Real. For the uninitiated, GOG sells absolute classics, almost always with massive optimization and modernization, including stuff that was originally fan-made and a hassle to get running, built into their version of the game, and all completely DRM free. They're one of the biggest forefronts of video game media preservation on top of selling timeless pieces of art, and obscure hidden gems and cult classics. And all this while also selling all the big names from the modern era just like steam. Maybe he was getting it mixed up with G2A? Cuz that's a shady key reseller..

Chaos aside, he's also considered the pinnacle of the tau warrior, to the point that researchers created a program to make more warriors like him, and estimated that, of the tens of thousands of candidates, over the span of multiple generations, they would only be able to make 1 or 2 warriors like him, and that was if they were succesful at all.

One idea is that a Iron Warrior Warsmith has takes one of their worlds and after the 80% of whole system goes dark, they and the imperium ho yo investigate. Only yo find that not only has everyone thrown there lot in with the Warsmith, but he is targeting them, the Necrons, and Eldar. Stealing and analyzing the drones, mechs, Necrons, obliterater virus, and daemon engines to make Chaos robots loyal to him. Another is a Tau scientist found an chaos sword and is studying it to gain it’s power for the Fire Caste. Only to find a “real living creature” aka a daemon, inside the sword and is able to talk to it, not mentally, *literally* through the computers the sword is hooked up to. But instead of reporting this, or at least “putting it out of its misery”, he keeps it secret to learn more from it. Just in time for an splinter fleet of Imperials given refuge after their planet was destroyed to reveal to be all chaos worshippers and grow into a planet wide chaos cult. Summoning Chaos to the world lead be a Chaos lord champion or daemon prince eager to get his sword back. Plus the Iron Warriors are perfect for the Tau because both use more modern, tactical and efficient ways of waging war.

Talking about a Tau version of Darktide makes me want alien guns in Darktide. Imagine a Ordos Xenos Interrogator or a Rogue Trader who sells Eldar shurikan pistols and Tau rifles to your Rejects.

Here’s my take on how I deal with the Valkyrie @10:30. I basically just run to the pipeline barrier that it hovers over, and just crouch behind it while I pop my head out to shoot the two engine turbines on the top (those are basically it’s main weak points). The machine guns on it can’t really hit you while you’re there, and the missiles only get fired once every few bursts (plus they don’t land close enough to do massive damage).

47:40 - when DK gets a bike and drives off into the sunset of incoming exterminatus
@Gustav_KurigaАй бұрын
4:30 Ok, I can already tell that DK doesn't understand the lore of the era at all. Space marines were basically unstoppable living weapons during that era. Even for peak Tau cheese era, one Fire Warrior being able to take out a bunch of them says a lot about that Fire Warrior, rather than the Tau as a whole.
@stryke-jn3kvАй бұрын
Does he understand the lore of any era? It's all about entertainment over accuracy after all.

This game does a lot of stuff really well - like for example, they totally nailed the plasma gun, and you even get to fight Chaos Dreadnoughts, but the craziest thing for me is that Fire Warrior still has the best bolter in videogames and only Darktide gets sort of close to matching it.

I think the earliest game I can remember off the top of my head that used proper voice acting was Command & Conquer from 1995. The advertising for that game put as much emphasis on using full-motion video cut scenes as it did on the innovative gameplay. I'm sure there were others before that, but that was the first one I personally remember.
@RetnabBanterАй бұрын
One important bit of context is that Tau were VERY new when the game came out. Like, within 2 years of minis first releasing they got a video game
@soupordaveАй бұрын
The first game I played that had actual really good voice acting was Knights of the Old Republic. On the subject of Sci-Fi franchises with planet killer weapons, Dune actually ranks towards the bottom. They only had normal atomic weapons; every Great House had them, but the convention against their use was that whoever used them would be attacked by all the other Great Houses. So basically Galactic Mutually Assured Destruction. Star Trek also had planet killers including virus bombs/bio-weapons but they were outlawed and no one was supposed to have them. The Genesis device could create new solar systems but it destroyed the old one to do it. But the big outlawed weapon in Star Trek were subspace weapons, that would actually destroy the fabric of space-time and create sort of mini warp storms just without the daemons. Star Wars had the Death Star, but in the old Legends books there was also the Sun Crusher. It was an invulnerable star ship that fired torpedoes that destroyed Stars.

