Look at the active player numbers from 2012-13 and now. We barely hit 33K anymore. Back then you hit 45+ easely on sundays. + You get way more server drops in 2016 than you did back then.

Eve online is brilliant fun if you have a second monitor, that way during the more boring moments you can be browsing the internet or playing another game. But it's rare to see a game which is still going strong after 12 years so they seem to have created an afk masterpiece.

As a KZbinr looking for a good series to do that I really want to do, this has inspired me to see how I can help new players figure out: 1. What EVE is and if it is worth it 2. If you can make the isk for a PLEX within a free trial (14 or 21 days), trying different attempts 3. How to get setup to go to low, or even better yet, null sec in EVE (maybe even Wormhole Space) Thank you sir!

billy elderfield I would like to take the time and just say that yes you can plex your account in the 21 day trial and I have done it myself...There is alot of risk involved becasue you cant do it in highsec....If your willing to scan and do Relic sites in nulsec then its easy to make enough to Plex your account. I made close to 350 million isk in my first 4 days of playing eve online on a trial account in a ship that barely cost 3 million isk...Just have to ask yourself are you willing to loose a few ships to make that kind of money in game.

I enjoy seeing people say EVE is dying, yet it has been around for twelve years and counting. As people said - haters gonna hate. I'll say the obvious - EVE is not for the weak. I don't have that much free time, but in the little time that I have I still play EVE and do what I like, so it's not true you must be online 12+ hours to be effective in the game. It's about being smart. Survival of the fittest. You learn everything the hard way. There were no tutorials when I began playing it. It's like the real life - no tutorial, learn everything for yourself or from someone more experienced. That's why it's MMO - plenty of people out there, many are helpful to new players, there's even the EVE Uni with classes and teachers. If you are a sci-fi fan, you'll surely like this game. Oh, and like Markee said, it's an intellectual game, so make your own conclusion if you should be playing it.

I am a new player, and this is the best game I ever tried. It was a bit hard to get into, and the initial learning curve was really steep. but the tutorial missions help you get into it, and you get free ships as part of the training. You have to invest a lot of work into getting ahead, but I think that is a good thing, basically. Even after a week or so, I was able to buy a destroyer and outfit it for a mission, only to get blown away near the end, in the final battle, and that stung. Cost me more than 3 million ISK to outfit a new one and try again. And I had to spend some time mining in the asteroid fields to get enough ISK to be on an even keel for buying guns and ammo. But it felt pretty good to blow those pesky pirates to kingdom come when I made my second run at their headquarter in my new version of the destroyer, with some new skills on top. It would have been a much more bland experience if there had been waypoints, saves and microtransactions, if you could buy your way to the top with a credit card. Then EVE would be flooded with kids in capital class battlecruisers, and where is the fun in that? I can't see this game get old on me anytime soon, as it has a LOT of challenging areas and events. There are places where you get killed practically instantly if you go there alone without a suitable skill set and a good strategy, and that is a REAL challenge. I learned that the hard way, and the next time I go there, I go in prepared. I got a long time plan for that, and when it pans out, it will be sweet.

kaptaintripps I see a lot of pro social behavior in the game as well. One noob was complaining that he had gotten ganked and was flat broke. No ISK for a new mining vessel or fitting. Then one of the other guys in the chat just gave him a fitted Venture and a couple millions ISK and invited him to mining fleet. Like "Now you got a vessel and ISK, and you'll make plenty more mining in a boosted fleet." That is kinda cool.

Had 130 people around the world helping me make capital ships with a plethora of POS's. I still remember buying my first moon from a group moving to null sec for 1billion isk. It was a Dysprosium moon enough said )))) Real life divorce etc pulled me out but recently I popped back in hence checking out video content again to catch up! Fair and good summary. This is what all MMOs were like prior to their emergence onto the Internet with the exception of Ultima Online. After EverQuest they became nothing but variations on the Skinner Box. Best way to get into Eve is to join a multi-game guild with an established Eve player base. You will find yourself in -1.0 space and having fun there within a week or two.

Eve isn't mainly about ship progression, the amount of time that sinks into character developing is IMMENSE. However, it has probably the most diversity in skills that you can train on a character and since it takes a lot of time, it makes you pick what you really want next. Your skills progress while you're out doing whatever you want to do, having fun ingame. And btw, you can train and fit a cloak within 5 days if you so chose and then go to lowsec and succesfully do distribution missions.

ralikdiver the problem with corps, is that they all eventually go to pvp, because that is where the money is, as well corps are more like jobs than games. they assign you a job and you have to do it or get kicked out.

