hey there! italian here, i had few conversation with my current film dealer, he has contact with people that kinda know more about ferrania situation, in short, as they texted me 3 days ago with "official news" that "ferrania now has another new owner, and a new group of directors and will start production in the next two weeks, first film stocks will arrive for late spring" i belive well my dealer so i do trust them, plus ferrania film here in italy was still quite valiable, so we never really had that much thoughs, outside of the only real lack for P33 because it was a newcomer so maybe stock wasn't super big for them to maintain it for this past few rought months

That’s good news! Hope it’s accurate!

We need them. With only Kodak and Ilford left ... We really need to support them.

I really hope as well, I do trust my film store dealer but of course until we hear proper news from them it's a big probability but not certain, I love all their b&w stocks, I managed to shoot few of P33 and I want have more, it's literally p30 but with more flexibility and barely any degrade in grain plus they were planning outside of P36 for a negative color film (Solaris comeback I don't know, still I hope they can keep on going) I guess If I hear anything again from my film store I'll update the post or leave a comment for good measure, if it's something important ofc

I just got into film last year and the first stock I tried was P30. Love it! Managed to get my hands on two more rolls recently. Shot one and I’m jealously guarding the other in the back of my fridge waiting for sunny days. It’s pretty cloudy and dark this time of year in the PNW. Hope they keep going good

Yeah as someone who got burnt on the Ferrania kickstarter I’m definitely not holding my breath. I never got a single roll even though I was an early backer!

I have shot Farrania when they under the USA's 3M Company called Dynachrome, this was like 40-50 years ago. It was less expensive than Eastman Kodak and Agfa-Gavere Agfachrome, and GAF Anschochrome. All these films were similar to the EK's Ektacrhome and Kodachrome slide films. At that time, Fuji Film of Japan was not imported into the US, they came much later.

I was born 50 kilometers form the Ferrania factory. I certainly tried their film 🙂I hope I'll be able to buy it again in the future.... 🥺🤞

I wish Ferrania the best of luck! However I'm not holding my breath. Their distribution in the USA has always been spotty. The mail order houses only had it in stock for a minute. And then it would be out of stock for months. In the meantime I can get Ilford Pan F anytime I need it. Plus others. Rather than introducing a bunch of new films it would be best for Ferrania to focus on one or two for now and get production running again.

This is a very interesting story. The comeback was quite fast methinks.

I have shot P30 and P33. I have to say they deliver the contrast I am looking for. I love them. I have about 10 rolls left of P30, but P33 I am running low on.

I love their film, I have shot all three film stocks and think they are high quality products. I hope they get their act together and produce more film

I've only shot p30 so far. i love the amount of silver content in the film, it's something you don't really get from modern stocks like tri-x or hp5. I do prefer to shoot it in a studio setting or under cloudy weather because of the amount of contrast it has. otherwise it has quickly become one of my favorite films. I didn't get a chance to try out p33 but that one seems more suited for more general use and can handle more lighting conditions

P30 is just wonderful, when their website went down early last week I ordered a bunch from sources in the US that still have it. Now that their website is back up and the “last run” language is gone there might be more hope. For everything the company has been through it’s remarkable that they made it this far.

I really hope that they are okay- I'm waiting for them to release their motion picture stocks in 16mm so I can buy some. We really need different manufacturers.

I shot two rolls yesterday of P30 and I hope they come out well.

Although many may wish for a variety of suppliers that provide a large choice of films from many manufacturers, the reality of film photography today is that he more variety we have, the worse off we will be, simply because there is not enough market demand to support many suppliers. The market gets too divided up, and you end up with no suppliers because they don't have enough buyers to support any of them. Personally, I would be happy to see the B/W market to boil down to Ilford, Foma and Kodak, where they all have sufficient clients to share the market, provide a reliable variety of films, and have solid competition. They can provide solid formulas in a variety of sizes all the way to extra-large format. They can also do 'special runs' for third party 'manufacturers' with specialty formulas.

Ferrania is quite hard to come by in Mexico, only from B&H, but its been out of stock since weeks or months.
@paulmcivor99942 күн бұрын
P30 is an 80 ISO film that appears to be an ortho film stock. This explains the challenges people reported about nailing exposure. Leaving aside the lame marketing talk about making a film similar to Fellini's films, this is obvious. So the simple fact is that you can get an ISO 80 ortho film from Ilford in 35, 120 and 4x5.

Just asked my local shop in Austin about their experience getting stock based off MetalFinger's video about Ferrania. They said they have no issues with P30 and Orto, P33 has been on a 6 month backorder. I mentioned all the rumors of them having issues financially but they seem confident they're okay, as I buy their last P30 in 120 roll. Not sure if I should take that as an omen.

With the tariffs coming, I wonder if it will affect Ferrania?
@TheNewBruno692 күн бұрын
@@CalumetVideo for the whole import story... Yeah it will affect Ferrania, mostly since they might have to bother with bigger prices in us and not being competitive anymore with high quality film stocks, I fear it might cost too much on the us for people to buy it compared to other film stocks
@CalumetVideo2 күн бұрын
@ I was thinking that, for most of us, we won’t bother with films like Ferrania or Foma when we can get Kodak or Ilford cheaper.
@TheNewBruno692 күн бұрын
@@CalumetVideo yup that's what really bothers me. In Europe they can have better import costs, with the new taxes entering in the US I fear not many will bother. Maybe Ferrania might not even choose to export to the us directly and let third parties do the job, it might save them money overall, I don't know in the end
