My eBay sales have been tanking the past few years. With retirement only a month away, I'm considering going back to doing record shows only. I can sell records for less at a show than I can on eBay, but I will still make more money because I don't have to pay eBay's various fees, including those for promoted listings. Buyers are more likely to buy in person because they can actually see what they're buying AND they don't have to pay shipping costs. Also, I can make as much, if not more, by doing just five or six shows per year as I can by listing eight or 10 records on eBay every day.

eBay is my side hustle. 95% of my stuff is from my house & 5% is from flipping (we have over 500 listings). I watch multiple KZbinrs to help me grow my little side hustle. Unlist, sell similar. List consistently. What do your pictures look like. Etc. each month we have a $50 -$100 growth since February of this year. You have to work it to make it work. I can’t wait to see what happens during Q4.

It’s definitely slowed down in the last two weeks. We have been tweaking and updating listings. Also plan to delete a bunch of listings that have not sold. Maybe that will help. On the other side we are also focusing on local sales with different marketplaces. Buyers want to save money. Selling local skips shipping costs and will more than likely grow sales in that area.

EBay advised me I'd be paying an additional (punishment) fee for having too many 'not as described' complaints in my music category. The exact number was 10 complaints in a one year period. Of those complaints, only 2 records were returned for refunds. The other buyers wanted partial refunds. Two important things: All of my records are spot played and double checked for accuracy before shipping. They are all shipped securely in sturdy boxes, double bubble wrapped with cardboard inserts. Also, not a single complainer gave me negative (or even neutral) feedback. Because of this eBay policy I have taken all my 700+ records off eBay and moved them to another site that actually is as equally fair to the seller as to the buyer.

At this point, it is obvious that eBay will NEVER take any of their seller requests seriously nor change any of the policies. It is too easy to skim/scam free shit on eBay. EBay then will do as they did to you and say your "not as described" rate is too high and punish you with higher fees thru no fault of your own. Just more ways for them to bank fees.

I found out in my eBay business when you are selling a physical product. Sometime you are selling a (need) and you are selling a (wanted) product I sell both. So I learn I have to be patient because I'm selling products that people will buy in days of listing them. Or months of listing them or a year from listing them. I just sold some books that I listened a year ago $150. I pay nothing for those books. Reselling or e-commerce it's all the same. You have to market and promote your products and be patient.😊

It's not all doom and gloom. I think some of the weirdness in sales we've all been seeing, in both directions, is tied to the changes ebay has been making and the multitude of glitches associated with them. I had my best week of the year a few weeks ago, immediately followed by one of my worst, then sales went back up. What I will say is that things have been erratic. I've gone from ecstatic to panicked and then back to pleased. I'm kind of grateful in a way. Times like this remind us to keep on top of things and not get complacent.

I sell on eBay as a side hustle. The 13.4% fee is high and annoying, but it's still low compared to local full service auctions in my city where they take 16.5% from the buyer and a whopping 20% from the seller. One local auction house has raised its buyer fee from 16.5 to 18.7% within one year! The problem with raising fees is I just adjust my bid a little lower to compensate. The auction house could well be getting less money than before. With eBay, I factor in eBay's fees into my selling price. If they want to raise fees I have to raise my prices, and that may turn away shoppers.

I believe it is how much effort you put into your business. Anyone doing this full time knows it is crazy to say you have full flexibility working for yourself. See what happens when you go on vacation for a week or 2 and your sales and views plummet. (Also if you are sick and take a day or two off) Also to say as working for yourself you can make your own hours; this may be true but if your are listing a new item at 3AM compared to 8PM you may also be affecting your sales. On Ebay you have good days and bad days but if you look at all your sales and key stats month to month you can usually see why sales are good or bad for a particular month.

Key points about eBay: 1. EBay will NEVER make changes to benefit sellers. NOT AS DESCRIBED is a cover-all method for all buyers to get a refund (for accurately listed items). 2. The economy sucks. People have less money to spend on wants. Ebay has turned into a FLEA MARKET with the constant lowballs for everything. I have an item (New) with comp sales at $600.00. People want to pay less than half?!?! It's on almost every item. No one wants to pay near comp sales. 3. Other less popular platforms are gaining market share. 4. All the added fees and advertising are KILLING margins for all the long-time sellers.