Joseph Rosario If thats your experience then you've been in the wrong end of space. Make sure you get along with the people your joining, what corp or alliance it is matters not. If you can't get along with them because they don't want to play with others or just in it for ISK for themselves then don't be afraid to leave and go else where for another corp that you may/maynot feel happy with. For example I got booted from my corp just for saying I was looking forward to the july changes to sov. People like that you don't really want to be playing with.

I'm new to EVE Too, (played for around 24~48 hours total) and 2 of the biggest "issues" I have at the moment, is that it feels like there's so much to take in, my mind can't keep up with remembering everything. (but I'm sure that many others had the same issue when they started) The 2nd one is that, again, might be because I'm still a First-Timer, and only know a fraction of the game, but it feels like even mid-distance trips takes too many gate jumps

I think this game is really, REALLY cool and has a TON of potential. It's really fun and all the work is really worth it in a lot of ways, the sense of progression is incredibly satisfying. However, it's STUPIDLY complicated and is ABSOLUTELY no fun for new players at all. This video didn't answer the original question; There's basically nothing for new players other than the tutorials, and going into lo-sec space is a complete non-option unless you have an experienced player to help you. There's a lot of high risk, high reward gameplay but it doesn't exist until you spend an unreasonable amount of time playing the game.
@ToastyWaffle456
@ToastyWaffle456 9 жыл бұрын
+Reed Pratt What do you mean going into low-sec is a non option? Within a week or two you can start winning some 1v1 frigate fights. For example you can enlist in factional warfare and be guaranteed to get fights if your looking to get into pvp right away. Or within your first month you could grab a covert ops exploration ship and hack data and relic sites to make yourself large chunks of isk for new ships. Tons of different options and today they added the ability to trade skillpoints with in game items which can allow new players to get up in skillpoints faster if you have the isk available. I feel like a lot of people have your mentality during the free trial and this is why this games pop never surpasses 30-50k during peak hours.
@Ralipsi
@Ralipsi 9 жыл бұрын
+Reed Pratt On the contrary. New players can do a lot of things. First off, they can plan what kind of gameplay they want to experience in the future. New Eden as a lot to offert : miner, producer, trader, pirate, spy, mission runner, incursion runner, anomaly runner, PvP (Factional Warfare, fleet Roaming, solo PVP (gate camp), Wormhole explorer, Anomaly runner.. corp or alliance manager... And in each of those possibilities, you can do it with different play style and doctrines (role and fit). Possibilities are endless. As a newbie, you need to join an experienced corp to learn faster and better the deepth of the game. Since this game is on slow pace mode, you have plenty of time to discover who you are and what you want to do. And you need to spend time to earn what you need in order to reach and buy what you need... in order to do what you want to do :). The point with Eve-Online is that, the goals are yours so set. No question mark above NPC head, no absolute rule neither... New Eden is an evolutive universe. What ever you do as a certain degree of influence on the rest of the world. Its not like the static Azeroth where, what ever you do or do not change nothing at all. In Eve, you can make a difference. Your path is yours to decide. But your freedom has a cost : Since there is no clear path, no predefined goal, you need to work on your goals, learn to make good moves and get accointed with the righ people. It is much more important to chose wisely your behavior with other players and your relations in Eve than it is to choose your skills or your ships :) The adrenaline and a sense of community are an absolute drug for a gamer and Eve-Online is the best at this because in Eve, the lost are real and painfull. The victories are absolut deligh and triumph! The risk takers, the one who have the balls to dare the greater risks can be highly rewarded. You find that nowere else in videogames. But first thing first... a newbie need to learn.. And that learning curve is quite something! ;) Eve-Online is not for immature gamers. If you're the kind of player who need to be constantly doing something.. if your impatient and are not able to sit back, feel and reflect where you are and what,s going on, then go back to videogames for kids. ;)

+Reed Pratt this is totally wrong, now i'm not saying the game isn't the most complex mmo ever but new players can try almost any aspect of the game within reason, to say all they can do is the toots is bullshit! New players can earn millions of isk per hour ninja salvaging, or they can get into exploration without much training at all, low level trading, frig pvp (SOME OF THE BEST PVP IN GAME), hell, a new account can join a 0.0 corp and get straight into the most hardcore aspects of the game if he wants to. The arcs are kind of the theme park element of the game, one mission leads to another kind of thing and while they are worth doing those that follow that and nothing else in the early stages of the game are playing eve wrong. In eve the game isn't the game, the players and how they interact are the game.

The issue with Eve online is the fact that you have to spend a lot of time online. For people who work 40+ hours a week, and have 2 kids and a house and a wife, its not easy to get time to invest in the game. The game itself is great! its just a major time sink.

