Don't feel worried about the residue you see coming out of the engine. That is residue from speed tape. As a retired flight attendant I had to constantly explain this to passengers. Speed tape is commonly used as a temporary fix when there is cosmetic damage to the aircraft, including the engines. As you get up to speed and the engine gets good and hot, the residue will boil, ESPECIALLY if the speed tape was removed recently. Don't be alarmed!! Speed tape is rarely experienced but perfectly legal and safe. You'll find speed tape common around the cargo compartment door from ground handlers slamming the conveyor belt against the fuselage, scratching the airplane. We've also used speed tape near boarding doors due to scuff marks from jetbridge accidents.

i’m surprised not many people know this, but there’s a shuttle bus service from Changi airport into Johor Bahru. The journey actually starts from the airport so the bus is generally emptier than other buses heading into JB & it’s a comfortable bus. Enjoyed the experience with this carrier & stuck to this ever since. Flights definitely provide a faster journey to the destination, but just adding another option if you’re interested to try this again ☺️

@@bardo0007 price ranges from $3-$11. they make a few stops in singapore before entering JB, but not too much to make the journey longer. They also provide services from JB into Singapore. You can google Transtar Changi to JB for more information :)

Not sure if the flight is faster, maybe it is if you factor in the queue time at the causeway but that would be a very expensive way to go to jb considering taking the train and bus costs $3
@sbrups
@sbrups 2 ай бұрын
@@chenfeng3003 fair enough, definitely depends on when & what time you’re heading in as well as where you start your journey. If i’m at Changi, i’m definitely not sitting on the MRT to get to a checkpoint. Nevertheless, options are always available so just offering this one in case it helps anyone else. :)

We had the same issue when on a university trip where our uni had a campus abroad in Johor Baru. Landed in Singapore & some students (from Malaysia) thankfully came to pick us up, they went right through at the border & spent ages waiting for us Brits to come through. Thank god we had locals with us, cause most people seem to take the bus which is terrifying cause buses can leave without you & take your luggage if not careful. Any Johor Baru was oddly a great booming city, not what we expected. Good times.

Hi Noel, Last October I did a pre-arranged private car service from Changi Airport to my hotel in Johor Bahru across from JB Sentral. It was only SG$120 (about US$89) with no extra charges for delays. It was a reasonable 1 hour wait at border at 900am on a Tuesday so my door-to-door was only 90 minutes. The border crossing wait times can certainly be a lot longer since the Johor-Singapore causeway is one of the world's busiest land crossings so your "work around" has merit, especially for us avgeeks. With the recent announcement that Singapore and Malaysia's Johor state are partnering to jointly develop a special economic zone with a passport-free QR code-based clearance process at their land border the congestion should ease. Construction has also begun on a light-rail link between the two cities that is expected to reach a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour when completed which will also help. Perhaps in a few years you can do a "car versus rail versus flight" challenge between the two cities. Thanks for a really fun and interesting "loo-review-less" video. PS... now I'm dusting off my 4 Erasure CD's and seeing if the old Walkman will work.

My colleague and I flew from KUL to JHB back in 2002. We caught a bus that was to take us into the center of Singapore. At the border the bus pulled in for the immigration check. Since the bus was mainly full of Singaporeans returning after purchasing cheaper items in Malaysia, they all passed through immigration quickly. When my colleague and I emerged we found our bus had left us behind! We had to beg another bus company to take us into the city. I enjoyed your story and innovative solution.

@YukonGhibli 28 күн бұрын
@@pncorona The final Continental flight from EFD to IAH was IIRC 8 Sept 2004. It ran for many years and was quite popular with the NASA/Clear Lake/Galveston crowd. CO actually added it on for free, you got 500 FFlyer miles, free parking and the flight could last as short as 8 minutes, with great views of the city. I flew it several times. It ran for many, many years. CO actually ran the "Houston Proud" Express from Hobby to IAH in the 80s (not sure if it ran into the 90s) but that service ended much sooner, though I think United has a maintenance hanger at HOU still (it got from CO). It was the only intra-city air service on fixed wing aircraft in "modern times" as far as I know. yes short flights ran FLL-MIA or OAK-SFO etc, but those are different cities (NYC had helicopter service).

