Is Dylan Raiola ALREADY The Real Deal?!

Dylan Raiola looked very impressive in Nebraska's Spring Game! He definitely appears to have the inside track on starting for the Huskers this fall. The question is, just how good is he already?! Also, Adam believes Nebraska may have 2 QBs that are already better than the QBs the Huskers had last season. Finally, is this the most athletic/talented/explosive group of WRs Nebraska's had in recent memory?!

"Cool under fire as a Mountain Lake!" That is what I saw in the stadium. Also. yes we all know that he has a strong arm, but I was more impressed with accuracy. How many times have we seen in the past NU quarterbacks that throw passes at the receiver's feet. Frustrating. Dylan gets the ball where it has to be. The only downside to him is that he is not a "Dual Threat" QB. Scott Frost added a whole new dimension to the game because he could run so well. Maybe we can rotate Harburg in to make up for that?

Just a “for fun” question, just looking at this season alone. Would you rather have Chubba Purdy from last year or Daniel Kaelin from this year as one of our 3 main QBs on the roster for this fall?

@@carrikerchronicles90 Considering Purdy wasn’t healthy most of last year, I’d take Kaelin. Assuming good health for Purdy, it’s close. I don’t think either one would be successful right now, but Kaelin looks like he could grow into a good quarterback. Purdy, probably not.

Dylan is super relaxed. Looks like he’s been there done that. Obviously he wasn’t getting sacked by the defense which changes things but he was super accurate on long throws. Also on some incompletions he put the ball where only a his guy could catch the ball and not the defender.

Having watched Raiola's high school tape pressure or getting sacked never seemed to bother his ability to throw. there were several times he is getting taken down and still throws a good pass. I think I attribute this to his personal QB coach who works with Patrick Mahomes too. Raiola mentioned working on flexibility and I watched the quarterback netflix series where they show the work mahomes did with that guy. They work a lot on stretching and throwing from all sorts of weird positions. I think having a defense in his face might showcase more of why Dylan is special rather than him being young. Hopefully. Regardless dude just looks different than anyone Nebraska has ever had.

Dylan appears relaxed despite his own account of being choked on the tunnel walk up and blacked out on the first snap. Translation: Dylan understands that he has a lot to live up to when your Dad’s name is on the wall of the stadium. It’s just as important to acknowledge it as it is to actually live up to it. He just seems to be as humble as a guy in his shoes can be. Owning mistakes like ball position on delivery shows the kind of maturity that you don’t usually see in a true freshman. He’s clearly an unconscious natural talent who has been trained by great coaches and fellow athletes/players. He’s going to be tough to beat in a couple years.

I'm glad you brought up the sacks that "Shoulda" been called because there were at least 4 or more that had they not been wearing green shirts they woulda been picking themselves up off the turf alot more....so everybody needs to re watch the scrimmage on a re-,run and count how many you see.

All three QB's looked good. 1. Dylan was poised. He was accurate, good with his decision-making, and smooth. He is the best overall QB. 2. HH was vastly improved with throwing. He still threw too many balls into coverage but was more accurate. He can also run. I'd like to see him as backup. 3. Danny Dines looked great as an 18 year old. He made some mistakes and would benefit from redshirting, IMO. GBR!!

Things looking up throughout the program. Our first 7 games can be thought of as "pre-season" compared to the last 5 which are tough. Hope we have some laughers where Dylan (assuming he starts) can give up reps to Kaelin. I'd like to see HH as special situations and special plays that can totally shock the opposing defense. Kaelin can be an NFL QB but we have to get him real reps in games. I don't think we have enough Kaelin experience and different players blossom at different times.

There's been a lot of discussion in the offseason about not turning the ball over as much (and for good reason). We also need to focus on the defense forcing more turnovers this year. Getting more picks and forcing more fumbles. If we can be on the plus side of the TO margin every game, we will probably win a lot more games.

I believe he is. I dont want to drink the kool aid too fast, seeing as how he hasnt played an actual game yet..but based on the spring game, he played with poise, made quick decisions and carried himself as though he is a seasoned veteran instead of a true freshman. Haarberg looked freakish fast and improved as a passer, but Dylan is the clear starter and it’s not even close. With that said, bring in HH in packages to use that speed with the element of surprise to throw the ball. Daniel will grow into his own, I didn’t think he was a true freshman coming in but a good addition for the program going forward.

Dylan Raiola is a PROGRAM CHANGER! Raiola gonna win a Heisman (maybe two) and be the number one overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. He's got it all - decision making, athletic ability, leadership, work-ethic, focus, humility, drive, etc. Raiola is already the best QB in the B1G which gives Nebraska a chance to beat any team on the schedule. Nebraska's o-line and special teams have a lot of things to work on. We're comin'!!