The grammar and bad writing on these comments are awful :-S To the important bit: Great video, I think your point about the fact that you can be proud to achieve something in EVE is spot on. When playing WoW your goal is lvl 90, which is a grind-tastic road, then you reach lvl 90, (which you can do in a weekend BTW), you finally can raid, then you raid in hopes that you get that mount or piece of gear. In EVE you have "real-life" mechanics, where there are no "character levels", you increase your money by working hard, you train skills by investing the time needed to learn them. Even the economy in EVE is a free-market economy, where prices are non-regulated and cut-throat business is every-day. (a friend of mine wrote his master's dissertation in economics, based on a year playing EVE). EVE is just rewarding and different. It will probably be around when I am in my seventies :-)

Free to play, or a way to get in-game currency without violating the EULA. And EVE is a very broad game, you can specialise in a particular ship you like fairly quickly. If you want to get into a particular area of gameplay, there are loads of corporations (guilds/player groups) who would help you out. Even a week old player can contribute to a PvP op.

The last option I'm going to mention, and in my favorite, is station-trading. It's a 2 week train to a decent trade-alt and tbh you can get started within 1 day. All it really takes is capital, and the more you have, the more you'll make. I went the GTC route and started trading with the ISK I got. Now I'm making up to 200m isk/week in profits, logging in for ~15 mins/day to update orders. :) I hope you get back into EVE and try some of these tips. It really is an amazing game. Fly safe o7

They've got a number of packages, best way to figure this one would probably be to buy a one month subscription, see how it goes, and then move up to a three month, six month, or one year plan. It's all listed on their site. There's no real necessary time dedication, you can literally set your skills on train and just leave them to go - they train in real time rather than in game time - so you can pop in literally whenever you have time on your schedule. In game time is expensive however.

He's right btw, it is one of the most hardcore mmo's out there, i pvp as that's the direction the game is pointed towards and everyone ends up there in the end times of playing, but some like to keep the pve going for their career, played for 3 years so far, with 370 days of play time, which is around 8800 hoursish, thats not just leaving it logged in all day and not doing anything, i'm actively playing all the time it's on. Its one of the only games that seem to get my heart racing to an extent it feels like you're being held at gunpoint, never been held up though thank goodness, but that'd be a description of the feeling you get when you pvp, Worth it? Yes, but some people don't get a grasp on it, don't be disheartened if you think it's easy and end up in the deep end, it's a tough game to get a grasp on, which is why i like it most cause it's difficult, a lot of experienced players or rather incompetent ones leave eventually and end up telling everyone it's just like a excel document, it's not, it's far from that, if anyone new to the game does need help i'm available for questions, guidance and help, you'd just need to find this name in eve and message it. Game pays for itself, i make my plex in just 2-3 hours of PVE, it's really easy now for newer players to do the same aswell.

I'll tell you one interesting piece of information I discovered while discussing it with some players. One person stated her (female avatar) year long API was checked every day by the same person. I assume she would otherwise think that someone is manually typing in her API key every day, which, of course, is extremely unlikely. It's far more likely he just has a program that automatically retrieves the API daily. This would imply he's checking other API's as well.

These are level 4 missions which you'd reach in 1/2 months depending on how much you play. 1 month if you play eve for like 50 hours in the first month. By 50 hours of playing I really mean playing and doing missions. in that time you train your character because you can train it in the background. Nearly 2 months if you don't really have that much time and you're more of a casual player. So yeah between 1 and 2 months.

A down side is that as a new player it is nearly impossable to pay for one, especially with very little time. however in a few months time you could have PI (planets) set up and make money for you. This will most likely not be enough but can get you half way or latter on all the way (low sec makes more null even more and so on). Anoughter is incursions, once you get a battleship you can run these for your isk. one weekend can make more than enough.

There is a Mac client for EVE. And your Mac should effectively run it as well. I have a 2010 MBP 15" and it works great in space. However, you can expect your Mac to strain when in the character creation and Captain's Quarters (the latter you can disable after your first visit). And they offer a 14 day free trial on their website.

This was awesome Marqee! I just installed Eve yesterday and I think I might actually enjoy this game. I feel exactly like you do about what inspires one to play or not play. I've just written up a "first impressions" blog of Eve and was looking for some videos to add to the end for "further reference". I'll definitely add yours. If anyone wants to see it, look for "mmobabble" at the Wordpress site.

You still have to invest some time into even training your skills. You just don't randomly click a skill and go "Ok, I'll train Cybernetics to level V now". There has to be some planning you go by. Since the introduction of the certification planner, I've been using that as my layout to train my skills up. I'm almost to elite certifications in the skills I've trained.