The reason the Autogun looks like an M16 is because an Autogun is "comparable to a 20th century automatic rifle both in appearance and operation" (2nd Ed Wargear book). There have been a lot of styles of Autogun that just look like contemporary assault rifles over the years.
@dredgenvarg7092Ай бұрын
I remember getting this game when it originally came out on the PS2 and being pretty impressed with the voice cast TBH, there are quite a few well known British actors. You have the legendary Tom Baker (4th Doctor Who) as narrator, Brian Blessed, Peter Serafinowicz (better known these days for starring in the John Wick movies), Sean Pertwee (who seems to do a a fair bit of VA work for GW) and Burt Kwok (Cato from the pink panther movies).

Still my favorite unconfirmed canon (it’s head canon to me) is that after Fire Warrior Kais went on to be trained by Puretide along side Farsight and Shadowsun, and thus became O’Kais from Dawn of war dark crusade. I know Kais is a standard Fire caster name, but it just feels right to me. Especially since current in canon O’Kais is basically a walking Tau doom marine. I never read the Fire Warrior book so I don’t know if it conflicts with this or not.

Another KZbinr whos gone over this game is Josh Strife. He goes into detail about how awful the Tau Weapons feel to use, to the fact that all the big name voice actors went to Imperium characters, to the fact that the game basically has you playing the B Plot to a Space Marine. Honestly its one of those games that with everything I know about it, if you are a fan of the Tau, I probably wouldn't recommend this game, because youd probably walk away feeling disappointed more than anything.

I really like the game reviews you guys are doing. On that note if you are to continue this kind of content, maybe you could take a look at Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2. I think it´s quite fun since there is rarely any ship to ship combat in other Warhammer games.
@alshabib5849Ай бұрын
That autogun is actually lore accurate, it's the Agrippa pattern autogun used by the steel legion who are also the guard regiment in the game. The guys you fight on the ship are also the old school stormtroopers. While you were most commonly just going to use the kasrkin models for the stormtrooper elite statblock back in the day, those storm trooper models with like the EVA like suit were also around but a bit rarer to actually buy, atleast at my store. They were usually the troops option got the inquisitorial army's as well

The Tau themselves, now has a Tau goddess, not to mention some Tau are attacking their own allies. which, may cause problems even could cause a Tau civil war, But what do you guys think?
@svenbrede6151Ай бұрын
Hmm, the Shovah enclave divide isn't crazy. However the divide between racist 4th expansion Tau and others might actually make it. Especially because there are 4th expansion Aun who are quite racist. The issue being that the Tau listen so hard to the Aun that we'd basically require a rogue Aun going against other Aun for a proper civil war. So if any it'd be at the other end of the startide nexus between... possibly shadowsun and 4th sphere people. Kais could come in for some black ops stuff like in War of Secrets

Bricky being Halo-pilled is always a nice sight, but since you literally asked: Here's a list of games that weren't ripping off Halo from that time Jak, Ratchett and Clank, Half-life, Postal, Planetside (maybe a little), Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament (maybe a little), Serious Sam, Battlefield (maybe a little), Metroid Prime. I get that Halo was very influential, but it aint Doom. It sits somewhere with Half-life where it did some things so well that they feel good to play to this day, but they aren't so influential that they blew every other game of the time out of the water, or forced them to emulate what made them so great.
@vod6264Ай бұрын
OK the moment you put the idea of the main character being the Tau version of Doom Guy made me like this game waaaay more. Also I picture that instead of being a stoic badass like Doom Guy he's almost constantly screaming and panicking as he's fighting things way above his pay grade and yet somehow surviving.

Fun coincidence that this episode drops at the same time GW announces a new Tau Black Library book.
@isawaryokageАй бұрын
Worst part about this game, is that it's character shows up in a semi recent Dark Angels book that is kind of garbage. In that book, Kais gets a Ghost keel, infiltrates the Fortress Monastary of the Angels of Absolution (Dark Angels 2nd founding sucessor), after fightning Terminators and punching one into the ground. The Fortress whole sweet of sensors isn't able to detect him, somehow, he gets to the Throne room of Chapter Master Moddren, Kills his command squad, the most veterain warriors of the chapter, and the Chief Librarian, while fightning the Chapter Master in melee. And only looses the suit after they shoot the Fortress Monastary from orbit. Dude survived everything and somehow the suit was recorvered by the Tau. It really felt I was reading a fan fiction.
