As somebody who always speeds through farming game stories and dialogue, I’m actually glad that this game is pretty minimal with that kind of stuff. I’m here for the decorating, farming, and mining. So far I’m really loving the game and I haven’t really liked any of the farming sims since My time at Portia released.

I'm actually kind of relieved that the dialogue and characters are pretty surface level. I love Stardew Valley but always get overwhelmed by all the different characters and stories/gift giving/relationship mechanics, but when I would ignore them it would give me FOMO. I'm glad this game lets me live my anti-social fairy life 🧚‍♀

I think what I like most about Fae Farm is that you can basically go anywhere on the map, it makes hunting for recipes so much fun.

I think I’m going to hold off on this game after this. I was excited for this game, but I’m bummed by the reports of how limited the npc dialogue, story, and events are. I think I’ll just wait for it to go down in price a bit and have more chance for developing. Thanks for the review!

I'm gonna have to agree. My thing is, I'd expect shallow npcs from a $15-30 game. For $60 thats a no; I can stick to Palia.

If you have a PC it isn't that expensive. You can buy the standard version without the DLCs. $60 includes two DLCs one for December and one for June.

Thanks for commenting on story depth. Story's important for me if I'm playing something that I expect will be RPG-elemented, and I'm sad to hear how underwhelming the story sounds. :( But this definitely helped me from impulse buying it like I wanted to because of the faerie aesthetic. @@fluffybunnybadass It somewhat is due to the fact that your skills like foraging, combat, magic, cooking, can be leveled up and boost stats but besides that it's straight farming. If you play farming sims for the farming/grinding aspect it's a lot of fun. But if you play it for the social/dating/story aspects then it might not be enjoyable

This was an amazing, detailed, and wonderful review. I noticed that the longer people have played it the better the review, I like how they roll out a lot of the exciting bits later on in the game so you are surprised throughout! Seeing your farm made me wanna play so much today!

I appreciate the thorough review. This sounds like something I'll enjoy, especially since "mindless games to play while listening to other stuff" is my favorite genre, lol. The only thing that sounds annoying thus far from what you've said would be the limitation of only working on one quest at a time. That sounds quite frustrating, but also like something the devs could easily patch in the future... so here's hoping? Either way, I'm definitely pre-ordering this one. I look forward to jumping into it tomorrow.

You can work on more than one quest so long as it’s not a job quest but it only displays one quest at once

YOU ACTUALLY CAN DO MULTIPLE JOB QUESTS. The warning is for when you activate each individual tear of each quest. So if I have 'Catch a 2 Sea Fish' 'activated (highlighted with a flashing dashed box around that specific their quest itsefl) and then I try to activate another quest. Let's say, August's, "Make five Salads". It would cancel out any progress I've made on catching the 2 sea fish, but it wouldn't go back and erase all my previous tears of hard work. Just the tear I had currently activated.

Great review. As story and dialogue/relationships are very much important to me, I really appreciate that you didn't gloss over the game's weaknesses simply because they weren't important to you. I always love the feeling of a game opening up and peeling back the curtain after you think you’re seen what it has to offer! It’s one of the things that was always incredible with Elden Ring was seeing that map constantly expand, or the Star Ocean games!

It's a shame they didn't drop the price on Switch. I struggle to justify the price especially while I'm still working through Wilde Flower which was half the price. Granted not nearly as big and complex but still. I think I will keep playing that and patiently wait for a sale before snagging it.

Personally I don't care about relationships and NPC's, I figure if I want that then I should just play The Sims. I've played about 12 hours of this game and I am no where near done. I bought this on Switch so I paid $60 and it was absolutely worth it. I equate how much a game is worth with how long the game is; and this game will easily be over 40 hours or more. I have paid $70 for an RPG game that was 40 hours, so to me this was a bargain. This is an excellent game, I am having a blast playing it. I highly recommend it.

Personally don’t mind the characters or lack there of. I tend to focus more on and enjoy the farming aspect of farming sims and ignore the social aspect, it’s why I struggled so much to get into SoS: AWL. I typically also will romance but only really based on if they’ve got a cute appearance and decent enough personality

I just got this game and I love it! I think there’s a simple fishing option in the menu somewhere to change fishing if you don’t like the mini game!

One of the devs actually addressed the limited selling space on the discord. Apparently the idea is that the processing is their version of “bulk selling“. They want us to start selling items individually and build up to the shipment contracts. That’s why the space to sell individual items is limited. I already pre-ordered so I’m so excited for this game 🎉

I’m loving it. I usually hate the mines and fishing in sims but I really like both. The only thing I’m not a fan of is the bees. I wish you didn’t have to keep refilling your bee hives. I can see me abandoning the beehives.

I've been playing Palia and it just... isn't hitting those key notes that I want from a farming game. I'm so conflicted as to whether to get the game on the Switch or on PC, especially because I definitely prefer playing games like this on console, since it just feels more cosy. This game has exceeded my expectations. The graphics, the story line, the auto selected tools, and the cute aesthetic make this game a top 5 of mine easily. It's a no pressure game with a fun and challenging gameplay experience. My personal favorite thing is the level of customization capability this game allows for both house and character. An all around 10/10 for me.

This was a good review, and it was more honest than what I've seen with others. I have the game, and while it is visually stunning it is heavily lacking in the two areas that made me fall in love with farming simulations. Festivals and relationships. Even with Harvest Moon for SNES or N64 it had a good handle of relationships and a variety of festivals that you and your significant other could enjoy together. We should expect current games to surpass this standard. If I knew this game lacked these aspects so heavily, I'm not sure I would've spent the 60.00 USD.

Nice overview and review. I'm still on the fence about this. I really want combat in a game, not the main part, but an integrated part. I think I'm going to stick with "My Time at Sandrock" since it has a nice balance of building, crafting, relationships, mining, and combat. I've been playing the early access on Steam but the official release is coming in early November.

Loving it so far but be aware there are some places you can get to that are really hard if not impossible to get out of. due to little obstructions. I got caught on a little ledge between some bushes yesterday and had to shut the game down restart. Save your game often.
