Is Fae Farm Worth It? My Review After 100+ Hours!

You are the only person ive heard talk about how mid combat in dungeons you'll auto swap to your tools sometimes. I thought i was going crazy every time it happened to me. Im a combat fiend who likes cozy games, so i was getting really mad that i was losing control in a fight, especially in dungeon 2. Those statues hurt SO MUCH, and I literally died because i went for an interupt and my weapon swapped to tools.

I legitimately have PTSD from those statues, lol! 😂 To be fair, it hasn’t happened to me in the past week, so I suspect it may have been patched recently, which would be amazing. But man, it made me die way too many times in the miasma mines!

Honestly? I’m enjoying this game. Though, there are many issues that I have found. The NPCs have 0 personality. Once I married my spouse of choice, I realised nothing changed. Just the same dialogue options as before, no new interactions like hugging them, and they don’t even come inside your house! They just sadly stand on your farm in the rain. I was really disappointed, since my spouse of choice had such an interesting story, but I only got the 5 date cutscenes to learn that. I think this could be fixed by having special cutscenes for gaining more hearts after marriage and adding a special interaction and dialogue after marriage. Maybe even being able to still take them on dates? Though, I understand how complex that would be to add considering there are many marriage candidates there are in the game. I also dislike the festivals. All they are is some extra side quests related to the festival’s theme and then on the actual day, all the NPCs standing the same building, with one selling seasonal items. I was like “really?” when I first saw this because I was expecting at least a cutscene, but we got nothing. Honestly, it would increase my enjoyment of this game so much more if they made the festivals feel more like festivals. Decorations, costumes, celebrations. Heck, we could combine two things together and let you take your spouse on a date to the festivals! Overall, I’d give this game a 6/10. The severe pitfall of the social interactions with NPCs really made not enjoy this game as much. Festivals seem lifeless and more like an unenthusiastic family get together where nobody actually wants to be there. It is an enjoyable game, but I would most likely never recommend it until the NPCs are made more lifelike. All the other elements I’ve enjoyed, such as not having to carry around 7 different tools that take up half your inventory and decoration of your houses.

Great review. I'm like you, I don't really care about relationship in farming/cozy sim games. I really enjoyed it too. I thought I would be put off by the style, but it becomes so cozy. The animals and the combat and mines are fun. I like the little challenges. I wish the days were a tad longer - but it' is very addiciting.

Same on the length of the days, I wish we had an option to decide how fast time passes like in Wylde Flowers or My Time at Sandrock! That needs to become standard in farming/life sims IMO.

Definitely going to try the demo, but will wait for a big sale before purchasing. Really bummed that you cant get to know the npc's all that much but everything else looks really enjoyable. thank you for the review!

For me Fae Farm was like a delicous looking cake that was tragiclly under cooked: The icing looks delightful, the flavours sound awesome, and it's decorated divinely. The problem comes when you really bite into the game and realise it's core leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm reading this comment while I'm baking my dad's birthday cake, very apt comparison! The game is still good, but I feel that fixing the issues I mentioned would have really propelled it into 'great' territory for me (alongside the likes of Fantasy Life on 3DS). It is still very enjoyable, though, and I'm actually excited for the upcoming DLC. :)

@@girlontheclouds2936 best examples I can think of are the NPC's and the dungeons. I just could not care about the townspeople. Their dialogue barely changed and would reference the same thing you did awhile ago over and over. The dungeons started out fun but by the time I got to the third one it was so monotonous I gave up. It's definitely a pretty game and there are some good ideas but it feels hollow after a few hours in. That's just my experience though. For example, I'm not super into decorating and that is something there was a lot of opportunity for in this game.

Finally! A real review for the game! No I got it for free this it's amazing. Ty for that. I got it for steam on sale with a gc so it was only $15 for me. I tried the switch trial version recently & it was very much fun. I can totally see myself playing more of it. My husband will be happy because I'm finally playing my gaming PC he built for me doing exactly what he made it for 😂

I also feel that receiving a game key from the publisher should never influence a creator's opinion (and if the publisher is sponsoring the video, then it needs to be flagged as what it is - a paid ad), so I want to do my best to be objective with my reviews!

Makes sense! I guess sometimes is depends on where the creator is from to be fair - in the UK and most of the EU you legally have to disclose if you received the product for free since it can be classed as an ad, but I think the US doesn’t have to do any of this…

Fae Farm just announced that they will be having a free update which adds a new map this December . Can't wait to buy this game . I tried playing it when they gave a free full game demo and I hope they will make this game much cheaper .

I'm so surprised you are seeing no glitches on Switch. Here is what I'm seeing as of December 2nd: 1. Every few steps the game stutters a bit - frame drops 2. Some times fruit trees just lose all textures and look brownish - self corrects after a few days 3. Game crash - 'encountered an error and had to close' - twice 4. Quest givers retain gold question mark even after quest turned in and having no additional quests - happened with Cleo on job quest final completion. -- Resource leak?? Happens more when I just suspend rather than save and shut down game...

Oh no! I’m so sorry you’re having so much trouble - I honestly have not encountered a single glitch outside of the bunnies getting underfoot (though I kinda consider that a feature rather than a bug 😂). Can I ask you if you have a digital or physical copy? I have seen similar issues before (in Ooblets, I think?) and they were due to an issue with a the game file that got corrupted during download. Backing up the save data to the cloud and reinstalling the game fixed it for me!

Says no bugs, as the bunny wanders away from lure into crops while she's watering. I guess it's not a bug then, but it's really annoying that's for sure. I've had all the bugs... Despite starting this month. My chickens float or fly across the screen, my quest rewards vanish, my barn stops producing for no reason, my lure never works.... The list goes on. And my progress is trapped behind completing the floating dungeon and I despise that mine

If you don't enjoy the mine, stock up on the invisible potion and just run through each floor till you get to 25. The enemies will leave you alone so you just need to find the orbs or make the seals to get to the end

To be honest, I consider the wandering bunnies dodgy AI rather than a bug! 😂 They mostly stay around the lure, and I spend so little time on the farm that I guess I don’t really notice when they stray. But I have not experienced a single glitch/bug/ crash in my entire time playing the game on either platform outside of some slight stuttering that was fixed with the very first patch, so I promise, my review is accurate to my experience with the game. It’s a pity you don’t enjoy the floating ruins! I actually had a lot of fun in that mine (even though the moving statues gave me PTSD😆)!

7:11 so if the switch version doesn’t include the soundtrack does that mean you just don’t get the fun background music in the game unless you get the pc version? :(

Oh no, that's not it at all! The soundtrack you get in the PC deluxe edition is just the mp3 files so you can listen to it whenever you want, the game has all the BGM on either version! And there's also a brand-new free Switch demo that just released, so you can try the game out if you're thinking of getting it! :)
