Folklore is an exclusive PS3 game that has gone up in price a LOT during the last year. Is it worth playing? It's a great game with a ton of potential, but it's by no means perfect. In this video I talk about what I enjoyed about playing Folklore in 2021 and why I think it deserves a sequel or remake in the future.

Hey everyone! Hope you enjoyed the video. Are there other PS3 exclusives you'd like me to talk about in the future? Let me know. Others to be covered in the channel in the future include Resistance and inFAMOUS 2. Additional notes regarding Folklore: 1) Most of the gameplay in the video is from Ellen's perspective, as the environments are pretty much the same from both perspectives, so I didn't record a lot of footage as Keats. 2) I really enjoyed my time with Folklore, which is why I was so frustrated when it started to feel so repetitive. It's not often I just tell myself to take a break from playing a game (Even when it's not a long game), but in this case I didn't want to go from enjoying it to feel "meh"" with it. Hopefully that makes sense. I think we've all played a game we love, but can get burnt out when we start noticing their faults. 3) I purposely only used gameplay from a few key parts of the game as I didn't want to show a ton of the first or second half. This way you can get to enjoy many things you didn't see in case you do play it. :) Thanks so much once again for watching!!

Well I have several games to do or redo, like Alice return, Singularity, GoW:ascension, AC Rogue (the 3 to finish), Uncharted (yeah I still do them), Journey (have the game since 2012 lol), same last of us (too despairing lol), Deadpool, gta5, bioshock 2.

One of the best games from early PS3... not just because it was the FIRST PS3 game with outstanding graphics, but also because it had the best mechanics, design (scenery, monsters and ambience) and general content. Just because they lacked, maybe, of a strong marketing plan, it wasn't famous, but definitely one of my favourites and I consider myself to be a touch reviewer. I strongly recommend to play this hidden, totally underrated JEWEL.

I played it not long after it came out. I loved the comic book style and the mythology was totally my thing. I'm glad that I still have my original copy of the game. Really is a shame how the game has shot up in price. It's interesting that you talk about the game getting repetitive. I can see why you say that. You're doing the same sort of thing. Keats gets different monsters, side quests, outfits and the bosses need different strats, but yeah it's similar. I never really had a problem with that but I can see why it would be off putting for others, everyone has different tastes!

I'm surprised you disliked the pacing of the story. I think it's great, it fits doolins small sleepy town perfectly, and you got a few more pieces each chapter to think about the mystery overall. Maybe you just don't like stories where you arent given the answers more quickly, and I totally get that, but this one appeals to my sensibilities a lot

Yes. Folklore needs to be rereleased on later consoles. I played it I have replayed it I still own it I want a damned sequel…it deserved more love when it was released.

I played it on ps3 and lived it. I wish it would get a remake for the ps5. Not specifically the same but since its a ps5, add more to it. Like change the background to more pitch black atmosphere. The combat mechanic should be improved upon. Its such a great game.

Great review Juan. I too am a linear type of player and not open world. Nice that you pointed that concept out. Would love to see you do a grand theft franchise review given some of their older games will be rereleased on few platforms.

Found 2 copies of Folklore in late 2018. It was already kindof rare then. I found one at GameStop for $15, complete, and one at a pawn for just a couple of dollars. Also complete. Sold one in 2020 for $50 and I'm hanging onto the other.

I found this game when I was looking tru my old game collection, I remember my parents buying me this game and I never gave it a chance because the box art never appealed to me lol, now I googled the name and the game is expensive af. I'm glad that I didn't throw it away after leaving it sit there in my attic for a decade

Honestly I love this game so much. My brother got it for my mother to play but just didn't get into it. I started playing it and loved it. I was the first person in my family to beat it. The final boss took me awhile but it was so fun and felt so good when I finally beat it! I loved the variety of folks and how you could have so many combinations. I would absolutely love a sequel or even a remaster! I know it'll never happen but one can hope. I honestly want to replay this game again. I complete understand your point on replaying the worlds between the characters, but I loved it because you got to find new folks, almost like a parallel universe! I think I only ever missed one folk from one of the optional missions from the bar. It's such an underrated game and I wish more people knew about it.

Honestly the only thing I didn't like about the game was the Endless Corridor. I get the concept, but I don't think it was executed well. I spent way too much time there.

I think I probably played this game at least half a dozen times, I love it. The repetitiveness never really got to me and I prefer going back and forth between the characters. Also, Keats is one of my Top 10 game characters of all time.

I loved the game and I still sometimes find myself thinking back how it was playing it. I hope there will be sequel, but in reality I don’t think it will happen. I don’t think the pace of the game is slow. The story is immersive and there are sometimes plots involved.

Just looked it up after being offered big bucks at CEX. I remember picking it up from a bargain bin back in the day and thinking similar. Good graphics and music, ok gameplay and slow story and I also gave up on it. It's probably not too bad if you are used to Japanese games as I feel lots of Japanese games have similar pacing (i.e. lots of reading between shortish periods of gameplay)

honestly, i don’t think it’d feel the same on PC, don’t get me wrong, i’m not a console elitist, i love PC, but Folklore just wouldn’t work on PC without a controller with gyro, which not everyone has a controller like that for PC, and keyboard and mouse just wouldn’t cut it for this game, especially since this game uses motion as a core mechanic

Hey all. Im looking for active ps3 users that might know if there is any use for ps now or ps plus on ps3? I have both services active from a current gen console and am trying to go back and play those ps now games natively on ps3 hardware, is at all that possible?

I believe ps plus and ps now are not available for ps3, simply because when you play ps now games you don’t actually play on your hardware, you play on Sony’s servers, meaning that you could also play on your computer virtually as long as you have a controller. Hope this helps :)

accurate review; the first 60-70% is enjoyable; but I had to push myself to the end and really; the ending wasn't worth it; I couldn't tell you what it was all about; since the storytelling is more thought text and such, not the gameplay. If its just Ellen's side for a 6 hr game its good.

Old movies get re-released on new media. Games like these with no ports/remasters, they get more expensive because they don't make them anymore and can gain cult classic popularity later on- it drives the demand up while the supply doesn't increase. This was a great game but didn't receive the recognition it deserved at the time. I'm just glad it's getting some attention now.
