Is Field boring? Does Track need to be separated for it to grow 👀

Track & Field are a family. This is what makes it so special. Never separate the two. Never.

Let's keep it authentically 100. Both can be together or separate. Whatever is optimal is the better choice. Having track and field gives people opportunity to show their talents and get rewarded for it on many levels. Keep track and field together beyond the fiat money.

The field events are not boring. Television broadcasters decided that the events require too much time, and that is the basis of this discussion. The competition on the field rivals and is often way more interesting than that on the track. They simply don't get the exposure that runners do. In professional T&F, we treat field events the way we treat women's sports, in general: we don't promote or support it, then claim it's not marketable.

Don’t even try to separate the two! You cannot have one without the other. Also, you’ll have to take away so many NCAA championships from Florida if that’s the case.

If we’re being honest, if more schools had the resources to provide safe field event practices/resources, it may be different. Along with knowledgable coaches.

Its about time we get the ruthless competition into track. A 300m race between the top 3 200m vs top 3 400m sprinters. The top 3 100m vs 200m in a 150m and top 3 400m vs 800m in a 600m.

Yes, atleast for Television purposes. Field needs to be aired on a delay. After the height switches and have the routines before the approaches edited down for time, minimal replays and only commentary on good or interesting attempts. Field events start in the morning and end at the end of the meet. They take way too much time. Less cutting back and forth and multiple events on screen at one time. I think this would greatly help field as they would actually get more exposure and airtime and track by proxy.

I don’t think it’s boring. I think MJ is saying investors aren’t interested in field in its current format. Maybe it would have to be restructured to fit TV. Would that be fair to the athletes?

Long jump triple jump and high jump is exciting a lot of the other events are boring like race walking!

With the triple jump being one of my favorite events to watch...I hate to say it but yes...track could survive without field events...but why would it want to

Of the 20 Most Popular videos on the Official Olympics Channel, 3 are Field Event videos, same as Usain Bolt videos. Of the 20 Most Popular videos on the Official WA Channel, 5 are Field Event videos compared to 6 Bolt videos. Of the 20 Most Popular videos on the Official DL Channel, 7 are Field Event videos. Of the 20 Most Popular videos on the Total 'Running' Productions Channel, 9 are Field Event videos! Data shows ppl love HJ, LJ & JAV in particular followed by PV, HAM & SP - just a few data points that ppl like MJ should be taking into consideration! This is useful info if you were to use it for example to choose 4 Field Events to include in GST & limit it to just the best 4 ppl in each event battling each other with a 30s time limit between each Athlete's attempt so that it moves a lot quicker (compared to the usual 8-12 ppl in a Champs Field Final). Each of the 4 GST Meets are 3-day Meets (3hr broadcast window per day), so there's going to be a LOT of downtime that will probably end up being filled with pundits doing a LOT of talking with a LOT of video packages played on a loop (like the Athlos Meet) that could instead be filled by fast moving HJ, LJ, JAV & SP competitions for example. This yr's Euro Champs had that special raised runway/platform built right next to the crowd for both LJ/TJ which helped produce really good competition & distances in both M&W's LJ/TJ - GST could easily implement something like that & have just the best 4 ppl in each event battling each other in a fast moving competition. With a few simple tweaks & adjustments, it's really not that hard to include some Field Events in GST if they really wanted to!

Don’t you think investors tested this idea? MJ is the face not the purse. Also one video getting lots of views for one athlete does not gauge interest

@@AllInTheGame01 outside of Bolt. What’s the average views for that event and/or athlete across multiple platforms? That’s what I mean by ‘one video’. You have to look at the entire picture.

@@mssha1980 WA confirmed they used a lot of data to rank the popularity of the 8 Field Events which they used to decide which ones to cut from the new 3-day Outdoor WC in Budapest '26. Turns out they decided to keep the HJ, LJ, JAV & PV for both M&W as they're the most popular which is exactly in line with what I personally found as they decided to either completely cut some of the other 4 (DISC & SP) or pare them down (TJ & HAM) at those new Champs.

You don’t have the elite runner in field events like Carl and Marion who long jumped and less attention is paid to the decathlon

And lastly if the governing body hasn’t figured it out what makes him think he can fix a sport where the masses aren’t invested. Make the general public vested and we got a winner!
