Dude you just made my day, week, & year. This was a game I played with my friend when I must have been around 5. As an adult, I only had vague recollections of it and after searching for it in vain, eventually gave up. I thought I was crazy trying to remember some obviously dreamed up game that combined pinball and fantasy elements. Not anymore. I'm finally vindicated. The search is over. You sir, are a prince. You sir, are nostalgia's scion- a curator of bygone delights. Thank you for this long awaited insight.

Closest modern comparisons to this that I can think of would be something like Wizorb or Strikey Sisters on Steam, but even those more resemble a stricter adherence to Breakout mechanics/physics than this. I always felt like I was terrible at Firestriker, where I'm not usually terrible at something like Breakout. I think this game's wacky physics have a lot to do with that, not a lot of correlation between momentum or angle when hitting the "ball", and the hit detection is not great. Still fun with a friend(s).

I might give this game another shot. I love the concept, but I didn't implementation. You're spot on about about inconsistent movement of the "ball" and it I felt parts of the game were painfully slow.

This game is called Holy Striker in Japan, and is developed by Axes Art Amuse (which also developed Dream Maze the Kigurumi Adventure) and published by Hect in Japan and DTMC (the company infamous for Lester the Unlikely) in the US. My first experience with this game was a PS2 SNES emulator DVD that had 900+ games and this game was one of them.

This game reminds me of Devilish for the Sega Genesis and Game Gear, except that game involved the protagonist being turned into a paddle (hence, the "Breakout" element).

Oh man. I've been thinking about building my home arcade and thought I would want to build my own pinball machine from scratch. I now have a goal - make a real-life Firestriker style pinball machine. Left hand would be joystick with a push button to swing. This would control a carriage with a flipper. Maybe two buttons, one for swing left and the other for swing right. Right hand would be a spinner that controls a paddle with a bumper.

I remember a review of this game. They said it was the poster child for not judging a game by its looks. They rated its graphics and music as average, but they found its gameplay refreshingly different. It was summed up as good fun in a decent package.

I making a assumption that you receive many requests for games to review but I was curious as weather or not you had heard of Sweet Home for NES rom. It came out in Japan and was never released here in America officially. It’s supposed to be a survival horror game before the term was used before it. I was amazed to see you hadn’t done a review for it seeming how you tend to also dabble in unofficial game ports with English translation. It a interesting game. Highly recommended 👍🏼

Honestly this reminds me A LOT of Devilish (also known as Bad Omen in some regions) on the Genesis/Megadrive. The game is honestly kind of mediocre, but the presentation, visuals, and especially the music are FANTASTIC! Honestly one of my favorite Sega Genesis soundtracks. It's still pretty inexpensive (only around $30 on Ebay) and I never hear anybody mention it so you should review it sometime.

WizOrb is a similar game to this that I bought off Steam (or GOG? ) a little while back. 16-bit fantasy style Arkanoid clone. Sounds like Firestriker has about similar strengths and weaknesses to that one, although from your description, WizOrb seems to have more balanced physics.
