the good old beating and banging stage of big blue, got to love autoracing

Melee will be fine. Imo we should go back to our roots and support our locals/regions. It’s clear that the majors/esports landscape is unsustainable except for a handful of people. Build from within and grow from there

Most esports orgs also make very questionable financial decisions, from using the revenue to do what look like risky "passion projects," to GOING PUBLIC AND LISTING ON THE NASDAQ. All that on content-creation revenue.

Almost all of the figureheads of smash have proven themselves to be drastically immature and irresponsible in a shocking amount of situations. Tons of them are way over their heads and are too terminally online to have any instrospect and learn from situations. The only way smash gets any better is a complete collapse and purge of all those at the top.

These other esports are what we call "new poor". Melee is old poor.

It would be cool if there was an option regularly on slippi to play with those stages. Sorta like for fun and for glory

I feel like e-sports teams with smash players (for the most part) have really let themselves down when it comes to making the TEAM a product. When you root for the Cowboys or some other regular sports group there is so much to do as a fan. A clear brand ethos/identity to advocate for, special events to attend, merch for fans to buy and show their support, that kind of thing. Where is that for say, FlyQuest? Tempo Storm? For the most part, as a casual melee goober, I couldn't tell you ANYTHING about most of the orgs out there. Much less consider myself enough of a fan to actually BUY anything they were selling. But even if I did have a clear sense of their brand - Melee fans (myself included) are so much more likely to show support for the players, since we do that already! So as a team you have to showcase your commitment to the game, the people on your team, and forge a place for yourself in the scene, before I'm going to even consider subscribing to your enamle pin club or whatever. The way Golden Gaurdians is building their fanbase up just seems to make so much more sense as a long term investment. I hope other orgs take note of how much people have embraced them and make similar moves.

This is a very good point. The orgs should push doubles in melee, maybe sponsor the doubles prize pool and make their players team up in org teams. It would give another dimension to doubles, while also upping the stakes.

One thing I think Panda did right was the content pieces featuring players from all their different games. As a melee and ult fan not only was it great to see the likes of Plup and Mars together but this kind of content also got me into rooting for fgc players like Punk and Hook and watching their games where I had no interest before

Most of them do have merch stores containing a few items but for smash specifically they're pretty lackluster in terms of selection, and you would have to go out of your way to even know this stuff exists. And as you've stated, there's no network for these things to be reached by organic fan interaction.

2:42 lol most definitely not for profit, Ludwig is literally burning money to pay these players because he loves Melee. There is no break even or profit return, fighting games, let alone smash are a single needle in the vast ecosystem that is eSports. We are not of public interest there for we are not of profit. Go play league of legends, CSGO, Dota 2 or something if you want to make money. Not fighting games.

LG and GG are snapping up players left and right, they give me hope that the scene will still grab new, interested sponsors (especially since Ludwig stated that Smash contracts are significantly cheaper than other games)
