I disagree that he tells people to battle their ego. He tells us to accept it. He never uses the words "fight" or "battle" or "eradicate" or "remove". He is saying to transcend it. This does not mean eradicate. It means integrate. If you're present, the ego falls away. And he says "fall away" over and over.

I have never ever in my life been so able to stay present listening to and taking in every word someone says as the first time I heard him speak. I was completely present for about two and half hours and it was so inspiring, peaceful and interesting. To me, he is practicing what he “preaches” and is just all around amazing. I also love his sense of humor. I’ve never felt he is telling us to eradicate our ego, but rather be aware of it and transcend. He has the best energy and radiates so much peace, love and kindness.

Reading Eckhart’s book The New Earth was one of three things I’ve read over the years that have had the most profound effect in terms of shaping my spirituality. Gary Zukav’s Seat of the Soul awakened me after I had rejected Christianity. Then I read something Oprah wrote in an article - she said that during her 20s while in a bad relationship and working at a small tv station, she one day realized that while she had been waiting for God to tell her what she should do, all along God was waiting for her to decide what she wanted to do. That one sentence blew me away and made me realize we design our experiences. Then lastly Tolle’s The New Earth taught me a lot about being present. What I have learned from this channel during the last many months is that what I learned from the above three sources is true for me but also the overall purpose of life (if you want to call it that) is to learn about the many aspects of love and overcome our fears. These have been the highlights of my spiritual journey.

It seems to me that Eckhart speaks as he lives, his voice representing the calm within - uninterested in whether he's using his voice or mannerisms to engage others. It's not of his concern. I find he writes similarly, from his own stream of consciousness, unconcerned whether his words will have meaning to others. It's like he's an open book saying" read me if you want, understand me if you can....meh, if this connects with you, that's ok and if not, that's ok too

I think, when Eckhart Tolle speaks he wants the listener to meditate. That's, why he makes long pauses, so that the listener has time in which he won't think. In one of his talks he explains this concept. But I rather like to meditate when I sit down for meditation, rather than in the moment when I listen to someone .
@Charlotte-mk4ze Жыл бұрын
To me, it is sometimes possible to listen to someone like Eckhart in a state of meditation, of aware openness, which means of not arguing.I am then grateful for the pauses, the stillness shining through. But I can totally see that it might be too relaxing... ;-)

Here's some Eckhart Tolle quotes: "What the ego calls LOVE is possessiveness and addictive clinging that can turn to hate within a second." "When you are aware that you are thinking, that awareness is not part of thinking. It is a different dimension of Consciousness." "There is no such thing as "My life!" I don't have a life, I AM life!" (BY THE WAY THIs is my thought on God: when God/the creator called himself "I AM" and we say those words it is also what We are "I AM" is what god is and what we are as one being" ) LRB

THANK YOU❤ I really love Eckhard Tolle. Especially because as a German living in Norway his German speeches are much easier for me to understand immediately. Most of the really good informations, books and courses are usually in English. Though I DO intelectually understand English perfectly, is it somehow more difficult to take the words into the heart immediately... Strange, but that's how it is for me... So I watch your show everyday, but always need to see and hear it 3 times to really grasp the deeper meaning of the words. 😊

This said I also think there is a slight difference between how the word "ego" is defined in both languages and I think that he might use it the German way. There self-awareness is more described as Selbstbewusstsein or Selbst (self) , while Ego is rather mind-controlled definition one has about himself/herself created by how others and the environment made one think about oneself.... Difficult to explain.

I'm totally with you on the notion of ego. I mean.. the point of incarnating in the physical was precisely to experience the contrast resulting from the illusion of separation from God and other souls. Our ego and sense of self are obviously mandatory for that kind of experience. It's just that those who end up transcending their ego and being able to control the various biological and instinctive impulses that result from that ego will probably tend to live a much more peaceful and satisfying life, since they won't feel the need to always compete with others, prove themselves to others, they won't always feel threaten by others, etc. But with that said, a total eradication of our ego would defeat the very purpose of our presence here in the physical. Thanks John for this other great video!

It's like saying what degree is cold and what degree is hot that's very much subjective to the person experiencing the temperature. And just like enlightenment the degree of understanding is like layers which are infinitely in-depth. It's like when you're born you don't know language but in your inviting to the language you know how to speak it. Same with spirituality it's a language. What is objectively enlightened? It's not finite or defined it's an experience which you cannot judge unless you experience it yourself and who's to say you have from an objective standpoint?

Hi John. I appreciate and am enjoying your channel(s). Found you through Alex’s NLS and looking forward to the next exchange. I’m having a wonderful time looking at things anew. Since understanding how thoughts become things and that we are one with god/source and each other, I am marveling at how manifestations I once filtered through dogma and attributed to something outside myself are really the result of loving energy that flows through everything. I’ve heard you say you’ve witnessed miracles when you were able to facilitate a person’s release of fear and encourage their belief. In the past, I’ve seen people who were self-confessed skeptics attend gatherings where the occurrence of miracles ‘was noised about’ and they went with the intention to prove it was all BS. They held no expectation of any healing for themselves, yet despite this mindset, they experienced a healing (physical or spiritual). Is that an illustration of grace or mercy? Is belief the only thing that facilitates manifestation in this plane? Oxford dictionary says mercy is “compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.” But that’s in *our* power. Every moment we can choose to either be loving or not to another. Webster says grace is “unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification.” Since we are all one and already worthy; and god is within, not without, any “divine assistance” *is* merited. WHAT IS YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF GRACE AND MERCY? I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for creating a safe place for discourse.

Eckhart had moment of grace that dissolved his egoic self, it's not a choice he made, it's something that happened, he teaches to be present but I don't know if that would lead to an enlightened state, it's a state of being more present, a better way to live. I had a moment of realisation bought on by his teachings but it didn't last, it's now a memory, I can't listen to him anymore because it's always about the problems that not being present causes, rarely does he give a reminder of entering the portal of presence, plus the way he is being marketed by sounds true is awful and I can only imagine he doesn't know about the constant advertising.

“Enlightenment” can be sudden or gradual. If enlightenment is sudden, the interpretation of the experience is limited to the experience and possibly imagination of the recipient… intelligence and the ability to articulate the experience to other’s is also a factor. Tolle has both the intelligence and ability to share his awakening in an understandable way… However, being in the Now, is just one way to awakening. Tolle was a phenomenon back in his day and had the skill to articulate his experience. Now, more people are experiencing these sudden awakenings… if these awakenings are now focused, or Oneness focused, mindfulness focused, gratitude focused or focused on whatever… Because of Tolle’s early, yet contemporary writings, the newly awakened have easily to understand reference material to guide them on their path, if that information is desired. However, the way I see it, sudden awakening only opens the door… sure, it’s enlightenment but then, what is enlightenment?

At 7:25, it is stated about Christians: "They believe that only Jesus is one with God. And so you can't have that oneness with God." Can you reference some source that states this? Do most people who call themselves Christians believe this? Among every belief system, there are groups with differences. I think it's often a bad idea to make absolute statements. It's true that many Christians have the theology that everyone is separated from God the moment they are born, but I've never encountered any Christian who stated that they believe that only Jesus can be one with God. If you believe that Jesus taught that only he could be one with God and no one else could, then say that's what you believe.

@@johnofnew Thanks for responding. For the sake of establishing my perspective, I do not believe that the only way to God is through Jesus.