I'm an aircraft mechanic, but I'm unfamiliar with the A320 NEO or any P&W/Leap engine. And I have no idea what the thing between the engine inlet and the fan cowl door could be. You'd almost think it was something that was left behind accidentally. But that would also be unlikely because the engine oil tank would be behind that same fan cowl door (at least it is on a CFM-56B), and anything large left behind there would be noticed when topping up the engine oil on a daily basis.

Great video Noel really interesting 🤔 and odd that the flight was the cheaper option! 🤣 ✈️ Loved it and Air Asia’s A320neo looked pretty good I was shocked! 😳 Also it’s pronounced “Jore B’Hore” for Johor Bahru 😂😊 Cheers mate! 🍻 Caleb’s Aviation

Love the concept already, I often fly from JB when I am in Singapore, never flew to JB though from SG. I’m cheap and take a bus to JB then a taxi.

I live in the Midwest, USA, and would love to see you do a flight from Ohare to Milwaukee to some small regional airport like Rhinelander, Wisconsin. (Home of the Hodags, of course!). Or East Troy, Wisconsin, which houses one of the last electric trolley railroads that you can travel on. It also has an electric trolley museum, with historic electric trains.). So many other small airports to choose from. Thank you for these videos- I appreciate you making them- it allows me and others to see places in the world that we never would normally be able to see! And your easy going personality and funny quips are so entertaining! If I need to de-stress after a bad day, I watch one of your videos… Subscribing now, thanks for all you do!

This can attest this border crossing can be a real pain when going by MRT and bus from central Singapore via Woodlands. Note he is also going to Senai, not downtown JB.

I nearly thought this was about the ROute from Houston to Dallas. Probably one of the most unknown common routes of flight travel instead of driving. People actually live in Houston and fly to dallas everyday to work. And Vice Versa.

That was insane! Flying was cheaper than other forms of transportation! I can't say I've ever heard of someone doing what you did, but it was fun. I hope that plane with the leak was at least looked at by a mechanic. It's certainly not what you want to see when up in the air. I have noticed that on most of your trips, most of the signage, announcements, advertisements & etc is in English. I have a friend who is currently on a cruise around New Zealand & Australia & his photos & places he is visiting are spectacular! I hope you do get to do sight seeing sometimes.

I was looking for a cheap hotel in Singapore on Expedia and switched to „sort from cheap to expensive“. I was surprised to see that the cheap hotels which showed up when looking for a hotel in Singapore where all across the border, in Malaysia, not far but after adding a $200 cab fare these hotels wouldn’t be that cheap anymore.

I sometimes book flights out of JHB (Senai) as it can be cheaper than booking flights from SIN or KUL (even when the JHB flight transits through KUL). It never occurred to me to fly there from SIN which would mean a route from SIN-KUL-JHB-KUL- destination. The border is a bit fiddly but the train to Woodlands and bus from JB is cheap.

You can actually take public transport to johor bahru for under 3 sgd which is approximately 2.25 usd and its faster than flying too. Just take the train from changi airport to kranji station and then hop on either 170 or 960 which go from kranji mrt into johor bahru. Not sure how long it would take but definitely less than 2h 45 min including crossing the customs.

I wish the old railways route to Tanjong Pagar still existed. Would have loved to take a train direct from downtown Singapore to Malaysia. Although the MRT to Woodlands is not a bad alternative.

When I first started flying charter in a Cessna 206 with a belly pod, I quickly learned by experience to pack anything in a polyethylene garbage bag in the center, surrounded by more rigid/stiff bags (insert favorite saying here). Anything flimsy near the outside edge of the belly pod would invariably find its way to a gap between it and the fuselage, get sucked out of the gap, and become a streamer during the flight. Very unsightly and unprofessional looking 😎

🙏 Airport taxi to downtown are usually quite expensive but necessary when carrying luggages! Some coaches stop at the City Centre , nearer to their hotels , so have to decide accordingly! 😊🙏