I always answer but I am not going to give my items away and I think buyers who low-ball to this level can move along to another seller...I will even tell them if the item is cheaper with a different seller.... does anyone else have this happen to them? Is eBay turning into a discount store where buyers just expect a percent off? It feels that way.... auction's 3:49 are pretty much a thing of the past and buy it now are headed that way. A seller can't make money anymore because if it's not the buyers asking for discounts it's eBay thinking up different ways to grab your money. I'd have to travel 30 miles to get to anything, which I can't do.) Fees are up. Taxes don't help.Expenses are up. If sales aren't also up, get out while you can. BTW, I've been hearing lots of bad stuff from Etsy sellers too. The management is getting too big for its britches, and greedy with it.

Ebay is too greedy so ebay isn't getting my good stuff any more. I'd rather let a smaller platform take those fees from me than the one I helped build.

All I'm doing is eBay and as of today I already have sales of last year

It's the economy, before eBay people would hit the grocery store.

In my opinion which isn’t worth much but I have been on eBay ten years successfully and sales come down to one simple thing yes other things matter BUT if you’re not willing to put the work in day in and day out consistently listing items, then you won’t get consistent sales it’s a simple as that

I’m lucky if I get 1 sale a day!! Very hard to keep it going, I’m spending money to list everyday and I’m becoming very defeated.

I have been eBay buyer and seller since 1999. I have quit buying on eBay. Why? Too many new sellers have sloppy listings. They want a quick flip. Only one pic, horrible clarity of pics, lack of details or item specifics, failure to list any defects, etc. If I contact a seller for more information, 80% never respond. The way I see it…a seller has to be the eyes for the buyer…if we have to ask questions, you aren’t doing a quality listing. Some sellers take such lame pics you can’t even tell the actual color of an item. My actual sales are down, but I have reduced inventory of the items in my store…

i bought a walkman on ebay for 70$ that was covered in sticky stuff. i told the seller it was stinky and sticky and he made a all-caps response WELL I GOT IT IN A DUMPSTER WUT U EXPECT. youtubers glorify finding garbage in dumpster bins and salvage at thrifts and make millions off of people,,, sad really. technsports and jride teach professionals

I find vintage UVA stuff all the time but comps and sell through rates never get me excited a enough about picking it up. I am maybe 20 minutes from campus so there is a lot here. You got $15 for some redskins Ziplock's!!!! Haha, I've found and sold a vintage Reebok Sweater and a Levis redskins flannel but typically stay away from sports stuff unless it is a quality Texas piece. Texas is big and the like their sports and the like spending money on old stuff. Texas stuff sells quick for me when i find it. I feel like VA can be snobby about their used or vintage goods wanting the newest, nicest and most expensive. Texas people love that classic worn out look. (in my opinion) Ohio gear can move fast as well.

I just started this year doing eBay I don't know anything about how it was before But within the first three months I got to $3000 90 day average from nothing and have grown to have a $15000 90 day total You really just need to only buy the right thing
@mastercommander43474 ай бұрын
At one point I was just buying this to list and making very little profit

Now I am super picky with what I get

people see prices on food and gas and etc but buyers are not boots on the ground at thrifts flea markets etc they are not seeing the pricing rise in these areas to sellers so sellers are having to pay more not to say deals arent out there but they are fewer and farther n between but it like u said some days are better than others and u just to got roll with it

I can tell you one thing. My sales are down significantly. You likely remember my KZbin handle. I have been watching you for years. I am much much better at buying and listing only good items now as opposed to my first year. But, my sales are actually down compared to my first year. Remember that companies are sometimes caught "cooking the books" for various reasons. I do not think eBay is doing well. Remember a few years ago it came out that upper management of eBay was doing some very shady things. Yes, I know the management has changed, but it just proves there is a good chance of corruption at the top.

Time to start selling elsewhere or re evaluate my business. The work is constant and results not the same. Very disappointing... I hold out a glimmer of hope but Q 4 will tell me all I need to know.

How do you account for inflation in those numbers? I think you are missing this in your evaluation- this is not growth to me.
