When it comes to the exploits of Freddy Krueger there are a lot of options to choose from. Do you go with the versus film with Jason? Or do you go with the meta approach that completely flipped the series on its head? No, instead we're diving into the best sequel of them all: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: amzn.to/3Kckrpb
Written, Narrated and Edited by Tyler Nichols
Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols
Executive Producer by Berge Garabedian
Music Provided by Pixabay.com
SERIES SYNOPSIS: Ahhh the 80's. A simpler time where the blood ran red, the tits swung freely, and the weed was copiously smoked. A time where rampant killers were simply excuses for excessive sex and over the top murder. Yes, we're looking at an era where the slasher movie ran wild over cinemas everywhere. Today, we're looking at "Real Slashers."

Come on now. Part 2 was somewhat scary, but it wasn't good. Following your high school football coach to a S&M club and watching him get spanked to death with jump ropes. 😂 I didn't know if I was watching a horror movie or gay porn😆 Also those Rottweilers with baby heads on them is enough by itself to make it a comedy instead of a horror.

Part 3 is to me the best "Nightmare on Elm Street Movie"; it just had the perfect balance of horror, fantasy, dark comedy, best look and version of Freddy, and the most memorable cast and kills. The first one is still the best "Horror movie"; in terms of scares and all of the great things that make "a horror movie a horror movie"

Totally agree, it's my favorite of the series as well. I think it's also the one that got Freddy's quipping right. His "jokes" are just so mean-spirited, and intended to add to the psychological torture of his victims. There's no winking to the audience or pausing for a laugh; every line is aimed directly at the victim to increase their suffering. Also, seriously, the kid getting marionetted by his own tendons is easily the most gnarly death in the franchise. So nasty.

Although I do think this is the best follow up in the franchise, it also started the comedic Freddy with the one-liner pun kills that to me really killed the tone of these films going forward. Also, it always bothered me that they don’t bleed in the real world when they’re dying in their dreams in the sequels like they did in the original.
@ButterCookie1984

Not only do we get to see Patricia Arquette in one of her first roles as Kristen, but the underrated Jennifer Rubin as Taryn, Laurence Fishburne as the orderly Max, and the return of Heather Langenkamp and the late John Saxon, as Nancy Thompson and her father Lt. Dream Warriors is one of the most ambitious sequels of any genre and that it mostly pulls it off is a testament to its quality and execution of vision. Dream Warriors really showcased the conceit of Freddy being a collective unconscious unto himself, which was a terrific idea. That the kids all knew him but were unknown to each other upped the stakes and conveyed Freddy as far more powerful than before. I also really like the dynamic of the kids, and I enjoy Nancy being akin to a big sister. She became for them the adult who listened, as none did for her. That said, half of the characters weren't really developed enough for me to care too much about them. Growing up, I always believed Kristen was my favorite, then I realized I just like Patricia Arquette. After Nancy, Alice is my favorite in the series, and I think she's Nancy's true legacy.

I really enjoyed Dream Warriors although I missed the darker Freddy of the first two that was much more sadistic as you couldn't see him and he didn't joke. He just did what he did without giving the audience any reasoning or relief from the torment he was applying to his victims. I don't think we need another Elm St. Dream Warriors film. Its been done and done really well. It would just fuck it up. If we are going to get another Elm St. lets get something dark/evil and monstrous that goes somewhere the others haven't.

I like Dream Warriors but a part of me has always wondered what it would've been like had they kept all the really dark Freddy dialogue that the Craven/Wagner script had in it. Having read their version of the script I can't help but question why it wasn't used. I remember Chuck Russell and various other people at New Line say in the Never Sleep Again doc that Freddy was just too dark. But shouldn't he be dark? It is a horror movie after all. I'm not saying they should've changed anything about the narrative or character actions from the Darabont/Russell rewrite but them changing Freddy's dialogue and character tone just opened the door for more and more ridiculous humor in future sequels. Robert is great nonetheless but I would've loved it if Freddy had actually grown to be more evil as the Franchise went on just because it seemed like a much more natural character progression for him. I'm not saying I'm right but it's just my opinion. Btw, Tyler, you did an awesome job with this one! Maybe on the next episode you could cover Maniac, The Prowler or Madman.

the script is online and there have been some KZbinrs have done long scene by scene reviews of it. It is very weird, very dark and gory, but seemed very confusing and really "broke the rules of the series". Going back and forth in and out of the dream world, there was this strange house where Freddy was born that needed to burned which Officer Thompson is hunting down. Seems like the budget would of been insane for the time to film. would be interesting if they did an animated version or something following that script.

I haven't read it in 20 years so I'm very fuzzy on the details, but I remember thinking that it would've worked as a novel, but it was absolutely unfilmable with '80s FX.

I always thought a HUGE reason why Dream Warriors is the best, is because in the 1st film Freddy is killing people, same with Freddy's Revenge, but in Dream Warriors Freddy isn't just killing people but killing them according to their fears...Dream Master and Dream child did this too but nowhere near as well...I've seen this movie a thousand times and just realized like last year that because Joey is a mute that's why that Freddy nurse straps him down with tongues...that is CRAZY detail in a horror film, every jab and every kill is directly correlated with the teenagers fears, even with Freddy dealing with Kirsten's issue with her mom bringing drunken boyfriends around and as I said, Dream Warriors is the only film in the series to NAIL THAT

First off I would like to say that it's JoBlo horror 4life !! Great video as always and I do agree with you however my favorite Freddy movie would have to be part four the dream masters, Alice is a dope character and the opening song she wrote for the movie is awesome. It has some really interesting kills and the the way Freddy dies is just phenomenal !! Anyway thanks for this great video.

Well the first Nightmare is the scariest, and Wes Craven's New Nightmare is the most creative in terms of the plot... But if you want Freddy Krueger in all of his 1980s horror movie glory, you want The Dream Warriors... It kicks so much ass!

I can say that no matter how Nightmare on Elm Street P3 is rated by the critics or anyone... that it is the one I rewatched the most of all the films. I practically burned out my VHS copy. So I am quite in agreement with the sentiment in this video.

I think a streaming service should pick up the NOES franchise and start with a season featuring 10-12 episodes showing how each of dream warriors survive Freddy long enough to end up in the Asylum. Each episode revolves around one of the Dream Warriors and their story of survival or one of the remaining elm st kids and how Freddy claims their soul and as he claims more souls we would see him change as his powers grow. Starting out being the dark Freddy seen in 1&2. Ending with the sarcastic maniac that savors the moment by showing off his new power. Season one ends with Kirstin being committed in the asylum. Instead of finishing up the dream warriors story during season 2 they make a 90-120 minute movie. That’s basically a season finale on steroids. No filler bs or wasted effort. As long as you got Robert Englund as FK or someone that can really do justice to the character it would work. Especially with said format