I've been playing since 2009, yes it takes time, but it takes that long to get used to the mechanics, the modules, and what works with what ship and what that fit is capable of, if you had one fit for all that'd get pretty boring very quickly, there is so much in EvE to learn, there are thousands of systems, and hundreds of ships, to experience, the community within Eve is one of the greatest you will meet or chat to. fly safe and see you around the systems.

I have an alt account and within 14 days of the free trial I'd managed to train a good basis of skills enough to pilot cruisers with decent backup skills. More than enough to do L2 missions with ease. My main however is into piracy and it is fantastic fun. If you don't have a lot of skills or are still learning you don't have to fly solo. Look for a corp/alliance that will help you learn and give advice.

The question is what can't you do to make isk? Depends on what you like to do. For instance you can do industrial stuff. Like buying minerals or ore off the market and building ships. Or mining if you really like that (boring as hell tbh). Missioning (lvl4 missions give you good isk and the loyalty points you make off of em can give you nice faction stuff). Tons more to do. If you play you can PM me in game. Look for Croaky Sparkles and shoot me a message.

In a sense, even if a player doesn't give out their financial API, it could be assembled from any purchases or sales you make on market since it gives your name out to the buyer/seller when you sell it. Whereas it's a small security flaw if the data has to be hand copied and pasted or something - like if API's could only be seen with CCP's own software. It's much bigger when they're just passing the data to third party software as variables.

Played for YEARS. Finished in a Caldari mothership (Wyvern) and spent most of those days at a POS... Used my 2nd account to PVP with in null sec with a couple big alliances, it was a game of 'who has the most people online at that time'. Decided to sell both account (made a LOT of money... :P) and never look back. I have looked back, some of the new options, graphics and ships are tempting, but its the same game of 'who has the most people online at that time'. PvP chills like NO OTHER GAME!

the skills in eve are training in real time so weather your logged in or not they will train just remember to keep the skill que full you dont want it to run out. and yes you do loose your ship and everything fitted to it and everything you had in the cargo hold but that is the fun of trying not to get blown up while trying to blow the other guy up

Granted it will take some time to get enough SP for that, I'd guess 3-4 months if you focus your training. Then there's buying GTC and converting them to PLEX as you said, and it's really good isk/hour if you want to go that route: I did started with that as it took me 2 hours to make enough cash working IRL to get a GTC, and I don't even want to know how many hours I'd have to play for the ~1b isk a GTC is worth. [once again, cont.]

At the moment it costs 485,000,000 isk for a 1 month subscription. If you don't have a planetary interactions setup that works while you're not playing this could take days of mining with a barge built for max. mining...

I can also agree with this video, although, for the 14 day trial, you won't even begin to experience the actual game, that little 14 days you wont even see the tip of the iceberg. Eve is a game of intellect, patiance and determination, as far as the missions are concerned, do all the beginning missions, you get free skill books, ships and just an extremely basic idea of what to do and to give you an idea of the differant paths you can take. Eve has a VERY steep learning curve...

I don't think the new player gets a bonus, however the person who signed-up the new player will get either plex, a faction catalyst (inter-bus etc.) or something (else I can't remember). Also, they must pay for ht account, not plex it (otherwise no one gets rewards). Hope this helps any new players to EVE :)

This much I agree on. SP is in to keep people playing longer. But its better than going out into the field, and mining asteroids until it gets to level 5, right? It trains when your offline, so It doesn't really matter. When Im training Mining 5, I can be off transporting items and making Isk, or making things to sell on the market. The Skill point system allows you to have more flexibility than doing something until its a certain level does.

I love EVE. It's the only mmorpg that's pulled off the sandbox and kept it. SWG was my gaming home back in the day before they tried to mirror WoW and it was an awesome sandbox. Now EVE stands alone and strong in that segment. The depth of the game is incredible. The only thing I would change (though I dont know how id change it) is the combat style. I feel it can be a bit boring unless you're in a huge battle. The simple target/activate turrets and wait till the target dies is a little dull and can be unexciting when it takes me 10 minutes or more to chew through all targets in a mission. Other than that, EVE has no flaw in my opinion.

it's so perfect that you mentioned "trammelizing" of UO. I was thinking of that scenario as you spoke about the topic of making the new player experience better. Trammelizatiorn resulted in skyrocketing inflation that destroyed UO's economy. It also resulted in the probability that you would max out your character's ability much higher. There was no risk to camping while grinding skills. Trammelization was the downfall of UO.

