For me, forza has 3 main problems in the Franchise today: - Lack of progression (In 4 hours you have a million) - Lack of a atmosphere (The festival, Characters, everthing looks bland in compare to FH1) - Lack of new things from one title to another (FH4 seems exactly like FH5 with another map)

I'm kinda conflicted with the progression. On one hand I get the complaints and criticism, but on the other hand I like that Forza is a franchise that allows you to treat it like a sandbox. You aren't super restricted and it's one of the few games within the genre that gives you that type of freedom.

It's such a bummer that Turn10 and Playground Games took their franchise for granted. The last enjoyable Motorsport for me was 4, the last enjoyable Horizon was 3 and i don't like the way Horizon is developing with progression and the car culture.

Turn 10 and Playground Games idea of car culture is cramming SUVs and Crossovers everywhere, whilst I hate them it’s not so bad in Horizon for obvious reasons. But where it really gets me heated is when Motorsport is filled to the brim with these abominations. If they included rally cross, stadium super truck and other layouts / variations of tracks and disciplines into the Motorsport series then it would be fine. I wonder why we don’t see Stadium trucks, SUVs and Crossovers racing on tracks like Spa, Bathurst, Catalunya, Le Mans etc. 🤔 It’s almost like they aren’t designed for that category of Motorsport. If they want to include them, include their racing discipline too.

Biggest problem with forza horizon nowadays is the lack of progression, even if it is a simple one like in forza horizon 1, it still motivates you. I really miss the "nobody to hero" style of progression of that game.

It's basically a problem that results from the nature of business. They want to attract more players? They make it less nische, they add stuff that appeals to more people and remove features and factors that discourage new or unexperiences players. A tale as old a videogame sequels itself. I don't really blame the devs or Microsoft that they go that route, but it's a damn shame when you are part of that original nische that they tended to in the past.

Yes exactly. First person i've seen online that actually understands the big picture of this situation. It's pretty simple. Business was prioritized over artistic integrity. I guess it's just not viable for these companies to pour resources into a project that only a handful of people can deeply enjoy. It's a game of numbers, and they wanted to expand. And by doing so, like you said, they compromised the original vision. It's a trade off, you can't really do both at the same time ( in most cases anyway). I still think they went about it in a very disingenuous way, and it's probably going to bite them in the ass later down the road. I'm convinced they could have kept it niche for the most part, and still turn in a decent profit. But they just outright ditched everything the first game stood for, and repurposed the shit out of this series. Damn shame. Still a little bothersome, even when you fully expect it.

what really pissed me of about horizon 5 is how blatantly inflating the rates of people playing the game. i remember past july the online matches were completly empty. and the player count was past 10 million but it nevers says active count players, even medal of honor 2010 had the count of active players in specific matches. this is so BS. i said this before, and i will say it again. they try this game to appeal to the lowest common denominator who doesnt play racing games. what made horizon 1 still far better than the sequels is the progression, the atmosphere, the characters, and all of this because the original devs wanted to appeal to the people that grew with games like most wanted 2005, underground, midnight club, test drive, etc. the good old days of racing. made by people, for people who knew the racing culture and and knew who to portray it to videogames. thanks if you read this far.

I truly don't understand ppl who say "they give you too many cars!". I like being able to get expensive cars without having to grind the everloving shit out of a game, because not everyone has the time to do that. I'm not saying that the progression is great, but at the very least it allows you to try different cars and builds all the time.

The problem is it takes all the cool factor away from them, it should be a struggle to get a 2000hp hyper car. It shouldn't be so much that it takes 10 hours alone to grind for the car but it should be a "finally I got it can't wait to race it!" feeling. I get that you work 100 hours a week and have 6 kids and two wives you need to take care of but that's not true for everyone.

I still think Forza horizon 3 is the best modern horizon game. Horizon 5 tries to copy Forza horizon 3 but fails . The location don't get me wrong horizon 5 is bigger and more beautiful than horizon 3 but horizon 3 had a better atmosphere (Like the city, beach, forest, and deserts.) . Progression is way better in horizon 3 than horizon 5 like (upgrading festival sites, midnight street racing battles) . Horizon 3 is the last full complete games to be released with little to no issues at launch compared to horizon 4 and 5

7:44 I never understood why people think making racing games grindy is a good thing. The reality is, for these big franchise racing games, chances are most people playing it are already adults because they have been playing a certain franchise for a very long time. And most people don't really have the time to grind for those cars. For me, I spent most of my time in NFS heat grinding that jump glitch to get enough for an engine swap and it's not fun. It's like you open the game to find sth different from grinding for life, and realized the game is just as grindy. Then I might as well just grind for life, maybe I can afford a used 911 after ten years of grinding. That is sth real.

as far as the hotwheels thing at the start goes, yes itt gets in the way at times but its rlly helpful bc camera perspective is meh at times and it affects steering which is easier to predict thx to it

