So the two guys with butt plugs were the choreographers for all of the fight scenes, they also trained everyone who needed it in seven different forms of TKD. One of the directors was the guy who got spanked at the end. 😂 They truly took the script and had FUN with it while they were recording it. Stephanie Tsu (Joy/Jobu) tells amazing stories about how the cast cleaned up in between takes, every member of the cast because they were so excited to get to the next take. They just loved being there as a family filming together. James Hong, the grandfather, is 94 and has 674 acting credits to date. This is the first time he has been acknowledged. It is the first time Michelle Yeoh, who has been acting since her teenage years, has been acknowledged. This movie is not only a piece of art, It is one of the best films I’ve ever seen.

Don’t forget Ke Huy Quan, who’s acted in timeless classics like Indiana Jones and The Goonies, who more than 30 years ago dropped acting not because he wanted to but because there wasn’t any roles for an Asian man, has been acknowledged!

lol one of the Daniels being the guy who got spanked is iconic - reminds me of all those other actor/directors like Adam Sandler who always give themself the hot supermodel wife + mandatory x scene. "No, trust me guys - its vital for the film's plot that i get ball-gagged, choked, and spanked by Michelle Yeoh, I swear!"

I am sorry but i do mean to say this respectfully but the way you said how Michelle Yeoh and James Hong have been acknowledged for the first time rubbed me the wrong way...since both of them have been beloved by people here in Asia for a long time and while i think its nice that Americans finally get to see them and acknowledge them, its not like they need the validity..why should be judge someone by American standards anyway...there are Hong Kong stars and Bollywood stars richer and more successful than Hollywood stars and beloved by Asian fans but it feels kinda iffy when someone says they finally made it when America acknowledges them...and it bothers me so much when someone suggests otherwise

Same with South American Latinos. It's weird when you're born there but grow up in Canada. I absolutely adore this film, its so full of details. Some I've snapped up: When Jobu turns the first security guard into confetti, she just switched him with his piñata self. The first time Evilyn verse jumps she has to tell Deidre that she loves her, because Deidre thinks she's unlovable and that's how Evelyn helps her in the end, showing her she's not. When Evilyn talks with Waymond's voice in the office, it's because she needs to learn how to fight with kindness, like him, to save Joy. I also think that Gonggong changes his mind about Joy because he's introduced to Becky. He's only ever seen Joy as someone who destroys, but at that point he learns that she can also love. And lastly, Joy must have been living her worst self in the alpha verse, because that's the Joy that learned how to verse jump like that.
@bobatea5695
@bobatea5695 Жыл бұрын
with your last point; its stated in the movie the reason jobu tupaki (alpha joy) can verse jump so well is because alpha evelyn pushed her too far when doing experiments on her, therefor shattering jobu tupakis mind, a piece going into every single multiverse in existence. pretty good metaphor for the consequences of the stress and hardship laundromat evelyn places on laundromat joy, shattering her mind and essentially giving her depression.

@tanuki no yami oh yes, an philosophically Waymond and Joy are polar opposites, just as the bagel and the googly eyes!
@tommygilbreath
@tommygilbreath Ай бұрын
Some corrections to your interpretations: Not exactly with the pinata selves: remember that when we see the pinatas they are filled with candy, not confetti. When Evelyn talks with Wamond's voice, remember that it was a rejected jump (yellow ear buds) so not intended. Gonggong never had to change his mind about Joy / never showed any real opinion about her. You're thinking of Alpha Gonggong who wanted to kill Jobu. It was never Gonggong who needed to change, it was Evelyn who was in need of accepting Joy. Lastly, no way to know that Alpha Joy was living her worst self, her transformation was forced by her mother in that world. She didn't learn to verse jump, it was forced upon her.

I feel like a lot of people don't pick this up the first time, but in the beginning, Becky and Evelyn already knew it each other, that's why Becky calls her "Evelyn" and then corrects herself to say "Mrs. Wang," which implies that things are strained between them because of Evelyn's inability to accept her daughter's sexuality. Also, I'm pretty sure Becky was referring to Gong Gong when she said that "Old people are very wise", because I think Joy was suggesting that Becky help set up the New Year's party so that she can spend time with Gong Gong, since Joy wants to introduce him to her girlfriend :)

I loved the meaning of this film. I’ve been in the same situation (without all the alternate universes of course), feeling like there was nothing for me, nothing I could do that would matter, feeling like I was nothing and I had no purpose. My mum didn’t understand at first, and made some mistakes, and I got to my lowest. Then she tried everything she could to help me and make me understand there were people who loved me, and I was capable of becoming a great person. Needless to say this movie makes me sob.

What I love the most about this movie is how creative it is. It's like you can tell when filmmakers don't care and when filmmakers *don't care*. This is a story they wanted to tell and you can tell they didn't care about what others thought of it. That's why I get annoyed when people say "it's a bad movie, so stupid, too complicated, a lot happens, it's weird, it didn't deserve anything it got" because okay, that's your opinion, but this movie was not bad in terms of creativity and taking risks; this is what art should be about. Do you want to go overboard? Do it. Do you want to explore profound topics? Do it. Do you want to showcase certain aspects? Do it. What's stopping you? You're a creator, create! Don't think of studios or the money they'll give you, don't stop yourself from telling the stories you want to tell even when they seem weird to others. At the end of the day, at least one person will connect with it and that should be enough. But even if no one does, this is what you wanted to do, are you okay with how it turned out? Such an amazing example of loving the craft and respecting it. I love it so much. (Plus, I'm super weak for performances like the ones from this movie, people portraying different personalities, that "switch" when they go from one to the other? I'm here for it). This is how you make a movie. I just love the idea of everyone involved being satisfied with the result, awards or not, they got to made their movie, it was crazy and it worked! How amazing that must be. (And the editing!). When you said: I didn't know they (A24) had a hand in this (at the beginning). Just imagine if they hadn't. A24 is *that* company and I'm so glad they're involved in this, because I'm sure any other company would have told the Daniels to go away with their "weird and chaotic" movie. I could talk about this for hours hahahaha. Anyway, I'm so happy you reacted to this! It was amazing! Thank you for this video! (Sorry for any mistakes, but English is not my first language).

@31:46 - lol. you broke me on that! Perfectly placed meme. A "Here's johnny!!" at the head tilt moment might work to. I've think I've watched over 30 reactions of this movie at this point (just look for someone who could see what I see) and yours is probably the most entertaining one!

I love me some Ms. Jamie Lee, but the fact that Stephanie Hsu didn't win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for this will take me a long time to get over. Oh, and in case no one's pointed it out yet, the VFX were done by a team of seven people and the editing was done largely by one guy (Paul Rogers) at home using Premiere Pro.

Love love love this movie. And I love your ridiculous edits. I knew you would get a kick out of this. Also, I started cracking up when you said having the tongue of the shoe tucked down grosses you out, and thought "Oh honey, so much more grossness coming your way in the midst of this masterpiece."

I’ve cried all 10 times I’ve watched this Lmaoo but getting my parents to watch it the first time they were like I don’t get it… after explaining and getting them to watch it a second time I think things are clicking more. My dad said the pace of especially joy/jobu reminds of the internet and TikTok. I think those of us who instantly get it are people who have experienced the internet in a similar way because a lot of commentary talks about the multiverse as a metaphor for the internet.