Matt Rhule's QB coach hire looks like a smart decision based on QB play in the spring game. I liked the rotation where each QB took every third series - very smart use of the QBs and allowing them all to get some PT in the spring game. I was actually most impressed by Haarberg, he looked light years better in the spring game than all of last year. Raiola hit some nice passes, and showed some great touch. I thought Kaelin looked very good as well for just a few months out of HS. BUT - pump the brakes here a little bit, there was a red-zone INT that was high and behind the receiver, and I don't remember seeing any of the returning defensive starters on the field. So take the spring game for what it was - a scrimmage with fans. Opposing B1G defensive coordinators will be much harder (blitzes and disguised secondary coverages) on our QBs than White was on Saturday. It wasn't the topic of this video, but Dowdell and Barney are the real deal too. Best looking WR room I have ever seen at Nebraska.

Way too much hype too soon from the media in general about Raiola, him being the "next Patrick Mahomes" etc but it is clear he is preparing himself to be an NFL QB and being at Nebraska (and leading them to success) is likely to garner himself a lot more publicity than had he been one of two or three potential starters on some other supposedly higher caliber team. The path to the NFL for Raiola goes thru Nebraska and the path for Nebraska to regain dominance in football goes through Dylan Riaola. It could be the perfect storm we've been waiting for.

Nebraska football should run the ball because of the weather in Nebraska during the football season. Nebraska football since Bob Devaney has run the ball using the option. It is our DNA. One recruit or coach will not change this! The fan base wants a dynasty again. What happens when Riola graduates or jumps to the NFL.Since 1962 Nebraska 😮has run the ball. Let’s stop fooling ourselves. Short term gains for the football team will not satisfy the fan base and guarantees further deterioration of the program in the future because the football program cannot expect to recruit another Riola. I am really concerned about starting a freshman quarterback. If you remember a few years ago in the Martinez era, he started as a freshman and look what happened to him.

The offensive line’s “experience” does not give me hope. The opposite, actually. They’ve shown how little they improve year to year over the last 15 years that they’ve all seemingly been starting. Last year, with the improvement they made, was the first time that they started looking like a low-to-mid D1 offensive line. And I’d wager their numbers would’ve been worse if we hadn’t been turning the ball over every other down on offense. I’m excited about a lot of things at Nebraska, but their “experience” belies a weakness not a strength. They’re not getting drafted and nobody great is asking for them in the transfer portal, so here they remain, covid years and all.

One question and one answer about the quarterbacks. 1. Why in the heck were they not names on the jerseys yesterday in the spring game. Really hard to follow from California who anybody was. 2. Harberg Is improved, and I sure the heck hope so because he was one of the worst quarterbacks in game situations in college as a starter. It was comical at times, just anticipating a fumble or who he was going to throw to, I’d or them. He is not even close to Daniel let alone Dylan not even in the same league number three in my opinion and good God I hope we don’t have to put him back in.

I believe in the hype behind Dylan but if I was choosing a starter after that spring game I still got HH. he completed almost same percentage on 8 less throws. Same amount of TDS and no interceptions. Dylan dropped a snap out of the gun and had a INT. And you can say oh that wasn't his fault it went through receivers hands. Well HH had 4 of those last year same way and everyone blames him. Not saying I don't believe the hype but think about it

@@tejayfenster6914 Looked like an adequate backup. Raiola will be starter on Game 1. We all saw it. Dylan looks was calm, confident and in control. He's simply at another level. Sustained drives. I had an Aggie friend come over for the game. Even he commented about the poise that Raiola showed. He mentioned the high pass in the back of the end zone. Said he looked like a pro. No worries. He was going to get it on the next play.

My gut feeling is Haarberg is way better than last year and we may need him at some point because players aren’t making it the entire season. I think we will be bowl bound for sure and possibly a shot at the National championship!

We don’t need to waste a scholarship on bringing in a QB. The position that would benefit the most of would OL/DL and LB if they are young. Lot of guys are leaving after this year so getting depth is big

I am saving my enthusiasm until the QB's go live. Every girl looks like a million dollars at the Beauty pageant, but once the makeup comes off, it's a whole new world. 3 games into the season I will start to get enthusiastic. Once your game is on film and DCs have a chance to game plan for you, your talent is proven.

No is my answer on a transfer QB. Well one caveat would be for insurance. I think Dylan should start, and let questions be answered. What if you start Heinrich, and it goes south, lot of fans get upset. Most impressive IQ wise is Daniel Kaelin! Off the field he is so impressive, composed. On field , can you say Elite11
