@@tacoparker6783 I've received several broken bones and dislocated joints from people holding me while I seize. So, no, DON'T HOLD SOMEONE DURING A SEIZURE. Seizures can be violent, by holding someone down (especially the head), you could cause severe damage, like torn ligaments or broken bones. Put something soft and small, like a jacket, under their head to prevent head trauma, don't stick anything in their mouth (you could lose your finger or cause them to choke on whatever you put in their), and time the seizure. If they're in a car, a pool, the road, or somewhere dangerous, move them if possible. Roll them onto their side after they stop seizing, so they don't choke on vomit (some people are able to be rolled on the side during, but a lot can't).

I wish I had a "completely normal life" because of a puesdoseizures it ruined a lot for me like being able to work for long hours, going to school, etc. A lot of doctors/nurses don't believe when you're having this type of seizure either because a lot of them haven't heard of them before. I've had EMTS grab my shoulders and shake me or tell me to stop faking because it's not what a real seizure looks like. I have had staff think I was at the ER for drugs even though the medication they'll give me is the one I'm literally prescribed. This is absolutely not an easy diagnosis to deal with and it's because of doctors and nurses.

this "treatment" for a patient having a seizure is what you should NOT do. Proper first aid: time it. put the person on their side & tilt their head up, make sure they're not hitting their head on anything but DO NOT hold them down. call an ambulance if it's over 5 minutes, or if they have multiple seizures in a row. on another note this episode was basically my life growing up.

“Medication will control this, you’ll lead a completely normal life.” Well as someone who’s had epilepsy since I was 11, tonic clonic seizures since 15, medication is like pot luck. I’m on 4 different medications morning and night and my most recent seizure was yesterday, it takes a lot of trial and error so maybe she’ll be lucky and find the meds that work for her, or she could end up with uncontrolled seizures for over a decade 🤷♀️

As an upper level trainer and competitor who also takes dextro, I find this episode a bit dramatic. I have narcolepsy and have had 30 plus concussions over a 50 year career but not one seziure. Dextro does not enhance all people like they claim nor have I ever had to take a drug test to compete. Horses are well tested these days but drugs and even sex of people would not give the advantage in such a partnership based sport. You can either ride or you have no aptitude for it. Having a medic on hand would satisfy insurance reqiurements for facilities more than anything.

Wish our horse events had doctors on scene like this. I had my horse rear up whilst on him and fall backwards on top of me (totally my fault) and was unassisted, no one helped me out of fear of my "crazy" horse and then I got back on and finished the day bcs my mum had already paid for my entry fee. This was in my teens, I'm 23 now and seeing a physio regularly as of last week due to my back never being the same since the accident. Edit to add: I was refused medical treatment by my mum after the event and the day after the event. She wasn't a good person.

Jesus I thought the first minute with the dad was being over exaggerated about this being a cutthroat sport but what you just told me my God...
@DuckBoxHouse2 жыл бұрын
@@greendude7650 horse riding is one of the most cut-throat and dangerous events you can be apart of. From horses having bad history's and acting out bcs of that, to riders being cruel and unkind to their horse causing accidents that way. There's also those who don't know when it's time to stop. We had a woman at a normal pony club type thing (meant to be chill) have her big horse walking ontop of children's ponies bcs she refused to realise it was time to get off her horse due to the way it was behaving. Accidents happen and then there are things that happen that could've been prevented but some horse riders are absolute morons and too prideful for their own good.

@@DuckBoxHouse God it's a good thing horses can't pick up on that attitude but I've heard of a story from a friend of mine where it was about one woman at the vet with her horse who was really laying into him or something and not stopping before anyone could react the horse snapped and bite her neck wasn't a pretty seeing he told me she didn't survive.
@DuckBoxHouse2 жыл бұрын
@@greendude7650 from my personal experience horses usually reflect/ act according to how you feel. You feel anxious, the horse is gonna sense it. Its why horse therapy is really benefiting. Horses bites are super powerful, im not suprised she didnt survive. Hopefully the horse was rehomed with someone who could handle/care for them properly and not just put down. Most horses act certain ways for a reason.

@@DuckBoxHouse I know this is late but personally for me I don't see how anyone can hurt such a beautiful creature not to mention when you're riding it also you know the funny thing is their name in native American basically means giant Dog or something like that. A giant dog that could stomp you to death if it wanted to if you got on its nerves.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but when having a seizure, the person should be turned to their side so they don’t swallow their tongue, right?
@mikawindrath60852 жыл бұрын
Swallowing the tongue is hardly ever an issue. People sometimes bite their tongue, but when that happens in most cases it's before the seizure happens, so once you notice the seizure it's already too late. Just make sure they don't fall or hit their head.
@Splatoon_Kirby2 жыл бұрын
Swallowing your own tongue is a myth unless you've bitten it off you're not gonna swallow your own tongue and even then its more likely the part you bit off will either fall out of your mouth or you won't cut all the way through so you still can't swallow your tongue.

this wouldn't happen though, because most dextroamphetamine adhd medications actually double as seizure medication, like adderall is also prescribed for epilepsy, etc, so her seizures probably would have gotten better on the amphetamines
