My wife has MS, and has been dealing with a lot of cognitive issues since her diagnosis. This game, however, seems to be right in the goldilocks zone in terms of pace and difficulty. She can happily gather things and build, and then come adventuring with me to find new stuff to advance our slowly-but-steadily-progressing story in our world. She doesn't have issues keeping up with the combat, which is a problem in a lot of other games. It's been a ton of fun playing it with her, and I hope for more story and lore content from this dev team as the game matures towards a full release. Fill up the world with Stuff To Do, and we'll play for AGES.

I agree, they're raising the bar for Early Access releases lol. I also picked up Nightingale shortly after Enshrouded, and I feel like it's a beautiful dumpster fire, I won't touch it until it leaves EA, if it doesn't get abandoned by then. It has great potential, but Enshrouded is just way more fun for me right now. Palworld didn't interest me whatsoever. I was never a Pokemon fan, maybe that's the difference.

Same. Broke my no Early Access rule because the base building looked incredible. Bought it two days ago and having a blast. The map is HUGE. Just as the first grassy area was starting to get a bit boring I ventured into a beautiful mountain forest, picked wild strawberries and got attacked by vicious boars. Awesome. Need to build a base there. My first survival game was Subnautica and I almost gave up initially because I kept dying and found everything super stressful. Glad I hung in there. One of the best games I ever played. Enshrouded is a super chill survival game. No hunger and thirst, just buffs. I can spend hours building a base without having to worry about survival. Played a bit with a friend on Sunday who had 100h in the game already and showed me a few places to grind materials. So far the resource grind isn't too bad though. Making steady progress unlocking stuff to craft, only wish levelling up was faster. And playing solo is a lot more difficult than in a group. This game feels very polished already. Unlocking base building stuff is what motivates me. The voxel system is incredible. Unlike in No Man's Sky terrain doesn't regrow apparently. So you can get really creative. Enjoy the game, my friend. :)

Fair review but one thing you forgot to mention and utilize in your play is the fact that its a voxel based game so you could have used "baby's first pick axe" to dig stairs into that hill side and get your items back instead of just jumping for them. Or even tunnel down to it. Adds a few interesting elements to overall gameplay. Also I kind of felt like the first 10 hours of the game or so was more like the tutorial. Until you get all of the NPC's you're not REALLY seeing all the game has to offer.

My biggest criticism for Enshrouded is that it is a very static game in a lot of ways, especially if you're playing single player. The friendly NPCs are essentially static crafting benches - they cannot move at all, or do anything at all, besides turning towards you. This definitely feels like a placeholder implementation. Also, the structures you build are completely static, and beyond the stamina boost they have no function. Buildings cannot be attacked, nothing happens to them whatsoever. Finally, the shroud itself is also static, it's not possible to 'clean' an area, and even if you defeat the well nothing really happens. And my bonus one is the static terrain, which is ironic in a way because the terrain is dynamically modifiable, yes, but ALL modifications done outside the base areas are not persisted at all... Preventing a lot of interesting opportunities of having a larger affect on the world.

What I found impressive first was the world design in general. It really gave my Skyrim vibes, and even today I'm often impressed by how organic and varied the terrain and the environment feel. But I think the most impressive part of the game is the voxel based building system, hands down. The fact that you can place down prefabs-like larger pieces, but then you can customize it in a detailed manner, and a lot of block structures (like putting a hole into something) create additional details. Not to mention the generous amount of material types when it comes to walls and floors. Roofs are a bit lacking, though.

I love the choice in this game. I can build when I want to, or go fight and upgrade and adventure and explore. The mats are easy to farm, and the manufacturing process is simple but necessary. 10 of 10.

I also really dont like survival games at all. But i bought enshrouded on a whim and absolutely love it. I don’t have a pc and only a steam deck so i was running it on the absolute minimum settings and still had awful frame rate. After around 20 hours i called it quits because of the performance. BUT I absolutely loved what I played and am SUPER excited for it to come to console. My fiancé also doesn’t like survival games but she loves rpgs like I do. We have had a great time playing games like borderlands, divinity original sin 1 and 2, baldurs gate 3, and outward together in co-op. My fiancé is also a big pokemon fan so she did play pal-world and actually had a good time. So since she liked pal-worls and outward I talked her into checking out enshrouded. She hasnt played it but she watched some KZbin videos and she said she’d play it. Now we’re both eagerly awaiting the console version so we can have our next co-op binger lol. But yeah, enshrouded kicks ass!

The game *intentionally* doesn't allow you to "skyrim" up steep cliffs, etc. You're supposed to use your pickaxe to dig tunnels, or little ledges to hop to and from. That's the beauty of the voxel environmental damage in the game. You literally manipulate the world to travel point A to point B. It's what separates it from other games.