It isn't even about Ship development, however. It's about experience development. You do develop your ship, but you also develop your connections, relationships, and scope of available tasks. Many players dive into eve trying to Go It Alone. While this is viable to some aspects, it severely limits your experience. The true spirit of the game comes with interacting with others, being the point of an online game in earnest.

Okay, I remember the weapons bug. That was a very specific problem that was identified and fixed shortly after a major patch. It was annoying but there was apparently a published workaround on the first day. I never experienced lag outside of a few times when I bombed alliance battles. CCP isn't responsible for your lag. If it takes you 15 hours to get 500 mil, you need a better income source. I was doing 100+ mil an hour with a 10-month old character.

Not really, mostly just experience. I've played for almost 3 years now and my ISK gain has pretty much doubled every few months when i find a better way. I've made more in my last 6 months than the previous 2 and a half years put together. Currently, Faction warfare is a good way. If you can get into a corp/alliance with good space, nullsec is a good option too. I've lost as much as I've gained there though.

If Eve-online had a player wipe, or clean server, like some dawning of a new age, I would be all over it, but the asker's questions are valid. Even if they permitted open-play on serenity (skills unlocked). Then it would at least permit 'full play' without needing to wait years. I'll even give another idea, if in-game players could permit new users to activate their clones, so a version of an experienced player could be controlled (mercenary style) by a new player... Go, go - unrestricted play!

Completely forgot about things like Faction Warfare (some Corps welcome newbies and offer lots of PvP as well), mining and production Corporations (always on the lookout for newbies for lots of mundane tasks, tbh), Solo piracy (takes patience and a thick skin) or simply trading in a mission hub (put that economics major to a use). Not to mention the meta-gaming stuff that make EVE so unique, like spying or scamming. Yes, it needs some getting used to and experience but NOT skillpoints.

The risk in eve online is really dependent on which path you take. If you want to be an industrialist and work markets and move merchandise around then yes you have a great deal of risk. If you go for a combat pilot you risk nearly nothing as you can earn as much or more isk (game cash) then an industrialist and you can fight back against loss.

It can be done, but the process is literally a full time job, 8 hours a day for the 21 day trial. So, yes, it is possible, yes it has been done, but the people that manage it tend to have help on understanding how to play (21 days comes from a friend that already plays) and on occasion people will buy your first plex for you if they figure you've got the ability to garner some income by the time that extra 30 days are up.

I used to play EVE, lived in nullsec and had over 60:1 K:D ratio at the time of quitting. The game seems really intriguing at first, but soon you realize it's all about a) paying CCP to have an advantage and b) having more friends than the other team. The outcome of your fights will be mostly based on the aforementioned resources, rather than actual player skill. I would recommend that you rather play something like Dota 2. The game is free to play, in my opinion more difficult due to its faster pace, and your success will from the very start be determined by your actual skill rather than paid-for skill points and isk.

Jay D HD I have 1k+ kills mostly from nullsec small gang PvP against much larger fleets, so bitch please. I know exactly what I'm talking about and yes you are paying CCP for skill points, whether it's through monthly subscription fees, personal time spent grinding plex or other means. Even though there is no single "I win" fit in EVE, the PvP as a whole considering the amount of practical ways to fit your ships and the pace of combat is vastly inferior to Dota 2. But hey - Dota 2 only has 10M+ unique players per month and tournaments with prize pools in the 10-15M USD range, so probably your space blob simulator for slow people has higher skill requirements to be successful, right?

Jay D HD Sorry to see that you ran out of arguments already and had to resort to ad hominem but hey - feelings of grandeur are quite common among active EVE players so you're not alone in your delusion and if it makes you happy, you should probably keep doing what you're doing. All I'm saying is that compared to games with a significantly larger player base and mechanics that favor actual player skill rather than paid-for virtual skill points, the skill level in EVE is garbage.

its not what you said, its how you said it.. (the first time) and i wasn't wrong in what i said,, you cant bye the skill points in eve, in order to achieve the use of items at their lower to higher levels you will have to wait for the appropriate time to go bye, it has NOTHING to do with how much money you want to put into the game. you can sink 1000 dollars and turn it into billions of isk and it will do nothing for how fast you achieve your skills. as for you grandeur comment have another look at what you said and what i said,, you made an ass of yourself,, bow out gracefully.

First of all, you get a 21 day trial (you get this by asking a player to give you a trial to your email, he'll happily do this since he gets free 30 days play time if you buy the game). Then once you got 21 days, you buy the game. The 21 days don't disappear, they add up to 51 days. If you're good and smart, you only need to buy another 30 days and you'll be able to get enough money to not buy subscription with real money anymore. If you're not as good, you'll need to buy a sub 3 times at MOST.