Recommending the difficulty change outta nowhere is dogshit, I hate the racing AI enough already and highly skilled is where I get the lowest difficulty for the highest reward. Why would I want to punish myself and up that for nothing but a little bit more money and exp wich hold 0 value in FH5. You just had some AI body block you and 1st place is rubberbanding to narnia in a sprint race and doesn't let off for some reason or you just won the last race, go to the next one and BOOM, all of a sudden a text prompt pops up and you couldn't even read it because you tried to start the race. The game is boring and sometimes even frustrating with how little there is to do, except normal online lobbies that now have their own lvl system that also holds 0 value and vs the same cars all day, because why would you not tryhard? (no ranked btw, lmao) Anyone remember 5 races instead of 3? Lack of variety in tracks (nothing new added), always the same 3 tracks in each preset that always make the same cars better than other and the PI system of full of shit with how unbalanced these cars are. Not to mention stock engines being absolute dogshit and many cars that used to good in a PI class are no unsuable because they can't compete properly in any PI class. This is the first Forza game where I was left with nothing but regret after my rose tinted glasses fell off and I still want my money back. Piss stain of a racing game feels like an mmorpg that holds you hostage with nostalgia due to weekly resets...

Iam so glad you showed us/ me the FH1 that runs great on Xenia emulator. Its not as grand of game but it shows where this series started and I like playing it. I watched the Whitelight- video and altough Ive never played FH4 or 5 I dont think I will ever play them. The newer games look nice but arent as deep, have plenty of issues with gameplay, atmosphere, imersion, progression and so on.. And giving out prices with only wheelspins is just dumb, also driving/ crashing a supercar like a monster- stadium- truck without any damage is dumb too...

I think they could improve the Eliminator by having upgrades on all the cars, especially offroad/Rally parts & AWD. I’m sick and tired of getting something that’s supposed to be an “upgrade” to a dedicated offroad race car, and it’s just a 570hp rwd road car on road tires, or going from a WRC car to a Lamborghini that has the same power but can’t turn & handles like sh*t.

I do agree with the worst progression, I do agree with the statement that this game is almost a straight up copy, I too don't like the fact that, "Horizon Festival" vibes as a festival is missing, I also don't like the fact that, it feels less humanly now.... But uhh, knowing that fact, I do still play Forza Horizon 5 just because I want to drive or taking photo or anything (yeah, like my objective there is so different than when I'm playing 1 or 2), and TBH the game is do still looks good, still an awesome game, even just to drive, or if you want to feel the cruelty of players in multiplayer, but.... 10/10 is too much for this game Maybe if I review this game in this state, I'd give it 8.5/10, because multiplayer do still have problems, and not perfect, and it's kinda ironic, to think that multiplayer is kinda like the game's focus since 4

Forza Motorsport 3 and Forza Horizon 1 were the peak for me. If they remastered Horizon 1 and implemented tuning every other Horizon would’ve been exposed for a waste of time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@@tilburg8683 contrary to popular belief having walled off track layouts like Horizon 1 is actually better for the racing, the design of the tracks in the first game felt like they could pass for proper street circuits by comparison of following entries, nowadays track design is cluttered with lampposts, street furniture, and solid objects to stop you in your tracks / cause accidents. Also the checkpoint system is terrible game design for online racing, these are all reasons the first game was superior in every way and is why we find it more memorable, Horizons 2 - 5 all blend together and feel unremarkable by comparison. I have so many fond memories of Horizon 1, I can’t even identify the correct game my fond memories of the other Horizons originate from.

For me Horizon 1 was the best. The map, the progression and the atmosphere was the best by far. Plus the replay value is there where its absent in the later games. Ever since 3 they introduced cars that can only be unlocked through playlists. So if you want to start over again you will have no way to unlock those cars. That with the lack of progression just makes me not want to replay the game and once you beat it there's nothing to do. I beat FH5 in maybe a couple of weeks playing it after work for a couple hours per night. I beat the hot wheels DLC in about 2 days. Somewhere where all Horizons have sucked is customization and sense of speed. Need for speed blows horizon away in that respect.

one thig that annoys me about whitelight and his racing game reviews is, that he never talks about intrinsic motivations, especially in these new forza games. for example in fh5 it is your choice, your intrinsic motivation to play the game at whatever car class you want ("story mode", not festival playlist), i could pick a class d car and still participate in all race events or i could jump into x class right away, its up to you. same goes for the cars in these classes..... besides that decent review

There's nothing to do but time trials/rivals but those are dominated by meta cars. You have hundreds of cars that are useless and only a small handful of meta cars that are competitive. Online is a shit show with different seasons and race types requiring you to have a car for every specific race type, class and season. You're given so much at the start of the game that it's almost overwhelming because you will never drive all of the cars that you have and because of that there's zero motivation to do anything.

4:00 -wtf... it is about skills. It is good you can miss a checkpoint. Racing is not always about being the fastest one. You have to sometimes use the brakes to not miss a corner or a checkpoint.