I played over 30 hours in the game, and all i could think of for the first 4-5 is how hard the game was. once i found my playstyle, as a magic user i could cleave through hoards of enemys with ease, and truely go on to explore the incredibly vast world. after around 20 hours i fifnaly hit the sort of "redwood forest" biome and have been both awestruck and terrified of venturing in. In my opinion, it feels like if they tweeked combat and some experience/quest things that it would easily be one of if not the best sirvival game i have played in recent memoty which for somthing in early acess is incredible. Cant wait to see what it has to offer upon 1.0.

There isn't nearly enough do in the game in its current state for me to find it enjoyable. It's going to need a lot more stuff and a lot more work on making encounters feel epic, and bosses more epic. And it's need like fishing and hardcore mode and sailing and stuff like that. As it is, it just building a base, building a character, exploreing and looting, and finding and killing bosses that are easy unless you are underleveled. It's very very basic.

There is no water in the game. Probably because it's super hard to create water with physics in a voxel game, but also because of lore reasons(not gonna explain to avoid spoilers). But yeah, sailing is highly unlikely and fishing is possible but has to be in a small fixed spot, like the wells.

TLDR warning: I agreed with most of this review. However I think some situations were more on your end of the stick than the devs lol. We're only limited by our own imaginations, that's very much the case with that hill & loot retrieval issue you had but I've seen several other players have the same problem not thinking outside the box haha. So you're not alone there Matt! With 250+ hours in the game so far, I am absolutely loving it. I'm coming from games that range between cozy farming games like Stardew Valley, to more serious open world survival games like Ark SE, Conan Exiles, The Forest, with some RPGs thrown in there like Path of Exile and Baldur's Gate 3. I'm finding that Enshrouded is giving me a very nice mix of things I enjoy in other games, and I'm already working on a world focused on building, and my main world where my max lvl character is going that completionist route. I enjoy searching every nook and cranny in Enshrouded, finding every piece of lore, every obelisk, fast travel points, and hidden/buried treasures! They also added many great QoL features already implemented in the Early Access, like magic crates for crafting, Fast and efficient ways to traverse the world map, the voxel system that allows way more freedom for manipulating the terrain unlike how Valheim didn't allow tunnelling, even simple UI things like the menue button for hiding the UI to take a screenshot, or the option to fix up an existing town if you're not much of a builder. I'm also running my own server for my group of friends, and playing this game in multiplayer is also thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommend!!! We're creating a village together, and watching each other fail and excel at different things in the game, which is often hilarious too. =D I was also a fan of Keen Games' Portal Knights, enough to buy it both on Playstation and on PC. I think they have a solid developer team and I'm rooting for them!

I've been playing a dedicated archer (ranger/hunter) build and its a blast. I think a magic build would be fun too but I don't know if a melee build would be as much fun given the combat issues you highlighted since I noticed them as well.

Enshrouded is fun but the barrier to entry is the multi player. The game can get rather lonely. It’s fun to show off your home and accomplishments. The problem is everything is tied together. The quests and the building are shared. It would be better if they made multiplayer like other survival games. Your building and quests should be your own unless someone joins your guild. Even then, the quest experience should remain separate. The shared experience should be optional. Other than that, it’s fun but not enough to keep my family playing. I want to play on an online server but the experience is shared which is a complete turn off

I've got about 40 hours into Enshrouded. To me, it's a mixture of Valheim and a bit of Dark Souls. If your a fan of either, you won't be disappointed with this game.

I enjoyed Enshrouded, has a lot of potential, definitely not there yet, bases need to have a better purpose other than crafting. A purge system would be cool, something having to do with any of the factions. I like that there's rare items to find, but I wouldn't call them rare. For me it felt pretty empty. So I hope they work on that soon.

In my opinion, one of the most enticing aspects of survival type games is the building. And above all else whether you like the combat, or the quests. They really nailed the building, loved the game literally just for that. Everything thing else they add is just a bonus on top of a great game🎉

It's baffling that none of the reviewers have mentioned the terrible performance, Even with a 3080, you are forced to use upscaling to maintain stable 60fps at 1080p, I don't see anything in its graphics that would require such high-end hardware, this is honestly the worst-optimized game I've seen in a long time.

For an open world survival game in early access It was fun for the first two weeks but after I hit early game max level, got all the maxed out gear and finished all of the quests I had absolutely nothing to do. That's kind of the problem with me and survival games. If there's no real goal or path to follow then it just becomes very boring. Immediately after this game I started playing days gone for the first time and I'm honestly having 10x more fun than I did with enshrouded. Perhaps after I finish this run I'll start it again on the survival 2 difficulty.

The game's going in a really good direction in most things. 2 things I'd advice the team behind the game to consider for future content would be more weapon types for both players and enemies and friendly NPCs scattered around the map with little storylines that might have side quests to do with them.

