a rectangle with angled ceilings. I will be upgrading my AVR eventually to a 11 or 13 channel.

I'm building my first home theater system (DIY speakers and subs)... My house is on a slab, and the tactile response from the bass is CRAZY with my dual PSS555's and 2x Ultimax 18's. My home literally shakes, inside and outside. I've actually rattled off a flood light outside. If I'm "missing out" or losing tactile response because I'm on a slab, I honestly don't know what more y'all are getting that I'm not.
@roywarnerfilms
@roywarnerfilms 4 ай бұрын
Your house is shaking, but your concrete slab is not. If you were on a suspended floor the floor would shake significantly more and those vibrations would be felt in your seating. Transducers can re-create this, but nothing beats that natural pressurized response across the board. You can accomplish this by putting your seating up on risers. It won't go as far as a fully suspended floor (though you could do that, too) but it'd be a noticeable difference.

As much as I love movies and surround sound, I just can't justify running all the equipment and losing living room space for a normal home. Also, hollywood movies are just not as good anymore. Im currently running a 5.1 set up on a 7.1 AVR. Movies rarely activate the rear speakers so i may eventually go back to 2.1 stereo since i mostly play music, but movies in stereo are still enjoyable.

Tim Turner gave an awesome and valid reason why projectors are the best for movie enjoyment: the ability to hide the speakers behind the screen, which increases immersion. Tim was far more immersed in the film when he didn’t see the speakers, and I 100% agree with him. Projectors also offer other benefits over TVs, such as larger screen sizes for a true cinematic experience, better eye comfort in low-light environments, and the flexibility to create a custom-sized screen based on your space.

“When done properly” is the key. The Jurassic Park 4k Blu-ray (I know it’s DTS X, but same idea in my 7.2.4 setup) is a great example of both. When T-Rex was overhead looking down at the SUVs in the outbreak scene, the roar coming from the top felt a bit gimmicky. Cool, but kinda felt like 3-D gimmickry is at times. But later, when the flock of dinos were running along with Alan and the kids, that mixing was such an immersive experience that it couldn’t help but smile.

I am really curious how the JTR speaker compare to the new svs ultra evolution pinnacle and the new svs elevations. Any idea how they compare?
@Youthman
@Youthman 4 ай бұрын
They are not designed to compete with JTR. Two completely different leagues. JTR 212 HTR vs SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Sensitivity: 101dB vs 88dB Output: 134dB vs probably nowhere near that Power Handling: 2,000 watts RMS vs 300 watts RMS Compression Driver vs 1" tweeter Woofers: (2) 12" woofers vs (4) 8" woofers Keep in mind that the coaxial driver alone in a JTR speaker cost over $900 four years ago when I visited their headquarters. I'm quite confident SVS doesn't have a single component in the Evolution series that cost near that much.

Simple question... when a rock hits the water using Dolby ATMOS, do you hear the effect of the rock and the ripples in the water hitting other objects? People who rave about ATMOS are into big bang movies, they like to see the helicopter flying across the room, but that "object" is self contained and doesn't reflect off other objects.
@Youthman
@Youthman 4 ай бұрын
Atmos speakers typically play content that happens above you or music score to create an enveloping sound. Why would you hear ripples of water when that is happening in front of you on the screen? You should hear those sounds from your LCR which would represent how you would hear it in real life.
@ronmurphy4234
@ronmurphy4234 4 ай бұрын
@@Youthman You miss the point, the use of a HT is to put the user into an event... and not segment the event into a series of "objects" that fly around the room... in a good system, there's no such thing as an LCR, just the event... I don't care what speaker is playing the sound when they are all blended into a bubble of sound. Play the movie Open Range (2003), in the opening scene your in the middle of an open range in Montana (but actually Alberta, Canada) , there's a thunderstorm off in the distance, you can hear the wheat rustling in the wind, that's nuance when you can't tell what speaker is playing the sound.
@Youthman
@Youthman 4 ай бұрын
I’m fully aware of the purpose of a HT. But in your illustration, there would be zero reason to hear a ripple from water in the Atmos channels. You are correct, the goal of Atmos isn’t to direct attention to those channels, but rather provide a seamless, immersive experience.

Recently I upgraded My Studio Theater to Denon A1H , all SVS Ultras , couldnt be Happier, BUT ATMOS as it is advertised is full of Gimmic, Apple Music SPATIAL AUDIO?.???? Total Lie, its stereo lossless at best.- They Say its Object based, when its clearly NOT object Based.- Windows can not support more than 7.1.4, how is this the case, if it is Object Based and not Channel Based? My A1H could make the missing Channels that windows does not support , but somehow Atmos signal from Windows is 9.1.6, but couldnt matrix in Real Time the Two missing? i cant have a definite answer from Dolby but its really weird.- Also PS5 does something similar, but it doesnt upmix the old games, so you end up Loosing Height if you choose Atmos as Output, BUT the game does not support it i dont understand really, it seems there are so few of us, that they only care in Advertise ATMOS everywhere, and not making it work ANY where