There is one thing I would like changed about enshrouded. most of the loot is leveled, which means it is completely obsolete if you do the quest later than intended (especially endgame sweeping everything up). It would be nice if the loot was similar to Elden ring; where you can somewhat anticipate the kinds of treasures are available at each kind of landmark, and just about all loot is viable no matter how far you are at in the game. Enshrouded could do this by adding unique properties to rare items, and making a way to upgrade them along with your character. Building blocks are also always a good find regardless of level, so more of those please. there are a few ways that the designers can make finding treasure more interesting; I hope they implement these ideas, or similar

Enshrouded looks as shallow as a puddle but is way deeper than the ocean. It is a voxel based game just like minecraft you could literally dig your way to the center of the world. So if minecraft was and is still very popular why would not this game?

i played like 65 hours of this game when it first came out, this game is fucking fantastic, they did so many things right. the exploration reminded me of my first playthroughs through bethesda games, and i love survival games, this game is so good and im so excited for its future

Enshrouded is like Minecraft and ToTK hada baby . It actually gives the player alot of freedom to do what ever they want to do . Perhaps the hardest thing for Keen game to do is balance the the game around players ability to cheese certain aspects of it.. Where i had alot of fun was exploring and finding nice loot in the off the beaten path out of the way places.

I am bot a fan of survival games either. What I really like about Enshrouded is it's RPG elements. The skill tree is pretty big and skills can be mixed and matched freely. If you don't like it it's very easy to reset the skills and try a new build. I spent a lot of time exploring and experimenting with the environment. There is a lot to explore and it's only about 30% of the map. Characters top out at level 25. After about 150 hours in game, all the quests are done and there are a few achievements left to do that I don't care about doing. I am awaiting the next content update. I could try to build an uber base but I don't care about building all that much either. I'm just biding my time.

Subnautica was my first survival game. Almost gave up on it in the first hour because I kept dying and it stresses me out so much. Glad I stuck with it. One of the best exploration games ever made. Enshrouded is super chill in comparison. You don't need to eat and sleep, food only gives you buffs. So you spend hours working on a base without having to worry about survival. I like this. Subnautica is a much better game, also looks better. But I'm having a great time with Enshrouded so far, I've only just started a couple of days ago though.

1. That body retrieval on the side of the cliff you had trouble jumping to... could easily have been solved with a pickaxe. Pickaxe can terraform pretty far away from the player, you could just take a swing or two to make a footing there and easily picked up your loot. 2. You didn't have to go back for an axe, you can actually damage the Root with any weapon - they just take longer. Besidee, you should always have an fellaxe and pickaxe on you at all times. 3. You don't have to let the enemy do their move and move in over and over. You could have easily crafted yourself a shield and parried all of their attacks. It seems to me like every problem you had were because you didn't make the most basic baby's first items to learn the ropes. These are all items you can craft 10 minutes into the game... I feel like your review is not really constructive or useful since every single "complaint" you have is answered by: "one of the first things you make solves that problem."

Hello Matty, I know this is off topic as it pertains to your video, but I really need your help with this. I wish to know how to get Nolvus running on my Steam Deck OLED. I went ahead and bought Skyrim Special Edition from the steam store along with the anniversary upgrade. I have been trying to get the Nolvus installer to run for two days now but all it does is tell me that the directory where I have Nolvus installed is too long and it requires as short a directory as possible. I can’t see where to create my own directory in desktop mode so I know I must be doing something wrong. Did I mention I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m just flying by the seat of my pants? This is why I need step by step instructions from someone who has successfully done this and is willing to impart their knowledge with me. I’m sure it’s a way simpler process than what I am putting myself through, basically I’m “running around” like a chicken without a head. I like survival games, but I got bored of this one after about 15hrs. I try to jump back in. But it just feels like tedium to get anything done. Maybe I'm just burnt out on the genre now?

It’s a game that worked at launch, no cash shop, play with friends, fly, dig, build, grapple, craft, adventure, and fight. It does everything well and without bugs. Its graphics are similar to WoW. It has it all. It’s also not $69.99. It’s $29 and worth every penny. It’s super fun

It wasn't for me, my own fault, I saw that it had souls like combat and thought I could move past that. I think I am one of the few gamers that just does not find souls type combat fun at all. It's one of the reasons I wont give Elden Ring a chance. That being said my dislike for these games doesnt mean they arent good, they just aren't my thing. Enshrouded definitely had a beautiful world.

I’ve been enjoying enshrouded, though I have yet to go into the elixir well rotfl went in there one time. Got obliterated by the monster down there and decided to avoid it for now by spending my time gathering items, making armor and building 😂😂😂

Your complaints are like, "I fell." Uh ... It sucks to suck. It's not the developers fault you suck. They aren't capable of fixing that. You are bad at survival games. That big plant you didn't have the axe to cut down ... you could have just used your weapon. It would have taken a while, but you could have used it. Also, who doesn't carry a cutting axe and a pick with them all the time in a survival game? What makes this game great is that they DON'T hold your hand too much. So, you're our of luck if your complaints are "I fell off a cliff" and "They didn't tell me what to do." This was the second best survival/building game I've ever played only slightly below Valheim.

AAA greed hounds focus on micros and battle passes. The indies focus on making a complete game. Start supporting these kind of devs, and quit buying the garbage AAA passes off as games. I have it wish listed, but I would rather wait till 1.0 myself.
